{Note: Nightsingers was the last clutch to hatch on the original Trelis board (Gold Loraketh X Brown Sithorath).}
It was already turning out to be a stressful morning, and the sun had only just risen above the horizon. Grumbling to himself as he took a big gulp of klah, J'degar looked over the gathered papers once more, making sure he had memorized the names of all the weyrlings in his class. Today would be an important day for them... important, and dangerous. Today was the day the nightsingers class would be learning to between.
He groaned, rubbing his temples and wishing he could have added fellis to his drink, but he couldn't take the chance today. He needed to be fully aware if he was to lead others between. Shard it though... they really should have gotten someone else to do it just this once. He glanced at Syphraelth, a silent question. I will be fine, Gar. Our time in the air simply must be kept short. Stretching, J'degar finally rose and mounted up on the brown, giving his injured wing a quick glance before giving him the signal to head down to the training grounds.
Come, Nightsingers. It is time for an important lesson. Come prepared for cold-weather flying. It was the closest they would get to a real hint about the true contents of the lesson. J'degar dismounted while they waited for the weyrlings to arrive, giving each one a once over to make sure they hadn't forgotten to bring their full riding gear. Any who weren't properly dressed were sent back to try again. Soon, those who would attend were there and J'degar felt he could start the lesson in earnest.
"Incase you ingrates haven't figured it out yet. Today's lesson will be betweening. I don't want any fooling around, showing off, or any time of idiocy today. I can't strain enough that messing up today WILL cost you your life." He gave each weyrling a cold stare, wanting to make sure they understood the dangers of the lesson. Syphraelth took a calmer approach as he spoke to the dragonets. Mine speaks the truth. Today's lesson is dangerous, but if you follow the instructions carefully you will be fine. The brown said calmly. J'degar gave his dragon the image to send around to the weyrlings.
"Syphraelth is giving you a preliminary view of our first location now. See it. Memorize it. Be comfortable with it." He spoke loudly, ensuring his voice was easily heard by everyone. "Mount up, wait for my signal to launch and stay in formation. Syphraelth will give you the image again once we are airborne. Do NOT use your own image. I don't want any mishaps on this first jump. No matter what happens. Keep the image in your mind and you will come back out."
He gave the signal and Syphraelth launched into the air, giving the image of the star stones once again before J'degar gave the signal for the first jump. The cold of between struck him as always and he worried once more about the brown's injury, but they came out again above the star stones and the brown was quick to land; his wing already sore from the short flight. Now he simply had to wait for the weyrlings to reappear.
