The first thing anyone would notice about S'bel would be his very intense gaze. Bright, navy blue eyes stare out from beneath low eyebrows, giving him the appearance of always being intent and concentrated, even angry on occasion. What makes his eyes so piercing is his blond hair. His light eyes seem to offset his light hair, which lends an off-looking, albiet intense appearance. Kept short, S'bel likes to keep his hair out of his eyes, and rarely lets it get long. He also tends to stay clean-shaven.
Standing at six feet even, the bronze rider cuts a powerful figure. His body is muscular, rather than just toned, from years of working with dragons and other beasts.
Square-jawed, S'bel looks semi-intimidating by his gaze and figure alone. Scars dot his body as well, giving him a dangerous look that is nothing like how he really is. From an accident years ago, the rider has a permanent limp, though is still one hundred percent able to perform his duties. While not the handsomest of men, S'bel does look fairly nice, and is in good shape for a man of his age.
Personality
S'bel keeps his emotions tucked away in a neat corner of his very organized mind. All business, he doesn't emotions get in his way. Though not overly friendly, the man makes an effort to get to know everyone he can, and makes it his personal business to know all of his Wing fairly, if not extrordinarily well. Now that Thread has begun to fall, S'bel is already prepared with plans and new aerial maneuvers and is enthusiastic about teaching them to the members of his Wing.
Almost overly organized, the man prefers to follow some sort of schedule, so people generally know where he is at any given time. His duty is what's most important to him, and he wants to be ready in a heartbeat should the need ever arise for him to perform.
In addition to being ready to serve, S'bel is polite, even to those of a lower rank than him. He is always willing to pass along a compliment, or a kind word. To him, it takes nothing to be polite, but it takes a lot of efford to be mean.
As benefits his rank, the man is decisive. He never dilly-dallies over decisions, but instead chooses almost immediately which course of action to take. This isn't to say he doesn't think before he acts, because he does... briefly.
All in all, S'bel is rather personable. He gets along well with just about everyone, though he may seem a bit distant, since duty is his first line of business. He's friendly, and likes to make friends, but "fun" isn't in his schedule. Good-natured, he can slide into just about any niche and fit in well, without too much trouble. Generally, he's the typical reliable, duty-bound Wingleader who keeps pretty much to himself.

History
S’bet never liked the thought of his dragon choosing who he must love. Every flight that his dragon chased, he left the woman (or man) the very next day. Sleeping around just wasn't his thing. He wanted a woman he could love, and he found his love in the strangest of places-- a kitchen drudge named Sashta.
Through their mutual love, they birthed a son, and named him in Weyr fashion, fashioning his name from his fathers. And so the child was named Sabatt, and was raised by two loving parents. Sabatt was always into everything, and was always seen running around, climbing trees, and generally causing trouble. By the time he was five, and his baby brother came around, he had already broken two bones and gotten a concussion.
S’bet and Sashta loved their elder son, but their newborn, Sebell, was quiet and didn't cause any trouble at all. While Sabatt loved running and competition, Sebell was more than happy to sit at his father's feet and help oil his blue dragon, Harpeth. Sabatt was more fascinated with getting in trouble than with dragons, but Sebell loved his father's blue from the moment he laid eyes on him.
When Sabatt was ten, and Sebell five, S’bet took his younger son dragonback, letting him enjoy the sights above the Weyr. Sabatt had ridden previously, and showed no interest in it. The ground was better, where he could explore and discover things. Sebell, however, loved it. Every day he was at his father's knees, begging him to take him "a'dag'n'ack!" And so Sebell grew up learning about dragons and helping his mother in the kitchen while Sabatt explored the tunnels of the Weyr, breaking bones the whole way along. Since Sebell was too young to Impress just yet, S’bet managed to produce a fire lizard egg for his son. Sebell was ecstatic and raised the flitt with a kind hand. He was seven turns when the egg hatched into a brown flitter.
When he turned ten, and Sabatt was fifteen, both boys stood for a Gold hatching in the Weyr. Sabatt was reluctant. He didn't want a dragon, he liked Whers better, and even then he didn't like them all that much. The beasts were just too... beastly for him. He liked runners just fine, but dragons and whers were too much work. Sebell, however, stood anxiously, watching as eggs cracked and split open all around him. A large egg spilled a brown, and many of the boys darted forward, but Sebell stood still, mesmerized.
The brown took its first shaky steps in the direction of Sebell, who began to panic. He didn't know anything about high ranked dragons! He didn't want to be a future Wingleader or anything! He just wanted a fighting dragon so he could battle thread! As the brown turned swirling eyes on Sebell, suddenly a dark blur knocked into the dragonet! A bronze was taking on a brown, digging his claws into the lower ranked dragon's hide, spilling ichor over the sands. S’bel, Mine! MAERATH WILL PROTECT!
Those words were the beginning of a give and take relationship. S’bel would give, and Maerath would take. The pair, however, worked well together, even if Maerath was as fierce and as violent as any Queen dragon. He simply didn't like anyone except his, and didn't want anyone to bother him. S’bel and Maerath both took a long time to heal, but after they did, Weyrling training passed in a blur, and then suddenly, they were Wingriders.
The bond between father and son deepened, and the two of them went flying together many times, just to get away from Weyr politics and other such flippantry that didn't concern them. At those times, S’bel was ever grateful that Maerath fought against the brown for him. He loved every scarred, irritable inch of his bronze, and wouldn't exchange him for the world.
A few turns passed, and when Maerath was ten, S’bel twenty, a green rose in flight, and the bronze chased, and won. The woman, Gwenn, was the first woman he had ever lain with, and they stayed together as Weyrmates for a good long time. Again, a few turns passed peacefully until Gwenn found out that S’bel had sired a child. The pair were ecstatic, but when the birth came, Gwenn died from loss of blood, and S’bel was left with a broken heart and a child he had no idea what to do with. In the end, he swore off women, vowing only to ever love another man to save himself the heartache.
For the first five turns of his son's life, S’bel played both mother and father, inspiring his love of cooking and knitting. His son was just like his older brother, however. Not interested in dragons. By this time, S’bel was thirty, and his age was beginning to show. His mother decided it would be best for S’bel to take some time off, but the man stayed another four turns, making sure his son grew up well and kind. Selior was not interested in dragons, but he was interested in Whers. S’bel, realizing that if his son Impressed, his job as a father would be over, put in a request to transfer to Trelis-- somewhere new and exciting --where he could settle down (hopefully).
And Impress Selior did! Standing on the sands, knife clutched in a shaky hand, the ten year old watched as Wher after Wher chose their Bonded. Thinking he wouldn't Impress, the boy closed his eyes, only to have a little brown Wher nudge him gently. Selisk like. Feed Selisk?[/color] The boy, shaking from joy, cut the palm of his hand and let Balisk drink in his blood, droplets sprinkling onto the sands.
S’bel knew his job was over. Hugging his son one last time, he entrusted his care to his mother and the Wherling master and then blinked between to his new home.
At Trelis, he had a run in with a former student of his, Alyara of green Avirith. She had fallen in love with him when she was his student when he was Weyrlingmaster, but he never encouraged it. For awhile they were kind of an item, but she eventually left him for her own student, J'dol, and S'bel moved on to Iirla, the Junior Weyrwoman, but he has no idea where that's going.
When the Rebellion broke out, S'bel sided with Trelis. He had no quarrel with the "mutations" that were becoming so common, and he knew Trelis would need him to perform his duty as Wingleader not only when Thread fell, but then the Rebels attacked, especially when Inali and Loraketh went between, leaving Iirla and Izanycorth in charge.

Appearance
Average sized for a bronze, Maerath, from nose-tip to the very tip of his tail, measures an impressive thirty-eight feet long. Shorter, however, he makes a very stocky dragon. Thick muscle is corded around his body, easily showing off his strength and prowess.
A darker shade of amber, with less orange and more brown, the bronze's hide is always glowing from being oiled or freshly washed. After all, a good appearance is everything. Being stocky, the large dragon looks a bit awkward in general both on the ground and in the air. He does, however, still retain the majesty of the bronze King dragon.
Personality
Maerath is ambitious and competitive, which make for a very action driven bronze. In flights, he will become fiercely passionate and push himself farther than his body may allow, simply to win.
Ambitious, the bronze wants to come out on top, no matter what it takes. Driven by his rider's passion for duty, Maerath strives to be the best he can be as far as flying and training against thread goes. His vanity plays in to his ambition, as he also wants to be the biggest, toughest, shiniest, sleekest bronze in the entire Weyr.
Despite these qualities, the bronze is also patient and reassuring to those around him, and has the cool, calm quality of a true leader. The dragon prefers to show rather than tell, and leads by example. If a dragon in the Wing is falling behind, he will take it upon himself to encourage the other, and lead them to be the best that they can be.
Though bonded tighty to S'bel, Maerath is incredibly independant, and likes to learn by trial and error. The bonded rarely make mistakes together any more, simply because one of them will have already made that mistake previously, and the pair don't like to have failures, especially Maerath.

Appearance:
This small female is one of the smallest of the bunch, but she makes up for that with her strange coloring. She is a bright silver in color, with orchid purple markings that look like the cracks in glass. She has a strange tendency to shiver as though she was cold, even if she's nice and cozy warm. That shaking makes her hide look like shivering glass that is ready to shatter at any second.
Personality:
She is a very gentle female who is as sweet as honey. She is also very calm, and relaxed, especially around young ones. She has a knack for making others smile, and laugh. That gives her great joy, especially when the one she has made happy is Hers. She is also a very relaxing presence to be around. This small female is surprisingly good at defusing tense situations, and stopping any fighting that might take place around her. She is just so innocent that some would say she is incorruptible, which might be true.
