Name Keenan
Pronunciation kee-nan
Age 17
Season Born in Fall
Gender Male
Sexuality Interesting question. Keenan identifies as asexual demibiromantic - completely uninterested in sex, but he'd enter a purely romantic relationship with either gender, given that he was already emotionally close to that person. Which would be difficult, given his personality.
Appearance: Keenan's a little bit attractive. He'd really prefer not to be. It's annoying when people try to talk to him. Anyways, he's of average height, around 5'11". He's got curly brown hair that would anyone a hard time. Keenan tried to tame it (once) and got nowhere in the ten minutes that it held his attention, so essentially, whatever it looks like when he gets out of bed it what it stays like for the rest of the day. If he absolutely must look nice, it gets brushed. Underneath the thick shock of hair, Keenan's got mud-brown eyes and a face that is apparently not ugly, although he wouldn't be able to tell for himself.
Forgetting to do normal-people things is something Keenan has down to an art, or so it seems. He's underweight by more than a few pounds. When something interests him, he doesn't sleep and doesn't eat. After a particularly long "things that are interesting" phase, he gets shadows under his eyes that look more like bruises than anything. A little scary, at that point. Keenan likes it.
Personality: Keenan is a piece of work. His personality is basically divided into traits that almost universally piss people off, and traits that only sometimes piss people off.
Perhaps the most obvious trait Keenan has is his apathy. He doesn't care about much, and has never cared about much. It's not a malicious thing, it's just that caring doesn't fix anything. This makes him come across as arrogant. Which he is. He hates it when people are wrong, and damn it, he'll correct you if you are. Once you've gotten past the obvious attitude problems, Keenan gets a little more bearable. If you're quiet, he will be too. Keenan hates brainless chatter and will not participate in small talk, no matter how awkward the silence is without it.
But Keenan, for reasons that escape even him, is not universally disliked. There are some people who don't hate him. Maybe it's because he is insatiably curious and, if he wasn't so lazy, he would try to apprentice in every craft. If you've got something to teach him, he will listen until he's absorbed all the information he can and probably respect you more than most people. The problem with this is that he's already learned most of what he can, and thus, it's unlikely that you can impress him with obscure knowledge. He's probably got some sort of attention deficit disorder and forgets things like no one he can remember meeting.
And thus, I leave you with five words that summarize Keenan perfectly: Social norms? What social norms?
Family (if any)
- N'lier, father, bluerider
- Kelwara, mother, healer

Rank Dragon Candidate
History Keenan was born as the result of a lost Flight on his father's part. It was the beginning of a romance between his parents, but it didn't last too long. About a year after his birth, his parents split up, leaving Keenan in the care of his busy mother.
He grew up with a hoard of other children, but he never really associated with them, preferring to sit in the records room and try to read the faded texts. He taught himself to read at an early age, but didn't speak particularly well until he was five. Around that time, his mother got pregnant again and decided that she wasn't going to leave her children alone for any longer. She quit part of her job, keeping a few hours a week to occupy some of her time, but for the most part, she dedicated herself to teaching Keenan basic reading, writing, and arithmetic.
To her surprise, Keenan already knew everything she tried in the first few weeks. Ever adaptable, Kelwara started on the more complicated concepts, trying to establish a bond with her child. Keenan listened intently for weeks on end, seeing as how Kelwara was having a difficult pregnancy and was confined to bed for most of the time. He was an avid student, much preferring the company of his mother to other children his age.
After his younger sister was born, Kelwara just didn't have enough time to keep teaching Keenan. The boy ventured off into the Weyr, hanging around whatever apprentice lesson he could reasonably sneak in to, and as such acquired quite the vault of information. However, his urge to learn had some consequences. He never really learned to socialize and became the kid no one really liked by the time he was twelve.
Having spent some time auditing many of the different crafts that were available to him, Keenan wasn't really interested in anything. Apprenticing in one thing just seemed too boring. Instead, for years, Keenan hung around the back of classrooms until he was practically an expected presence.
That lasted until his mother figured out that Keenan wasn't being exactly truthful with her when he said that he was apprenticing. That was a few months ago. Keenan took a few hours to figure out what would allow him to continue his lifestyle basically in peace, and came up with Candidacy.
Seemed easy enough. All he had to do was show up at a Hatching, right? He wasn't expecting actually doing work. The lessons were okay, but he has to do chores, which are really wearing him thin.

Name after Impressing- K'nan
Color Preference- I don't care.
Character Preference- He also doesn't care.
Non-preferred- See above
Cross-Impressing- That would be cool.
Mutations- Totally cool.
Mauling- Mild/moderate is fine. Severe scarring/death is not.
Preferred/Non-Preferred Personality traits- Either super outgoing or matching Keenan's personality. But honestly, both of those are suggestions and I don't mind if you think of something different.
