The Island, as the people of Trelis Weyr and its holds call it, has been on Pern a very long time. It wasn't somehow man-made, and it wasn't something that just suddenly rose out of the ocean during an earthquake. Some geologists believe that it stemmed from Ista, others that it is from Southern. Either way, it is Tropical in climate, and full of diverse wild life found no where else on the planet. Split in half by a mountain range that holds Trelis Weyr and Trelis Wherhold at its center, The Island also is divided by a river for which the Weyr got its name. There are two holds on The Island, Sollace and Apolla. The former is home to the more manual forms of crafts such as farming and fishing, while the later is where the more artistic forms are found like healing and all types of harpers.

Rindell Island

Rindell Island was once part of the Southern Continent, a small Village type hold named Rindell using the area as their home. When a tidal wave hit the Continent about thirty turns ago however, the Village found themselves an Island off the coast of the Continent. Deciding to name the island after their lost Hold, the people rebuilt. There was one mountain at the center, more of a concentrated center of hills and caverns than anything else, but the villagers didn't think much of it. At least, they didn't until The Obsidian Rebellion came looking for a new place to call home. Joining with the rebels, the Rindell villagers helped to create buildings outside and inside the caverns that they now call their home base.
