Tesla was bored. She had no chores to do, her work was done for the day, and there were still around three candlemarks until dinner time, and she was left with nothing to do. She didn't really have any friends to talk to at the Weyr--a few acquaintances, sure, but not friends--and she found interacting with people intimidating usually anyhow. It seemed like a good time to take a walk away from Trelis for a while.
Oh, she'd heard the announcement that they were supposed to remain close to the Weyr until the clutch hatched, of course, the same as everyone else. Tesla wasn't overly worried about it, though. It wasn't like she was a candidate, after all, and while she'd like to watch the Hatching, she could afford to miss it. Anyway, from what her sister Iskra had told her about dragon Hatchings, it wasn't due to start quite this soon, anyway. They hadn't even had a Touching event, yet.
Serkan was perched on her right shoulder as she walked. It was his usual perch, and since he'd already been fed, he was calmer than normal, fortunately. The garnet kept a tail twined around her arm and stared at the forest around them. Tesla couldn't blame him. She had met with nobody else since she'd left the Weyr, but she still got the occasional feeling like she was being watched. She was sure it would have been twice as creepy at night.
She was getting tired, though--the distance she had come was not that far by runnerbeast or dragonback, but on foot it was a sizable distance. She wasn't the most fit person, either, used to the closed quarters of a Hold, and though she figured she could use the exercise, the Harper decided to sit down for a moment to rest. A round boulder beside the path made a good seat, and Tesla stroked her garnet fire lizard's head and enjoyed the alone time.
