There was the sound of thrashing and loud splashing by the normally quiet river. "Raise your head Abyrath! That's it! Kick your legs! You got it!" Ka'mond cheered, completely soaked and dripping. Laughing, the tanned boy peeled off his tunic, finding no reason to keep the soggy leather on. He had rolled up his pants to the knees, but that only helps if you stay knee deep in water. He was waist deep and didn't seem to notice. All that mattered was helping and training Abyrath, helping his tiny dragon grow strong and skilled.
Abyrath snorted water from her nostrils. These bags make it hard to move KaMine. I feel like a Runnerbeast.
The amethyst lifted her head, craning her neck to aviod the splashes that flew at her face. Her tail lashed wildly in an attempt to be or act as a fifth limp.
Ka'mond grinned, wiping water from his forehead, and ruffling his white-blonde hair. "You are doing amazing! Just wait! We'll be stronger and faster than the other weyrlings before long! No one will doubt us! Can't you see the way this will change how people see us? And even if it doesn't, we still have each other."
Abyrath trumpeted a noise of approval, kicking and fighting the current with new energy. They would be better. Train harder, worker longer. Anything to prove themselves!
Someone's coming Mine. I sense them.
Abyrath slowed her swimming, looking around. Who else would be here now?

Let's go swimming today Mine.
Ara looked up, not quite certain why the comment was so foreign to her. Avirith liked swimming and flying, anything that showed off her "dancing" as the Green called it. Besides, Alyara had no reason to be staying in the Weyr. The eggs hadn't even touched the sands yet, though Kayath and no doubt Izanycorth too, were becoming increasingly egg heavy. She had even taken to staying in her own weyr some nights so that J'dol could be left to comfort his Topaz. It had been one of those nights, and she still was tired. I sleep better when I'm with him. It was a curious thought, one broken off by her Green again.
Pleeease? Come on AraMine, I want to swim! Aries can even come, I'm not that picky right now. The rider laughed as her Gold was mentioned, the firelizard chirping. Of course she could come! Was that lowly Green so stupid as to think she could be stopped? "Easy Aries." Petting the orangey, gold hide, Ara let the flit climb up onto her arm and shoulder. She did a small twirl in the above the knee-length dress, admiring herself in the looking glass before leaving her weyr. When was the last time she had gone out and just enjoyed the day? Too long, that's when. Sighing, she climbed onto the Green's neck and let her choose where they were going.
It wasn't long before they landed again, Ara holding on as Avirith slipped into the water and let herself swim downriver, the rider laying on her back. You're right, I needed this love. Oh look, people! Jostled by the dragoness' sudden movement, the greenrider fell off her bonded's back with a startled plop into the river. Hey there! Nice to meet you little one, I'm.....wait...where's Mine? Aries simply snorted and landed on the bank, waiting for Hers to come to the surface again.

ka'mond turned around, and waved, his cheeks warm from the sun and from perhaps- being shirtless in front of a lady. Not that he would be of any interest to Ara, but still. He certainly must look like the country boy he was. "Hello!" He cried, glancing at Abyrath, who was growing quite agitated as she couldn't really swim correctly with the weight on her legs.
Oh! Hi! Hi! Nice day for a swim? You could join us, I'm sure KaMine wouldn't mind.
With a snort, Abyrath plunged her head into the water and began removing the annoying bags from her feet. How clumsy they made her! She was graceful, beautiful. Not jerky and heavy.
She surfaced again, triumphently holding the bags in her little jaws. She was pleased at her own success. Abyrath now waded to Hers, and nosed him. We should all play together! It'll be fun!
Abyrath's tail twitched and swayed with excitment. She hardly ever interacted with other dragons. Being so tiny and a mutation made her quite avoidable to most.
"I guess we could try..." Ka'mond looked to where the greenrider had gone under, and he crept closer. "E-Excuse me?" He shifted awkwardly. Should he grab Ara? He didn't want to touch or 'save' someone above him, as he tended to mess up things like that. She was several turns older than him anyway. Surely she was fine?
Abyrath seemed unphased by Hers's unsureity. And she turned to the green. I'm Abyrath! That's Ka'mond. Being an amethyst, she was absolutely carefree, and excited over everything.
Then a little chirp was heard, and the little Topaz flit appeared by Abyrath's head. Star landed on Abyrath's forehead, settling between her head knobs possesively. Abyrath was Star's 'momma' in a way. Both dragon and flit fussed over each other. The topaz was as much Abyrath's pet as it was Ka'mond's.

She was next to her! Hissing in a flurry of wing beats, Aries flapped away, her eyes whirling orange. A Sub-Queen was next to her and she wasn't giving her the proper attention! The Gold howled, unhappy that the respect she "deserved" wasn't being dished out, her owner all but forgotten. Thankfully, Avirith was quick to find Alyara and pulled her from the water, though the young woman was already almost to the surface. Sputtering, she shook her head sending water droplets in all directions.
"Well now, that's one way to wake up." Grinning, the greenrider waded to the shore with some steady help from her dragoness before plopping onto the bank and sprawling her arms and legs to the four corners. So, who are these two? They're weyrlings I know, but which ones Avirith? She says they are Abyrath and Ka'mond, from Talath's clutch. Oooh, we taught your mother little one, how nice! I am Avirith and this is AraMine! The greenrider brought herself up to a sitting position, looking upward at the weyrling and dragonet.
"As she said, that's Avirith, I'm Alyara. Most people just shorten it to Ara though thanks to her. That trouble maker over there is Aries." The Gold chirped, darting forward to curl around Hers and shower her with tiny licks before hissing again at the Sub-Queen. Make her see me, she seemed to be saying in her messages of feelings and images. Laughing, Ara held her mentally from doing anything too rash. "So, what brings you two out? Training I presume, you know for a smaller dragonet it's better to work on her speed and grace than her stamina or strength. Those will come, teach her to what she was though. I had to learn that with Avirith."
The Green spread out her slightly longer than proportioned, and falcon-thin, angled wings. They were translucent almost in the light of Rukbat, shining through to see the veins that webbed across the darker membrane and contrasting with her paler hide. Why be strong when you can be deadly in beauty and grace?

Star let out a startled chirp, and twittered a series of questions at the Queen. Then suddenly she took offence and hissed, fanning her wings to appear larger. Although she was just a mere 7 inch flit baby. Abyrath crooned at the little topaz, sending calming thoughts to Star.
How fun! Come swim Ara. The waters nice.
Ka'mond grinned watching the dragon and rider.
"Nice to meet you Avirith and Ara."
His hand rested on Abyrath's nose and his dragon puffed back his wet hair. Their strong bond was clear, visable in their eyes-actions. They were close. Very close.
Abyrath's tail and rump wiggled playfully and she pushed Ka'mond backwards into the deeper water. And she snorted as he flailed and splashed and scowled and smiled.
I like it when you do that. It is funny how clumsy you can be.
"Oh behave Aby. We aren't alone."
Ka'mond had surfaced and was smiling. He couldn't stay angry at his dragon.

Fun sounds...fun! "Avi...no....no.....oh Faranth!" The Green had been steadily inching closer to the rider before finally she turned on her heels and ran toward the bank, diving into the river a moment before Avirith's nose shot out to push her in. Shocked by the sudden disapearance of her rider, and her target, the Green warbled and had to stretch out her wings to keep her balance from tipping over. Which, was quite an amusing sight since she was twenty feet long and off balance.
The dragoness took a few wobbly steps before flopping into the deeper part of the river not far off, warbling happily as she splashed water in her rider's direction via her tail. Yes, they are clumsy compared to us. Come with me Little One. You fly, no? She raised her wings, taking off from her place and hovering mid-air for the dragonet. Careful Avirith, she's young, don't hurt her or tire her out. The Green snorted, and if she could have, she would have rolled her eyes.
Naturally she knew not to harm the little amethyst, she wasn't a dimglow. Her wings tucked in and then fanned out as she beat against the air, going higher before curving a path downward again, going back and forth in lazy arcs and spirals. "Has she started to hunt for herself yet? Most of them do around the time they start flying without their riders."

Yes,yes! I come too!
Abyrath clumsily waded forward beating her wings hard without much progress. She was heavy with water and couldn't get much of a foothold. Snorting she visibly strained harder, spraying large amounts of water onto Ka'mond and well.. everywhere. Finally she got lift and thrust into the water leaving choppy waters in her wake.
Unaware of the mess she'd made Abyrath trumpeted her success and joined Avirith. She was determined to prove herself to the older dragon. Show her training and her skill.
Not catching her breath the amethyst swooped and dove then would wheel suddenly but gracefully to the side. She'd spiral or roll or maybe twist then loop. Either way she was a flurry of complicated flight pattern. She danced around Avirith, quick and lithe and small. She had only recently reached her full length of 13 feet and didn't seem to mind. She might be the smallest dragon on Pern!
Ka'mond spit water and shook it from his hair. Star chirped angrily at Abyrath for leaving and settled on a branch. She eyed the other queen warily and maybe jealously.
"She's caught her own wherry and had plenty of chances to hunt for herself. But she gets distracted and loses her meal sometimes." He laughed and waded closer to Ara.

It pleased her to see the Amethyst fly so well, but despite the grace she tried to place Avirith could only chortle at some of her maneuvers. Well done, but a bit sloppy on your turns my dear. Tuck in your wings more, feel almost like they are not there and then spread them at the last moment. Not only does it help the turn but it looks nice as well.
She demonstrated, diving low and suddenly snapping her wings open to loop back up and corkscrew around the purple dragonet. In the river Alyara smiled up at her bonded and nodded her head as she finally looked back over to Ka'mond. "That was Avirith as well. She will get better though. And how are you in your studies? Doing well I'd expect if you work so long after hours." She laughed softly as Aries flopped into the river, swimming around Hers.

Abyrath looked upset at first when the green dragon corrected her flight. But being so easily distracted she soon forgot this problem. The new trick excited the little purple dragon and she soon was diving and snapping her wings like Avirith. She sang a short cry of triumph as she looped and swooped and flew with new energy. Oh! How the breeze whistled past her wings and slid around her hide! Her wings seemed to slice the air with ease.
Look at me KaMine! I can dance so pretty! Pretty! Look!
Ka'mond craned his neck and tilted his head to glimpse his bonded twisting and spiraling above him. A smile crossed his face and he looked lost in a daze as he watched. It was a moment before he realized Ara had asked him a question..
"Huh? Oh.. Yeah. I work as hard as I can to be able to train more. I don't really spend time making friends... All I need is Abyrath really.." His cheeks grew warm and he felt silly. Was it wrong to spend this much time training? Would Ara care? Ka'mond watched Star daintily step into the water and scold the stray droplets that splashed her face. How dare the water spit at her! She hissed and fanned her wings as she climbed onto Ka'mond's head.
