How to Train Your Dragon (Candidates!)

Obviously Alyara couldn't give the weyrlings attention without later giving the candidates attention as well. The rider smiled to herself as she held the box against her hip, quite self-satisfied that she was doing so much work today. Behind her Inoria skipped, both of them still showing the signs of the weyrling lesson earlier that day. She was giggling though, then again so was Ara. Setting the box down on the table, the candidatemaster looked at the room of assembled candidates and tried to figure out just how many she had lost to the dragonets this past hatching. A few, a good amount, not all though.

"Alright, so who's ready to actually have some fun? I know that you all have heard by now of the...'lesson' I had with the weyrlings. I bet you all are a bit jealous." She laughed a bit before continuing, Stella perching on her arm and chirping as she looked down into the box. Bayi was in there with Aries, the two flits wrapped around whatever Ara had brought in. "I'm going to put you all in teams....and why not the age-old boys versus girls? Via chores and lessons the teams will get points, at the end the winning team will get to see the eggs of the next clutch a day sooner than the team that doesn't win. Everyone will see them though so don't worry too much."

"Now, to make this extra fun and to start this off, I have a job for you all. I want you to understand what it's like caring for a dragonet, so I have a present. Think of this as a homework grade. I want you all to form a line, boys and girls for the teams, and come to the table one at a time with the rest staying back. I'm going to ask you a question, and when you answer I'm going to give you...one of these."

And with that the greenrider held up what she had brought into the room, careful to keep her hold on the object gentle so it wouldn't hurt the semi-hardened shell. Inoria clapped her hands, a smile on her face as she sat on the chair Ara used behind her desk. " 'lizard eggs!"

(OoC: That's right, your candidates are not just paired into two groups, but they are receiving a flit egg to care for. There will be another lesson once I'm done with the pics with the hatching, right now it's just getting them. Don't worry, if you're making a candidate, or now plan to make one, just post with a short note that you're making one and when it's accepted edit that note with your post and I'll backtrack to yours. Mae came forward, a smile appearing on her lips. She'd impress one day. She had to... this was her destiny. This was her dream....

Her fingered a hole in her tunic, listening to the teacher. She peered excitedly at the object she carried forward. Sand..... eggs??

Her heart leapt. Oh how fun!

"I'll do anything you ask me to do."
The Harper's eyes flashed with hope and determination.
Mae stepped a pace or two to begin a line for this lesson. She wad ready...

Ara smiled as the first candidate stepped up, waving another off that had followed and not made it to her first. Picking Aries up from the box, the rider let the Gold wrap around her arm and nodded at Mae. "Before you choose your egg, tell me....why do you think you have not impressed yet? What have you learned about yourself through standing? After all, besides Linda you have been here a long time, that sometimes means good things are to come your way." She tilted her head waiting for the answer as Aries sniffed at Mae curiously while Bayi wrapped around the eggs more. "Answer and then choose an egg."

Mae frowned suddenly, brow knitting together in thought.
Why had the eggs not chosen her? Hadn't she asked that question already? Screamed it into the unanswering forest? Sobbed it into her pillow at night?

"Maybe this clutch wasn't for me... My bonded wasn't on the sands..."
That was right. It had to be. Mae needed to stay the same. She was who she wanted to be... right? It didn't get her friends or a dragon... but....

"I don't know... I can only be one person.. and that's me. The eggs didn't see me as their match.."

Her left hand hesitated over the sand, the silver white scars clear on her palm and top of her hand. Her finger touched a shell, gingerly scooping into the sand. The egg was warm and heavier than she'd expected.
Mae's smile returned as she held the fragile this in cradled fashion against her chest.

Linda stayed back with the other Candidates as she stood there and listened, Her gold Hana on her shoulder who kept an eye on everything. Of course she would have loved the rest of her fair with her, but she realized it would be best to not have them all with her during lessons. Slowly she reached a hand up to gently scratch at the fire lizard's eye ridges as she watched Mae go forward to get an egg. Did she really want another mouth to feed? Could she refuse it and let another get the egg?

A little shrug went through her, maybe she will just leave it up to the teacher because frankly she couldn't really say no to having one... Probably a problem she had with just amassing so many of the little ones along with a couple of Huntyres. But with Mae having chosen an egg, she might as well go up and get it over with. No use letting her fret over it time and time again and worry over something that might not be in her own control.

"First before everything... I won't say no to an egg they are well a weakness of mine... but I do have eight of them now so I don't mind being without one."
