Name:At'kal
Pronunciation: Ateekal
Age:22
Season Born In: Spring
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Standing 5'4, Atikal is slender, yet stocky, broad shouldered and short legged. His auburn hair is short. His facial features are sharp and chiseled, and his blue eyes are expressive and intense when he is focused. He has a habit of drawing his brows together so that he looks thoughtful or perhaps disapproving, though this look may or may not reflect his actual state of mind. It just seems to be his natural expression. He is handsome; with his shirt off, he has a six pack. His body is chiseled to perfection. His intense dark blue eyes seem to attract the opposite gender and his body too. Although he isn't tall, everything works just as good.
Atikal's garb is blue shorts with a very thin layered blue tunic and sandals. When riding he wears long black trousers, black tunic and dark brown boots. He also wears a leather arm brace, 6 inches long. It covers his right arm to cover a nasty knife scar.
Personality: Atikal is the sort of man who can lead without ever uttering a word. This is a good thing since he is not flashy. He is quiet and thoughtful. He walks with authority and confidence. It just seems to make people unconsciously take note of his presence, even if they never give it another thought. He is an excellent bronzerider with good tactical knowledge and Threadfighting skill, though he rarely raises his voice any louder than he has to communicate. Yelling and screaming isn't his cup of tea. If he gets angry, he'll take them off to the side or privately and point out their faults and see what they can do to improve. His favorite motto, "There's always room to improve." He is a "3-strikes you're out" kind of man.
Socially, he is only moderately inept. Atikal is friendly enough and considers it polite to at least nod hello to someone he walks past. He isn't a loner. He enjoys being with people and having a good conversation, but he isn't one for wild antics or telling jokes. Complicated people, particularly those with contrary natures or bad tempers, just annoy him. After all, why make things difficult? He is always polite to the ladies. He can't tolerate anyone abusing a woman, physically or mentally. If he finds anyone near a woman, abusing her....he sees red. Need I say more?
Although, he may have a difficult time admitting it he is a bit of a romantic. Ladies, you better watch out for this one!! He does like to romance the ladies; bringing them flowers, candies, jewelry and like. He is a gentleman in every way; letting the ladies go first, opening doors for them and so on.
Family:
Father: Finet - Master Seacrafter
Mother: Opli - Journeyman Vinter
Sister: Tavi - Unknown
Location: Finet, Opli and Tavi are still in Southern Boll Hold. At'kal and Corth are holdless at the moment.
Rank:Wingrider
Wing/Pack: N/A
History: Atikal was a sturdy boy from Southern Boll Hold. His mother was a Journeyman Vinter. His father was a Master Seacrafter. His mother turned away from his father and started seeing other men. Atikal was 5 Turns. When his father heard about this, he was enraged. He abused his mother, physically and mentally. As young as Atikal was, he didn't understand what was going on. At age 7, the Harpers came to teach the boy how to read and write. Of course, figure numbers as well. They told about the dragons and Candidacy. One day, without his father's knowledge, he decided to go visit his mother at the Winery. The reaction of the Master Vinter was not good. He sent the boy home. When she got home and told his father what happened about his son coming to visit her, he started on his boy...verbally abusing him, cutting his self-esteem down almost to nil. His mother had left his father and went elsewhere.
By age 12, Atikal was disgusted with his father. He knew not to defy his word but he got another woman pregnant since he said he could do anything he wanted in the North because of his gender. The product of the woman and his father's love affair was his baby sister, Tavi. Jealousy eventually set in and he went to take up a craft; Apprentice Seacrafter like his father, in which his father trained him. He had know idea what would occur next Turn. Atikal stayed away from home as much as he could, because of his jealousy and every time he looked at Tavi he was reminded of how she was conceived. After he worked, he played with his friends until just before sundown then he headed home. After he got there, the woman cooed over the new baby. His father was even in the room, much less talked to her. Pretty soon, he treated her like he treated his mother, a punching bag. Come dinner time, he was called by his mother to eat. Being an obedient son he was, he obeyed and ate silently without a word. Atikal didn't know this woman so he gave a polite nod, sat down and began to eat.
At age 13, he was Searched by Fort Weyr. A blue dragon by the name of Hotherth of Rider K'inle did the deed. His father saw the dragon land at his house and knew they were there for their son. His mother was at her class when the blue landed. His father wiped off his hands free of soil and went up the bluerider. K'inle explained to the boy's father that his dragon sensed a potential candidate from Atikal and wished to take him back for a chance to Impress. His father called Atikal over and he told his son what the dragonrider wanted. Atikal's eyes lit up like Turn's End! His father gave him his blessing and the blue took At'kal back to Ista in the blink of an eye.
Once there, he was directed to speak with the Candidate Master or an Assistant Candidate Master. He got assigned to a cot. His life wasn't all that different, except maybe he didn't have the craft anymore or run ins with his baby sister. Now, he was a Candidate for a chance to Impress. Big deal! He didn't want a dragon at first. That was before he came to Ista. He watched the dragonrider drills. Much different than what he had expected to see which wasn't a bad thing. Ista was organized and with flaws here and there but no one is perfect. After he saw them, he was awed on how the dragons moved and was curious to learn more about them. That came in time...all in due time.
At age 14, he was lucky enough to Impress a Bronze. When His hatched he said, 'I'm here! Now where is Mine?' The large, well muscled baby bronze pranced around while looked around at the boy Candidates as if to say, 'Look how pretty I am!'. He sniffed around and found Atikal. He growled at and stalked him even a little hiss came out. 'I am Corth.' came his voice low and menacing. 'You.....are.........' he pounced on his chest, knocking him over, '.......MINE, At'kal!' in a commanding voice then switched to a sweet, pretty voice. 'Now, will you feed me?' Corth made a chortle sound as if laughing. It was very unusual for a dragon to sound like that, usually they just rumble when they are amused. At'kal shrugged and laughed along.
Eighteen months later, both Corth and At'kal graduated from Weyrlinghood to Dragonrider. At 17, he got in a knife fight with another lower rank. As a result, the lower rank backed down. At'kal was victorious with a nasty 7" slice on his right forearm. He went to the healer and got his arm taken care of. He had to have stitches. It hurt but it wasn't bad when they put numbweed on it. They put a bandage on his arm. Two weeks later, he has the bandage taken off. At'kal was so busy he had forgotten about his father and wanting to confront him.
At age 20, there was a Goldflight. Corth took chase and another Bronze took chase among 2 others. Soon, the other two dropped out with only Corth and this other Bronze. The Gold was about to choose Corth but the other Bronze, smaller than him by a tail length, scratched at his left eye to get a competitive edge. Needless to say, the other Bronze won the flight instead of Corth. He reeled in pain and plummeted from the sky. A brown dragon saw him and quickly flew to his aid. He slowed the Bronze's fall by getting underneath and helping him down to the ground safely. At'kal raced to Corth's side, sick with worry. Several Apprentice Healers and At'kal helped the dragon to the Infirmary.
Once there, a Healer came to At'kal and Corth. The Healer had a grudge towards the Bronzerider. The healer was a Candidate with At'kal and he impressed Corth instead of him. Additionally, the healer thought it was the Bronze's fault that the dragon didn't choose him. This healer looked at Corth's eye and made a quick fix just to get rid of the Bronzer. At'kal was upset that the healer just put ointment in his dragon's eye and the Bronzer explained to him what had happened.
The healer didn't want to hear it and shooed the pair away. At'kal tried again for him to look at his eye more closely and if he didn't he could go blind in his left eye. The healer acted like he didn't care and told them both to go away. It was obvious that his Bronze needed more than just ointment. The healer handed him the ointment and shooed them out of the Infirmary. At'kal tried again for him to treat his dragon. He refused. He threatened to tell the Masterhealer but even that didn't fly. He saw the Masterhealer, instead and got his dragon treated. The Masterhealer told him that the slash in the eye nearly blinded his dragon and that there was really nothing they could do to fix it.
At'kal was sad that his dragon could barely see with his left eye. He understood and thanked him. Corth took the news hard but he always was in good spirits and strong. At'kal was sure Corth could deal with this, but he wasn't so sure he could. Having a Bronze dragon that could hardly see dampened their time at Ista. Corth didn't go to wingdrills anymore, he didn't do mating flights anymore, he hardly did anything but excerise to keep in shape. It came time for At'kal and Corth to leave the Weyr. The Weyrwoman offered a transfer to Trelis Weyr and they accepted. Afterall, what else could they do? Corth felt he didn't belong and so did At'kal. A dragon escort took them to the outskirts of their Territory and then they were on their own. At'kal thanked the dragonrider. The dragonrider bid them good luck and farewell.
Dragon/Wher
Name: Corth
Pronunciation: Core-th
Age:8
Type: Dragon
Rank: Bronze
Size: 40 ft
Color Codes:CC6633
Appearance: Corth is a handsome dark coppery bronze with blue-green flakes on his neck and tail. His color is similar to a tarnished, ancient statue that has been buried for centuries. He has a scar on his left eye due to a Goldflight.
Personality: Corth has fallen into depression. He talks to no one but his rider now. He is tense but the dragon's nobility appears to show through after all he has been through. He appears to be impatient, emotionless and spiteful. He is actually sweet, compassionate and very kind once you get through his defenses. He loves children and will do anything to protect family. Jokes are beyond him. Corth has a stubborn streak which gets him into trouble at times.
Corth is more intelligent than most. Even when you don't think he is paying attention, he is. He has learned to become very observant and watches everything and everyone. That can get unnerving for some. He doesn't mean any harm, just that he has trust issues with everyone. As matter of fact, his rider has a tendency to be more trusting than Corth.
