A loud humming noise seemed to fill the air around the twenty-one turn old man. With a quiet groan the man sat up, ran a hand through his short, messy hair, and looked around to see what was going on. He looked around, first at the golden firelizard that was slowly waving her neck back and forth was actually sitting nicely beside his little green who was mimicking the gold’s movements. Then it hit him, Chahaturth’s eggs were hatching. D’tri practically flew from his weyr down to the hatching sands where his topaz dragon had been keeping an ever vigilant watch over her eight eggs that were now hatching. Call them Chahaturth! Call them! D’tri practically screamed at his dragon to call the candidates at least. He didn’t want the eggs to actually hatch without the candidates being on the sands.
Come to the sands little humans! My eggs are hatching, and it is time to see if any of you are worthy of the title, Dragon Rider! Chahaturth bellowed her call into the moonlit sky. She wanted to make sure that all of the Weyr knew that the eggs were hatching, she wanted them all to be there when the greatest eggs ever laid since she herself had been an egg, were finally going to grace the world with the next generation. D’tri smiled as he watched the hard eggs rocking back and forth on the hot sands. He was panting for breath, and gratefully took his place on Chahaturth’s large front paw so that he may have a better front row view of the hatching. He wondered if S’bel and Aridani would be there to watch the hatching. He hoped they would be, he also hoped that none of the eggs would Between either.

Jessee just huffed a little bit as he placed his embroidery down and into the bottom of his items. He was busy trying to make his clothes look a tad better but it seemed it wasn't going to happen. He could now hear the call to the hatching, the stone seemed to reverberate beneath his hands. Carefully though he placed his rob up and over his head and tweaked it so it lay on his body right. He had to make one all on his own just because he was so tall and skinny, so it was a perfect fit.
His gaze turned towards Menek and Akesha who were starting to get a bit flustered and want to hurry and join him. "I am sorry you two but you must stay here, or outside of the hatching sands. No pets are allowed in and you are classified as pets by these imbeciles. Do not worry I will return to you with the most manly dragon of all times... or not. Really if I don't this time then next time or the time after I will alright? Otherwise we can go back home to the non nature infested stage." A little grin spread over his face before he took one last once over. His hair was nice and neat, along with his robes and sandals. He didn't have any weapons on him. Yep that was all, with quick yet silent feet he hurried to the clutch only to notice he was one of the first ones there with a frown. But he gave a bow towards the queen mother topaz before he turned his attention towards the eggs.
Linda was in her room for once as well, spending time with her fire lizards and huntyres without much of a care otherwise. Part of her wondered if she really should go to that one clutch, sure the egg she touched didn't scream at her but that... No She should be there, just incase there was a Garnet in one of them since she was a Healer. Quickly she made a check of her supplies just as she heard that the eggs were hatching.. So quickly she threw on her robes and ran out her door towards the sands. Her little herd followed behind her but she quickly gave a whistle and pointed towards the lake so they could just bathe or play if they wanted.
Now though she walked in and realized just how early she was... at least she wasn't late and people dying on the sands that was a good sign. A look of relief spread across her features before it turned into a little smile as she looked at the eggs. They did look splendid, and she couldn't wait to see just what would hatch out of them and who they would bond to. A quick bow towards Chahaturth though wasn't forgotten as she stayed in the back to really watch... She didn't feel like possibly causing problems by Dragonets seeing her and suddenly betweening....

Kyprioth had taken the offer seriously and set his tent up on the sands. Keeping in mind how angry the mother dragon could be he had kept his tent pressed as far away from the eggs as possible, tucked out of the way and near a wall. It has the added benefit of keeping him quite toasty warm and Banner loves it, though the near by scent of the dragoness tends to make the garnet hiss and grumble to himself about women and such and such and really Kyprioth doesn’t pay any attention to him anyway.
When the hum goes out he’s half naked, napping on his bed roll, hair mused and having some dream that’s best not remembered. Since he’s practically right on top of her the noise deafens him, his ears and mind ringing as he wiggles into his candidate robes and sandals practically tripping out of his tent. He still can’t hear a thing and he lifts a hand to rub at his ear, ineffectively, leaving him dazed as he wonders over to bow to the Queen who had been nice enough to let him camp so close to such glorious eggs. Even if Kayath was prettier.
Words were not his strong suit especially when his head felt like something was crawling around in it so all he manages it an awkward little half bow before he fidgets where he stands one hand going to his healing rib to keep it in place. For a moment silver-grey eyes lift to scan the stands to see if J’dol would be there yet but it was far too early for that and truly why did he care? Shaking himself he stared back at the egg eyes flickering to the one he had touched the last, the one that had actually seemed quite interested in him.
Kyprioth was turning a rather becoming shade of purple. The lad had forgotten to breathe.

Awake. He was suddenly, violently awake as doors slammed from around him and Candidates shuffled out of their rooms. What was this...? Tiredly, still not used to life in a Weyr, Varlind slowly stumbled from his bed and glanced out the door. People were moving and, after a few moments of shaking off the tiredness left over from his nap, Var realized what was going on. Right! He had to go to the Sands and do the thing with the dragons that the big dragon had told him to do!
A Hatching!
He quickly got changed, donning his hat before stumbling out his door and onto the Sands. At least he had remembered to get changed into the required clothing. Still, the hat was staying. He brushed long, blonde bangs from his face as he tried to ignore the slight limp to his leg and sauntered his way alongside a few other Candidates.
Following the indications of others, he bowed a little to the magnificent dragon sitting aside her clutch, and let his eyes drift over the eggs. His expression held a strange mix of eagerness and wariness. His uncle and the bronze had been a fantastic creature, hell they had named his little brother after the kingly dragon. So, really, being bonded for life would not be too bad for him – no doubt it would bring all the adventure he needed. But if he Impressed to a female (kh, how could that happen), or blimey... if he Impressed at all, it would take his life in a whole new direction. He bit down nervousness and looked around for his brother. If Kyp was late...
No, there he was. He moved swiflty towards the younger man, slapping him lightly on the back. "Turnin' odd colours there, Kyp... Y'calm?"

They knew it would be any day now, they knew and they waited, some more patiently than others. Firo had spent much of the day adjusting his robes; apparently he had grown quite a bit since the last hatching and had needed to remove the hem he had put in, unless he wanted the robe sitting way too high on his legs. He was happy with the adjustment now though, and had been in the process of trying it on one last time to make sure when the call came. Well well, seems the eggs had decided to be cooperative with him, how convenient. He grabbed up his sandals, ran a hand through his hair, and headed out to the hatching. Or at least, he would have if not for the curious mewls he could hear. With a couple quick words, he urged the curious kitten to stay behind and ran out the door. Hopefully it wouldn't follow him.
While he wasn't exactly a polite person in general, Firo did always give the dragons his respect, so upon arriving at the sands he dipped into a bow for Chahaturth. Then, with a smile, he moved to stand next to Linda, his eyes not leaving the eggs despite his attention being focused on her. He knew it would take some time for the first eggs to hatch anyways, so why not?
"If, for some godforsaken reason, non of these dragons are worthy of me then you should join me for a drink again." He spoke quietly, just under his breath so only she would hear, and of course the implication was rather obvious; he didn't think she'd impress this time around either.
J'dol was, of course, beyond excited for today. Why not?! Not only were there eggs hatching, which in itself was exciting, but he knew some candidates. He would have people to cheer on, that was ALWAYS exciting. Pulling on his nicer clothing (complete with a shirt this time around) he made sure he cut a dashing figure before running off to find a seat, Kayath following in the air.
As J'dol found a seat in the front row of the stands, where he would have a good view, Kayath found a nice large ledge and simply huffed at Chahaturth, her way of acknowledging her dislike without actually being rude. A hatching was a special occasion after all. J'dol wiggled with excitement, looking first for Ara, then down to the sands where he knew Kyprioth had been staying. Unable to contain his own excitement, J'dol jumped out of his seat as Kyp finally fumbled his way on the sands along with a few others he recognized.
"Kyp! KYYYYYYP! Breathe you fool or you'll miss the hatching!" he even went so far as to blow a kiss to the man, wondering if that would waken him from his overwhelmed stupor. Stand tall, Kyprioth, Mine and I wish you luck.

Bekran had barely fallen asleep when the call came that Chahaturth's clutch was hatching. He shot upright in bed, instantly wide awake, and clamored over to where his candidate robe hung. He was fairly certain his chances for Impressing this time were slim--unlike the other candidates, he hadn't had a chance to attend the Touching, and the dragonets in the eggs had not even met him prior to their hatching. It seemed unlikely any of them would be particularly drawn to him. Still, there was that slim chance he could be wrong, and anyway, his mother was no doubt expecting him to be there as well. He could hardly skip the hatching then.
Despite the fact that he had not been in Trelis for three or four turns, now, he found the hallways surprisingly familiar, and had little trouble finding the Hatching Sands. He walked out with the rest of the candidates, though he didn't really know any of them and so kept to himself nervously. (One or two he vaguely recognized, but there were so many new people and so many he had known who had left or disappeared from Trelis when he had...)
Standing on the sands, he got his first look at the eggs; a motley bunch they were, but kind of nice. Was that big one a bronze egg? The shell certainly seemed to suggest it...He shifted his feet nervously. He wasn't sure he actually wanted a bronze, but it was what was expected, wasn't it?

Koroniket had been sleeping when the humming began, of course. Who wouldn't be? Clearly someone who had to spend time in the morning to look good. Koroniket blinked blearily at the ceiling for a few seconds then, with a light groan, sat up, threw back the blankets, and got up. He better Impr- Wait no that was silly. Of course he would Impress, so of course getting up this early would be worth it. He covered a yawn and trudged over to his wardrobe, quickly donning the required white robe and shoving his feet into the sandals. He paused briefly at the door - was he meant to wear anything under the white robe...? eh, they probably would have told him if he was - and then headed out.
He yawned once more between his room and the sands, but then stopped. None of that nonsense in front of the eggs! Another yawn tried to escape and he forced himself to keep his mouth closed, uncomfortable as it was. He gave the presiding topaz a small bow, remembering how she had seemed not to like him last time. "You look amazing for one as frazzled as you clearly are." It was a compliment, right? He thought so.
He walked over to the other males. He considered saying something, some sort of greeting, but...well, you weren't meant to speak on the Sands, were you? And any advice he may have given (breathe, for example) wasn't worth risking a dragon's chance to be ridden by him.

It wasn’t long after the majority of the candidates had arrived that the first egg started to crack. It was the largest egg of the clutch, and its mother was more than pleased that he would be the first one to grace the sands. The large Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg now had spider web cracks all over its solid bronze shell. Then, everything went still within the egg. Chahaturth crooned encouragingly to the hatchling inside of the bronze shell, letting it know that she would make sure that it was safe for him to emerge. About a minute after hearing his mother’s voice, a bronze muzzle could be seen poking out of the large shell. Soon after the rest of the bronze’s head could be seen. After a little bit of growling and scratching the bronze male was finally free from his prison.
Chahaturth crooned happily, proud that she had sired such a handsome young bronze, now if only Maerath would show himself, that would make things so much better. D’tri clapped and cheered as the first egg hatched, over joyed at the fact that it was a healthy looking bronze. He is wonderful Chahaturth, I wonder which candidate he will chose. The young topaz mother paid her rider no heed as she watched her wonderful bronze son examine the candidates that were laid out before him. There were so many to choose from, but he already knew which one was for him, he just wasn’t ready yet. He was needed there on the sands to help guide his siblings on the proper path to their riders. He knew that his own rider would do just fine without him for a little while longer.

Bekran was taken by surprise when the very egg he had been studying so closely a moment before proved to be the very first one to hatch. And a bronze as well, at that! He grinned to himself. Bronzes hatching first was traditionally good luck for a Weyr; perhaps his coming back here wasn't such a bad thing after all...
He didn't exactly hide behind the other candidates, but he didn't do much to draw the attention of the bronze or other hatchlings either. He had been told by some of his relatives and foster family (though not so much Iskra) that he was likely to Impress highly, being the son of a bronzerider and goldrider. Bekran however, wasn't so sure...He certainly wouldn't mind the bronze who was even now on the sands, but the mutation colors were so much more interesting...

Surprising a yelp out of him he turns to grin wolfishly at his brother, shaking his head at his comment. At least though he takes a deep breath and before he can say anything to him-turns to see who was calling his name. A flush escapes him as he see’s J’dol and much to his own surprise and probably the riders he lifts his hand to bravely blow a kiss back turning red once again as he turns his attention to the eggs.
“Breathin now.” He manages to croak out to Var, giving him a wink out of the corner of his eye before all his attention is taken on the eggs. Ah, the first to hatch was the one that had been the nicest to him, though he’s still certain he was making up all feelings and going quite insane. But still the point is the dragon had hatched, and into what everyone had expected it to hatch into. A bronze.
His gaze is cursory as he scans the bronze hatchling enjoying the glow of his skin and how handsome he is. He does nothing more though. He’s never fancied himself a king rider before and he’s sure there is some young man, or rare woman out here on the sands for that fellow and plus he was waiting so surely his bonded was needed for something else at the moment .
Either way, being the fellow he is he gives a little wave to the bronze, grins and waits as he rocks on his toes for the other egglets to hatch, precariously perched on the balls of his feet easy to push over.

Ara bit her lip in anticipation as the first dragonet hatched, the bronze most definitely a good omen. Avirith's humm echoed that of the dragons around them, the green curled higher up on a ledge. "Do you think it will impress to another girl J'dol?" Her voice was the first thing to announce her arrival, her hand reaching out to touch her weyrmate's shoulder while her other held Jarali. "Want to hold her?" She loosened her grip so that the topazrider could take his daughter.
---
In the stands a figure in a dark robe moved from the shadows, her blue, silver eyes narrowed at the sight of her once home. This was so different, so wrong. She was here to change things, she had formed the plan with Kytrie as soon as they realized Eiko had her own ideas. No, they had coaxed a rider to bring Inali and Inoria back with a few candidates from Rindell that had been left after the Amethyst hatching, and they had hidden them in with the other candidates and among the stands. If they were asked, they had been searched by Trelis riders, no one was to know they were rebels. Inali let out a bored sigh as she looked down on the sands, the pang of Loraketh's memory biting deep into her heart. Beside the dragonless woman Inoria was bouncing up and down, excited to be around her home again. In fact, she wanted to see Talian. Surely her sister would love to see her and hear all of her stories. Slipping past her mother while Inali wasn't watching her daughter, the younger twin went in search of her other half.
---
Rikula settled against the edge of the wall, Majorrith watching silently from the ledge above her rider, crpoking and humming along with the other dragons. This was a good thing! A King had hatched!

Who was that, calling out to his brother? Var’s pale eyes narrowed over at the man who seemed to be a little too friendly with his brother. By the time J’dol blew him a kiss, Var’s eyes were slits and he was glaring vehemently at the man. Who did this guy think he was, anyway?!
Thankfully, though, his brother began to breathe again and Varlind flashed Kyprioth a relieved glance. Good, suffocating would hardly be the way to go during a Hatching. He watched the blush spread across the younger man’s cheeks with curiosity, was it embarrassment or was he enjoying the attention? Surely not that, what had Dad told them, after all! He opened his mouth to speak, to perhaps reprimand his brother, when the sound of cracking hit the air and Var’s amber-grey eyes were flashed in the direction of the egg as it rocked.
When, finally a bronze nose poked itself out, and the hatchling emerged fully he felt his pulse speed up a little. He had never seen them hatch before and there was something.. magical about it. An animal-lover, he had watched many horses, goats, cows and so on give birth but this... these were no ordinary ‘animals’ and so there was something unique and fantastical about the bronze as he broke free of his egg. Amazing.
Varlind stared, wrapt, as the dragon inspected them all, intelligence glittering in his eyes. Bronze.. just like his uncle’s own Kyprioth for which his brother had been named. He wondered what would be next.

Koroniket had still been wondering whether or not to speak to the other Candidates - who were surely hoping he would, the poor helpless babes - but his attention was firmly dragged away by the sound of an egg cracking. For all his mental advice to Kyprioth to breathe, Koroniket found himself tempted not to. The long seconds which passed between the egg's cracking and the bronze nose finally poking out seemed like torture, and the candidate let out a huge breath when the dragon appeared. Bronze. Perfect. This one was clearly his.
It seemed, though, that the bronze was not in the mood to Impress yet. Well that was fine. He clearly had to shepherd the lesser dragons to their bondeds. Ko could understand - it was a task he was faced with every day. Best to sit back and watch, though. Just wait until the bronze was ready for him. He looked around. It was rather unfortunate that there were no seats provided, where he could get off his feet while his dragon tended to its siblings. He could go into Kyprioth's tent and steal the cot he surely had...? No, it all felt rather silly, and anyway it was surely a good moral boost for the others to have him standing here with them. He'd heard Standing could be a somewhat nervewracking experience and he assumed that was true for all these others whose lifemates hadn't hatched right away.
He wondered if his dragon needed any help...? Though if he did, Ko supposed the bronze would have Impressed so he could ask for the help directly. Koroniket simply crossed his arms over his chest and waited.

J'dol blinked in surprise, staring at Kyprioth for a moment before dropping back down into his seat with a rather dumbfounded look on his face. Had Kyp just... in front of everyone? Well what do you know, he managed to stump you. Kayath had a rather proud sound to her voice. She had certainly found a good one, yes she had. Cheeky fellow, isn't he. He replied, amused at the blown kiss. kayath was quick to point on an angry look thrown in his direction and, because J'dol never failed to please, he blew a kiss at Varlind as well. Neither could dwell on the rather surprising actions of the man or the curiously angry candidate though, for the first egg had hatched!
A bronze! A good omen for a hatching, and what a good-looking specimen too! Excited more than ever, J'dol watched with rapt attention; who here would be the next to join the ranks of the kings? Kayath herself crooned down at the hatchling, before sending her thoughts to Chahaturth. I suppose I can't deny that you have done well, SisterWench. The Weyrlord, for that was still his title even if his senior status had been (thankfully) taken from him, grinned at Ara.
"The last one caused enough of an uproar to last a lifetime." He smiled down at Jarali too, but did not reach out to take her. "I'm on the edge of my seat here! What if I accidentally launch her into the sands for some hungry dragonet to eat! No... I think she's safer with you right now."
Firogel's eyes widened and his heartbeat quickened. This wasn't his first hatching, but it was no less exciting than the first. He held his breath as cracks spread across the shell of the large bronze coloured egg, the one that surely must be his and, lo and behold, a stunning bronze dragonet made its way out. Part of Firo wanted to run to the bronze and look him in the eye and tell him he didn't need to look any longer because his perfect partner was there. However, the trained part of him knew it was wrong to interfere with the hatchlings; wrong and dangerous.
He shifted, eyeing the bronze almost hungrily, when a blurry shape caught his attention from the corner of his eye. Was that.. no shard it all! Caesar, his silvery three month old feline, was waltzing onto the sands like he owned the place! What did he do now, break rank to rescue his kitten, or hope the sharding thing had the intelligence to stay away from the dragons.

Linda gave a slight scowl as she just stood there, suddenly Firo was there beside her and spoke to her before the eggs started to hatch. His words were like a dagger too, aimed straight for her back.. but no she wasn't going to let them him. A little grin spread across her face as she just whispered back towards him. "Ha yeah right, same goes for you when I impress though you know you pathetic weakling." Linda just commented back as her eyes turned towards the eggs... A bronze hatched from the largest egg and she just couldn't help but smile as it waited. He reminded her of her oldest brother, what a cute little thing. But her attention didn't stick on him too long before she turned her attention to the rest of the eggs.
Jessee just stood there all important as he watched HIS bronze hatch, it was a bronze indeed and he would come to see now just how great he was.... Wait he wasn't impressing on anyone here? Was it that hard of a choice that he might just vanish? A light frown crossed his lips before he just gave a little shrug... If he went to throw a hissy fit just because he ignored the candidates in front of him then fine but Jessee merely looked at the other eggs now. Sure one of them held a dragon worthy enough for him? After all he couldn't really see himself impressing in a gold's clutch, might be a bit tooo feminine after all. Now a topaz wasn't that girly from what he could see.... So maybe have some nice male dragon sons.
