Zexx was generally a well-behaved canine, which was fortunate, with Aristide relying on him to be his eyes. He was, however, still a pup, if a nearly full-grown one, and his exuberance sometimes got out of hand, such as it was right now. The blind man and canine were walking through the Gather, early enough that it was still mostly deserted, though not entirely, and the canine was rushing just a bit faster than Aristide could keep up with, even with the hold he had on Zexx's collar.
"Woah, Zexx! Stop," Aristide commanded in a firm voice, hoping the canine would calm down enough to listen to him. He gave a hiss in pain--his young obsidian fire lizard Regal was perched on his shoulder and had dug her claws in as they all were jolted by Zexx.
Zexx barked excitedly, and Aristide could feel his tail strike against his legs as it wagged, but he didn't stop. He did slow a bit, but that was not enough to keep human and canine from barreling into someone, and Zexx gave a snarling yelp in surprise as Aristide finally sprawled onto the ground. "Zexx..." He growled, fumbling for the canine's collar with his free hand.
"I'm sorry about him," he added to whoever it was he and Zexx had crashed into. "I'm still working with him, and it looks like he could use some more training..."

It had taken a lot of time to reach a decision about how to deal with Gray. She had always been a timid canine, especially around people, and now that he was forced to stay in the Weyr her nervous behavior was becoming a bit of a hindrance. So it was, after much contemplation, Korvin had decided to bring her out into the Gather.
It was proving to be more annoying than anything, but at least her quiet whines and nervous behaviors were helping to keep a small bubble of free space around him. Reaching down to scratch at her ears, Korvin's attention was mainly on the table before him. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he had seen all the delicious foods available. If there was one positive thing to say about the Weyr; it never let its people go hungry.
He reached out to grab a skewer of meat, taking a bite of it before putting it on his plate, pleased with the flavor, He was just reaching out to grab another when Gray gave a whimper-like warning growl mere moments before someone came tumbling into him, sending himself and his delicious plate of food flying.
"Wha' in shardin' - " He growled looking back at whatever idiot had stumbled into him. Some idiot and a mutt of some sort. Oh look, the man was trying to explain himself too! Did Korvin look like he gave a damn why he had been shoved over? "Leave it to you Weyrfolk to 'ave, poorly trained mutts." Gray whined again, gulping down a chunk of the dropped meat before warily sniffing at Zexx.

Linda.... in the wrong place at the wrong time definitely. She was next to the table of food as she tried to choose what she wanted... and what her Fire Lizards would want as well. Only a screech of warning erupted from Hana as she took flight off of the young girl, while the rest of her fair out sunning themselves took off as well to come help. Instantly Linda brought up her arm to try to block whatever it was coming at her... only to feel warm moist meat hit her arm, slide around it, and smack into her shirt and face.... only to slide down her clothes to plop on the ground to be eaten up by one of the pups of the people.
Linda frowned though when suddenly all 6 of her fair erupted into the air above her squawking a little bit. A sharp whistle though and image to go along with it instantly shut them up... Hana landing on her human's shoulder with swiftly whirling upset eyes. Linda however was not concentrating on the settling fire lizards of hers, all of which were watching with keen eyes for anything else to start up. ".... Not to sound rude but I think both of you have things you need to work on... you to train your... animal more... and you to not toss your food willy nilly and be more on guard against anything that happens around you..." She managed to calmly speak out as she tried to stay calm and focused. She needed to stay this way so her fair wouldn't get into trouble or cause things to get worse.

Only after the collision did Aristide recognize the whines and growls he'd heard earlier was the sound of another canine. Unfortunately, it was too late to save himself from the fall. He groaned, reaching again for Zexx's neck and finally finding the pup's collar as he climbed back to his feet. The black and tan canine was still wagging his tail as he sniffed curiously at this new canine, heedless of the chaos he'd caused.
Aristide cursed under his breath and tightened his hold on the canine's collar. "Zexx, sit!" Zexx obeyed, if somewhat reluctantly, and though he eyed the food on the ground hungrily, he didn't try to eat it. Beyond that, he was ignored, as more attention devoted to him then would only encourage him.
Aristide, meanwhile, glared angrily and vaguely in the direction the voice had come from. He was about to open his mouth and inform the man that, in fact, training was exactly what he was trying to do at the moment, when a sharp, ear-piercing whistle cut through the air. He hissed in equal parts pain and surprise at the sound.
Apparently, Zexx's mischief extended further than he had first thought, though he wasn't sure exactly what this new person was complaining about. Now he was being lectured by a woman as well, and Aristide sighed in annoyance.
"Yes, well, as I was about to say," Aristide began in a dry voice. "I was in fact, trying to train my canine pup when he got overexcited. I do apologize for running into you," This he directed towards where he assumed the man still was, "But there's no need to keep saying he needs training. I am, shocking as it may seem, aware of that."

He winced at the sudden screeches of fire lizards, though the whistle didn't bother him in the least. Shards he hated the little snakes and without thinking he was shying away from the girl that had apparently been hit by his plate. He hated the things more with each day, especially since his run in with the mute brat of Inali's who had insisted on having her pets invade his mind. he growled though, knowing she was at least right about one thing; he had dropped his guard too much.
"Comin' from th'brat covered in meat, I can't say yer opinion mat'ers much." He snapped back, picking himself off the ground and dusting himself off, giving Gray a light nudge to get away from the pup who had started this all. On the bright side, at the least the pup did seem to have SOME training, even if it was rather pathetic all in all.
"One would normally keep their mutts away from a Gath'r like this until its ready fer it," Korvin grumbled back, eyeing the pup with disdain. Nothing upset him more than seeing a canine in the hands of an unworthy trainer, and no one seemed more unworthy than Trelis' folk. Gray backed away from the pup a bit, cocking her head to the side in curiousity, but obeying her owner's silent command to stay beside him. Despite her shy attitude, she was otherwise well trained.

Linda frowned as she started to get rather, angry with the two boys and their canines in front of her. She never really met those types of animals before and didn't really know what they were called but right now she didn't care. Wasn't really their fault or not, no it was always the humans fault who didn't do things well enough or have any bloody common sense. Hana started to hiss while she snuck in through Linda's hair on her shoulder and Rorce, her garnet, even landed on the other one as he got ready to sick himself upon the two. He was eager for a chance to rip off someones face but Linda just gave a rather pensive look at them both and at the rest who were perched nearby who echoed their gold and humans feelings softly.
"At least I was able to raise my arm up to try to stop it rather then unable to even react to it human... Besides I've been covered in less unpleasant things while fighting wild felines this isn't too bad." But her attention turned towards the other guy, and she just frowned even more... he wasn't acting like a normal person and his grip on the animal was even more weird even though it wasn't trained. There might be a good reason for having it but she wasn't one to deal with it right now. "Yes I actually agree, taking an untrained animal to a place with a lot going on isn't the best.... But as for training I would suggest for something so excitable to wear it out with some kind of activity a bit so not as riled up before training with rewarding for good behavior." At least that would help keep wherever this person goes and lives from ruining things even more. More for her own benefit too if he is at the hold and she has to deal with him running into and possibly harming others and making more work for the healers.

Zexx whined eagerly, but didn't move. He would have liked to have gone over to the female canine, but the very first commands he'd been taught were sit, stay, and come, and Aristide still had a death grip on his collar. More complex lessons were perhaps still beyond him after all.
Arisitide couldn't help bristling at the man's tone, and soon Regal regained her perch on his shoulder. Sensing her owner's mood, the obsidian hatchling hissed at the other humans, mantling her wings. Despite her much smaller size, she soon turned her attention to the other fire lizards, giving them a warning shriek as she wrapped her tail protectively around her human's neck. Feeling a little petty, Aristide didn't bother to restrain her.
"Hard to train him to deal with crowds unless he's exposed to them," he drawled. "I even tried to come out early to avoid the worst of it. I'm not entirely new to this; I have raised a canine before." Granted his father had helped him with Aleksi, but he was older and more experienced now. "Besides, I kind of have to take opportunities to train him when I can; he's got a lot more to learn than most."
The sooner Zexx completed his training as a guide dog, the better. Since the Gather was located in the Weyrbowl, which Aristide knew quite well normally, he had neglected to use a staff or any other instrument that would help him navigate, deciding to rely on memory, Zexx, and his other senses to avoid people. This little incident just showed how important a guide was, even under ideal circumstances.

"Oh wow, y'know wha' species I am! I'm beyond impressed," He snorted sarcastically, wondering just was wrong with these crazy weyrfolk! He couldn't for the life of him understand why she was gloating about being covered in mess; normally that wasn't a good thing. Of course, she had done a pathetic job of showing Korvin her intelligence, so he didn't doubt she a little psychotic and 'not all there'.
He jumped back at the shrieks and hisses from the other man's winged snake thing. Shards how he hated the noisy buggers. He did his best to ignore the flits and instead turned his attention on the pup, nodding in approval at how well trained it actually seemed to be; it was a lot younger than Korvin had thought at first glance, and to be able to remain sitting in the presense of another canine.. well, loathe as he was to admit it, he was impressed.
"Looks like he's doin' good now." He admitted quietly, paying no mind to the woman now. "He's got potential, I'll give ya that. Been workin on 'im long?" He had been raised alongside canines; his own mother being quite skilled at breeding and training them, so Korvin had a hard time staying mad where a pup was involved. He eyed his own canine who, little by little, was inching closer to the man, her curiosity overcoming her nervousness. She pressed her nose against Aristide's leg.

Hana and Rorce started to hiss warningly as they shuffled a bit on Linda's shoulder... However they did not launch themselves nor did the rest of her fair as she just turned to look at Korvin with an emotionless look on her face... one raised eyebrow before she spoke up. "Obviously your smarts are worse then an inbred Wherrie if you think that was the meaning. Humans are all the same, lowly creatures who can't think straight worth to save their lives. Frankly I will be surprised if you don't get yourself killed within the next few turns since you obviously don't know well enough any survival skills. The fact that you can stand at all and produce sounds from your mouth is probably the best that your capable of doing. You obviously have no talents or skills, even your supposed knowledge for training animals coming from another who probably had to beat it into you. I feel sorry for you."
With that however Linda turned to Zexx and Aristide as she looked down at him critically. She was glad she was able to push all her emotions inside of herself and turn it to stone when she spoke earlier so she tried to keep a firm grip on it for now for Hana and Rorce, along with the rest had a limit she could hold them to. "Well good luck with your training, if you need a healer however I am good at broken bones and open wounds of sorts. Though there are others around I am sure, take care." She was done trying to be social, it had already eaten up all her patience and frankly she didn't want to get into a fight with that rude one... have a rider intervene... then kill them and be hated by Dragons anyways. She gave a whistle which caused a flurry of wings to set to the air as she walked away, her little fair following her as they glowered back at the two with hissed warnings.

The two other people seemed almost more preoccupied with each other now than with him, which Aristide didn't exactly mind, except it made it a bit difficult to be sure when he was expected to reply. He began wondering how to extract himself from the growing argument; neither he or Zexx needed this. He couldn't help snorting incredulously at the woman's words though. Honestly, it was like she didn't even realize she was a human as well...
He scowled at her words. "I can take care of myself, thanks." He was about to add, 'I'm blind, not stupid,' but then thought better of it. She was already walking away, by the sound of it, though that didn't stop Regal from returning hiss for hiss the noise of the other flits.
He only belatedly remembered the question about Zexx he'd been asked earlier, and he was opening his mouth again to reply when he was caught off guard. A canine's cold, wet nose pressed into his leg without warning--he hadn't heard her approaching, so was startled by the sudden contact. He gave a little yelp as he jumped backward, and them berated himself for no doubt looking like an idiot. "He's only six months old, so not that long, I guess," he said, attempting to ignore what just happened.

A look of absolute confusion crossed Korvin's features as the crazy girl rambled on. it was almost as if she didn't consider herself a human... by her explanation she was just as stupid and worthless as the rest of them. Sure, Korvin hated people, and tried to avoid large groups of people whenever possible.. but they were still his kind, as much as he hated that fact sometimes.
That said, as far as people went, this girl had to be the most unobservant one he had ever laid eyes on. He was beginning to think she was just spewing off the first things that came to mind in the hopes she'd be right at something. With a roll of his eyes, he turned from her, only too happy to see her walking off.
"Seriously... are all wom'n this crazy, or is it jus' Trelis?" He asked aloud, though he didn't expect an answer. He turned back to Aristide as Gray moved closer, and let out a sharp bark of laughter as he yelped. "Y'ain't very observant, are ya?" He asked, not at all realizing that the man was blind, despite how proud he could be about his own observational skills. He gave a tap of his leg, a signal for Gray to return to his side, which she promptly did. Wow.. the pup wasn't very old at all. "Six months and already sit'in like that? Y'got a good pup there. Y'better train him right."

Aristide was annoyed with himself when he began to flush red at Korvin's reaction. His sightless eyes blinked in surprise as he realized that he hadn't yet caught on to the fact that Aristide was blind, though. That was funny, considering the man's earlier complaining. Still feeling a bit perturbed at Zexx's antics and the trouble it had led to, he decided to see how long it would take Korvin to figure it out on his own. "Not...exactly, no," he said carefully.
As well-trained as Zexx was, he was still young enough to be lacking in patience, and right now it was wearing thin. He would periodically strain against the hold Aristide had on his collar as he tried to sniff the other canine, or the remnants of dropped food on the ground, or whatever else caught his interest, before settling back down again at Aristide's insistence.
"Umm, thanks," he replied to Korvin's compliment. He'd always been somewhat withdrawn and socially inept, so he wasn't entirely sure how to respond. He sighed down at Zexx. "Still got a lot of work to do, though," he said with a roll of his eyes.

Korvin was surprised the man would admit to being to being unobservant. His experiences with Weyrfolk so far was that they didn't like admitting to their shortcomings. He gave the man a funny look, but otherwise didn't think to deeply on in, kneeling down and soundlessly motioning for Zexx to come to him, curious about the pup.
"Darn straight y'gotta long way to go." He scoffed, clearly believing that had been common knowledge. Sure, the pup looked like he was on the right track, but there was still plently of places he was lacking. "What's his purpose? Huntin' dog? Tracker? Guard?"

Zexx was torn. Clearly the man wanted him to go over to him, but he had been told stay put; plus, Aristide was still clutching his collar. He whined anxiously in a flurry of indecision as Aristide just shook his head. He wasn't sure what Zexx's problem was, but he wasn't surprised he was getting restless. Still, that was something he'd have to get used to.
Aristide hid an amused smile as he answered, a little surprised at the question. "Actually, he's in training as my guide dog; to be my eyes, basically. It used to be his mother's job, but she died at a bad time; I've had to make do in the meantime," he said. He didn't resent his blindness, but it was occasionally annoying.

Korvin nodded in mild approval as the pup didn't move. Sure, he was whining, but he stayed put and that was an excellent sign of the dog's training. Korvin's first pup had been a lot older before it began showing the same level of obedience. He stopped motioning to Zexx, letting his hand move to Gray's chin instead and scratching the female softly.
"Guide dog?" Korvin had never heard of such a thing; his social interactions had been limited to his family and shoppers at Gathers. Never before had he met a blind person; he knew they existed, but he simply figured they stayed hidden away, being taken care of by soft-hearted family members or friends. The very idea that a blind man was training a dog to be his eyes... that was something that Korvin didn't think was possible. "Y'can do that?" Suddenly this man had gained some respect in the hunter's eyes.
