What in Faranth's name are Specials?

SPECIAL COLORS

Essentially, special colors, or just specials, are colors that the original site had but have been "discontinued" on this site. You still see them around however for a couple of reasons. The first is that they have been transferred from the old site. The second reason is that they were given as a prize. The third, and last, reason is that they were hatched out. Though, this is incredibly rare, similar to how Sub-Queens or Queens are rare, and is even more so for the higher ranks.

Many wonder just what these specials are like, and especially where they have been found before. The below information explains just that.

THE GIRLS


Sapphire


Appearance
Sapphires are somewhat incandescent just like Ametrines are, but where the other Sub-Queen has proven to be a mixture of purple and copper hues, Sapphires are true to their namesake. They often are dark blue colors swirled with lighter turquoise and teal. It seems that they also tend to have silver markings.

Personality
Sapphire are much more humble and gentle than their Ametrine counterparts generally are, and many have been compared to Obsidians in personality. However, where Obsidians can be cold and impersonal, Sapphires are always the caretakers of the Fair, Weyr or Wherhold. A Sapphire is incredibly empathic to those around her, and some are said to even be capable of calming their subjects.

Sapphires first began appearing at Trelis during the Fall Gather.

Clutching
Sapphires mature at about 15 months. They rise about once a Turn, and clutch anywhere from 4-10 eggs.

Ametrine

Appearance
Ametrines are split in color, they vary from shades of purple, to pink, to gold. Usually, the hide is iridescent instead of metallic, and they slightly patchy with color. Smaller than their Gold sisters, Ametrines are the more lithe and thin of the two. They often have a pride in the way they hold themselves. Though, depending on their personality that can vary greatly. Their wings are long and thin like a Green's, instead of being broader like a Gold's.

Personality
Ametrines are as split in personality as they are in color. They are either one of two extremes. Very happy and sweet, often times humble as well. Or, they will be defiant and reckless creatures. Both are slightly vain, though that too shows differently. They are loyal to Theirs, however the more defiant ones only show loyalty to this person. The more humble Ametrines, will be loyal to their entire fair, especially the Gold Queens.

Other
Ametrines first began appearing at Trelis during the Spring Gather after the mutations colors began to hatch.

Clutching
Ametrines mature at about 15 months. They rise about once a Turn, and clutch anywhere from 4-10 eggs.

Appearance
Rubies are easily seen anywhere. The most unnatural color of the wher community, Ruby's range anywhere from a soft pink, to a deep garnet red color. Their hides are not metallic being fighters, but they do seem to have a shine to them. Proportionally, Rubies are petite little things generally. They have shorter legs and tails with smaller, more compact torsos, yet larger wings. Somehow though, they manage to look graceful and are quite acrobatic.

Personality
Like Citrines, Rubies are jokers. They want to make others laugh, smile and love to be the center of attention simply because it makes others feel good. Some can be vain, but mainly they are gentle souls that are also great mothers despite being fighters. They do however have a problem with memory, even more so than a green and are quick to forget things. Because of this, their handlers tend to have to remind them of what to do multiple times, but they're almost always willing to work.

Other
Rubies have only been seen as Whers so far and were first seen in the clutch with citrines.

Clutching
Rubies mature around 12 months of age and mate every one to three turns. Unlike other females, Rubies are special in that they have a very high fertility rate. They clutch 1-4 eggs

Lazuli[/font][/size][/color]


Appearance
Lazuli flits are delicate and feminine in their appearance. A mixture of silver, blue, green and purple, they can either look like water and a stormy night, or a sunrise. They are the smallest female, and second smallest firelizard in Pern. As such, they are great speed fliers, and are known to zip around everywhere they go.

Personality
Lazulis are the sweet, motherly ones out of all the colors. They always feel responsible for others, and hate to have someone upset. If they see someone who is crying for instance, they will do everything they can think of to make them smile. They are often times the jesters in the fair because of this, and help to be a scape-goat in tense situations. Lazulis also are very empathetic and love to snuggle with Theirs.

Other
Started being seen around the time that Ametrines and Epidotes were. Have been seen recently in Dragons as well.

Clutching
They mature around 12 months. They clutch 2 eggs, only one is viable usually though.

THE BOYS



Appearance
Jades have quite a bit of bulk to their bodies, though they do not quite measure up to the sheer muscular structure of the larger bronzes. They are in between Garnets and Bronzes in size, though they are slimmer and more streamlined than both. Their hides lack the normal metallic sheen of kings, instead, they have a marbled appearance that seems to glow like stone. Their hides are a bit strange, in that they come in any base shade of green, with markings in any shade of red.

Personality
Jades are Kings, and boy do they know it. Much like their Topaz sisters, Jades stereotypically are vain creatures; however, they have a strong sense of duty, even if they don't always like it. They like to consider themselves to be the knights of the Weyr. They are often chivalrous creatures that like to care for any and all females. Jades can often be big-headed and socialites as well.

Other
Trelis' first Jade appeared in Loraketh's last clutch along with the first Blacklight. Only has been seen as a dragon so far.

Epidote

Appearance
Like the other new colors, Epidotes are a mix. This mix ranges between, slate grays, greens, browns and blacks. Often they look muddied or rugged because of this. They will many times have markings as well that are more intricate than the other colors'. They are smaller than Browns, but larger than most Blues, and are about in between with their proportions as well.

Personality
Epidotes are smart, they get bored easily, and they often like to collect things. In short, they are the inquisitive, curious, magpies of the Weyr. If their owner doesn't keep them occupied, most Epidotes will get into anything they can see. Most are anything but aggressive, instead showing an either sweet, or passive disposition.

Other
Have only been seen as firelizards so far. They have been around for as long as the mutation colors have been seen.

Appearance
Like white dragons, Opals have a predominantly white hide; however, unlike whites, opals are larger and often have very distinguished markings in dark or bright colors. The white of their hide may have a slight tint of color, but most of their distinguishing appearance comes from the markings, which may consist of one or more colors.

Personality:
Stereotypically, Opals encompass the sweet and gentle side of blue dragons. These boys take pride in their friendly natures. It is extraordinarily rare to find a mean Opal, and even rarer to see one that acts on that mean temperament. Opals tend to see the good in everything. They aren’t always too bright, but they are very curious.

Opals first began appearing in the Istan clutch with dragons, they have been seen occasionally in whers however.

Appearance
From a distance, a Citrine might appear as a Gold if it weren't for a few simple differences. For starters, their hides, despite ranging from a buttery yellow to a burnished orange, yellow, have no metallic hue being fighters. The second, is that there hide always has gray markings whether it is just on their wings, or if they are more intricate. Besides this, Citrines are male through and through. They are bulky like blues, but tend to have longer proportions that make them great at running and jumping.

Personality
Citrines love to show off for others, but it's not because they are vain. They want to make others laugh, and like their Ruby counterparts, they often are seen as jokers in the Wher Holds. The little males often try to do things that are too hard or big for them as well, and can have quite the ego, not unlike a young child wanting to show how well they can do something. They are not the smartest wher in the bunch though, and tend to get distracted easily.

Seen in the combined clutch of three Greens at Trelis Wherhold. Only seen in whers so far.

Appearance
Blacklights/Whitelights range in size, usually being similar in size to their twin. Their hides are strange things. A Blacklight's hide are always a dark, dark grey to black, whereas Whitelights have a White to extremely light grey hide. Their markings can come in any color, though they are always the same color as their twin (Ie. An Amethyst blacklight will have purple markings, a blue blacklight would have blue). The name of these dragons comes from the fact that their markings glow in the dark.

Personality
A Blacklight/ Whitelight's personality always follows the OPPOSITE of their twin's stereotypical personality. (Ie. An amethyst is generally playful and loving, but an amethyst blacklight is vicious and cruel).

Special
Blacklights and Whitelights are the product of twins only, though Whitelights are actually Obsidian and Ebony blacklights. Their hides are white because their twin's have black hides. A white's twin will be black with glowing white markings like natural light. They will generally share the gender and clutching capabilities of their twin.

Other
Trelis' first Blacklight hatched from one of Loraketh's clutches, the twin of an amethyst. The first Whitelight was hatched in Telgar a turn later and was the twin of an Obsidian.

Clutching/Chasing
Male Blacklights tend to mature any time after 12 months of age.

Females, on the other hand, mature at the same time as their twin would have, and rise at roughly the same rate. They can clutch ONLY if their twin can.

All imaged were colored by Zirin and Wish through the use of Khiitan's pixels and Heart's Chibi Dragon Templates. Images were used from the original site to help depict the first type of bondable creature the color was hatched in.
