Name A'tide (Aristide)
Pronunciation ah-TEED (AIR-riss-teed)
Age 22
Season Born in Summer, 181st Turn of Interval
Gender Male
Sexuality Heterosexual
Appearance Tall and somewhat gangly, A'tide stands just under six feet and is a bit on the thin side, though his limbs seem a bit too long for his body. He tends to appear a couple years younger than he really is, as though he never quite finished puberty, though he's well into his twenties now. He is clean-shaven, with pale skin and eyes which are a light grey and mostly blind. He is capable of distinguishing light from darkness and sometimes recognizes shapes, but is otherwise blind.
His hair is black, a bit messy with a tendency to go in every direction, though A'tide does his best to keep it groomed. He prefers to cut it short, anyway, so it gives him little trouble. His clothes may be neat and clean, but he doesn't care to keep things color-coordinated and tends to clash, but at least he stands out in a crowd.
Personality Friendly when approached, but not particularly outgoing, A'tide forms opinions of people quickly, and first impressions are very important to him--if you mess up your first meeting with him, he doesn't usually give second chances. He has a short temper and gets offended easily, which means he's gotten in more than one fight in the past, though it rarely turns physical. Not that he can't hold his own in a fistfight, but A'tide fights dirty since he can't rely on sight.
He dislikes bullies, though, so he will eagerly stand up to someone to protect others, and he is generous with his belongings, often giving his creations away for free. He enjoys making things, from clothing and leather goods, to pottery and sculptures, just about anything he can get his hands on and manipulate. None of it is craft-quality, since he doesn't have formal training and learned all he knows from the local crafters, but most of it is certainly good enough to be used locally in the Weyr, and tends to be lot cheaper too, so he gets a lot of requests from the other Weyrfolk, which he is happy to do.
He isn't much of a flirt, and overall doesn't show much interest in romance at all, but he is content that way and prefers to have time to himself. He has a fondness for animals, especially canines like Zexx, and he has always had a fascination for dragons as well, though he spent most of his life not really believing he would ever Impress. He regards whers as just inferior "replacements" for dragons and doesn't have a high opinion of them, but overall he's satisfied with his life.
Family (if any) Father-A'res, Rider of Brown Kuchanth

History Aristide was born in Trelis Weyr, one of many weyrbrats with a dragonrider for a parent. His father is A'res, a brownrider, and his mother is one of the women who works in the lower caverns, a former candidate who failed to Impress but stuck around the Weyr after she aged out. His parents' relationship lasted for some seven years after his birth, but eventually came to an amiable end. A'res had always been a sort of distant man, but he was thrilled to learn he was having a son.
Aristide was very young when he became sick, too young to even remember the fever that came over him, but it nearly killed him and took his sight. He has no more than dim memories of seeing more than light and darkness. As he grew older and it became clear that his sight was not going to come back, his mother became resigned to the fact that he would likely rise no higher than a drudge.
His father did not want to accept that, though. Aristide had already shown an interest in helping some of the crafters make their goods, and A'res did everything he could to encourage this. Furthermore, when Aristide was thirteen, the brownrider bought a female canine pup and gave it to his son as a gift. He also helped Aristide to train the canine, named Aleksi, to help him move around the Weyr more easily.
Obviously, being blind, Aristide never stood for a dragon's clutch, and though his father suggested he try out for a wher, Aristide rejected the idea. He still lives in Trelis, spending most of his time either helping crafters with their work, crafting objects of his own, or doing other drudge-level tasks.
He managed to inadvertently impress a lunar huntyre, which he named Kaleo. The male is more of an annoyance than a help to him, but Aristide puts up with him anyway. A few months ago, Aleksi had her last litter of pups, and Aristide decided to keep one of the males to take over Aleksi's job. It was apparently just in time as well, for the pups were hardly weaned before Aleksi grew sick and died. Aristide has been training Zexx to replace her, though they still have a lot of work to do.
With the death of the Senior Queen, the state of things at Trelis began to decline, and when S'vrin and Ar'rex took command, Aristide had already all but decided to leave and make himself useful to the rebellion. After Impressing an obsidian fire lizard from an egg bought at the winter gather, things at Trelis began to change, and after a particularly heated argument with a rider, Aristide decided it was time for him to leave Trelis and join the Rebellion. He took Zexx and Regal and got a ride on a ship headed for Rindell Island.
For a while his daily life was much the same as it had been at Trelis, though he did meet a surprisingly friendly garnet named Aeurosth and his rider Rox. He also began thinking perhaps he had a chance at Impression after all, since everything else on Pern seemed to be changing, and when the Rebellion's first clutch began to hatch, he attended from the stands. That didn't stop the wingless green Ninianeth from finding him, however, and the blind human and mutated green took turns reassuring each other that they were fine with each other.
Pet:
Name Kaleo
Pronunciation KAH-lee-oh
Age 3 turns
Type Huntyre
Rank Lunar
Size 1 foot
Color Codes Body-7A8B8B
Beak and Feet-2F4F4F
Personality/Appearance Kaleo's definitely on the small side, even for a lunar, but when he's grown, he'll be quite acrobatic in the air. His body is one solid shade of silvery grey, with plumes that are almost the same shade as the rest of his body. His beak and feet are both much darker, though.
Kaleo's a complete and total drama-queen. He is never happy unless people are showering him with attention, and he has quite a short temper when they're not. He's quite unlike most Lunars, who tend to be shy and submissive--Kaleo's outgoing, curious, and headstrong. He's also surprisingly feminine, not just in appearance but personality as well. He is as prone to vanity and preening as any Forest and rather flighty as well.
Name Regal
Pronunciation REE-gall
Age 9 months
Type Fire Lizard
Rank Obsidian
Size 34 inches
Personality/Appearance Regal is a rather slender-looking flit with a very feminine build. She has particularly long, slender wings and a long tail that she tends to use almost like a prehensile limb--it's usually wrapped around A'tide's wrist or neck for balance, or else to hold something in place which she is interested in. In length, she is pretty much directly in the middle of the size range for obsidians.
In personality, Regal certainly lives up to her name. She is generally quiet and somewhat solitary, but she is poised and commanding in her mannerisms, almost lady-like, in fact. She can be a bit cold toward most people and tends to take a while to warm up to anyone, but she is calm and mild-mannered around strangers and other flits. She is blunt and quite matter-of-fact, but as confident and self-assured as any queen, and she is not hesitant to give the cold shoulder to those she disapproves of.
Name Zexx
Pronunciation Zecks
Age 1 turn
Type Canine
Rank N/A
Size Large
Color Codes Body-0C0C0C
Markings-C16513
Personality/Appearance Zexx is fairly average in size, but he's about the same height as his mother, though with a broader, thicker build. His fur is a deep, glossy black with a lighter brown color on his muzzle and chin, neck, chest, and belly. He also has brown on his front legs, up to the elbow, and on his back legs, to the ankle.
Zexx can be a stubborn and determined canine around most people, but he always listens to A'tide. He is rather aloof and doesn't care much for the attention of strangers; he'll tend to ignore people, even when "off-duty" and he's not particularly affectionate. He is intelligent and very clever for a canine and picks up things quickly. He can be a bit overly exuberant at times, but he's young yet--he'll grow out of that.
Dragon
Name: Ninianeth
Pronunciation: Nine-E-an-eth
Age: 0 months
Type: Dragon
Rank: Green
Size: 25.2 feet full growth
Mutations: Wingless, Fins
Color Codes: 28ae7b
6afb92
92cca6
c3fdb8
Appearance: Compared to most dragons, Ninianeth is almost serpent-like, very long and thin, with a slender build and long neck and tail. Her legs are somewhat short but still well-proportioned, and she has little trouble moving around on land. Her paws have small fin-like structures at the elbow and ankle joints, and she has similar fins along her ridge at the forked tips of her tail. The most striking feature of this green is her total lack of wings, something she gets annoyed about when it draws so much unwelcome attention.
'Neth's hide is a light blue-tinged green the color of seaweed, though she has faint, irregular markings in a paler shade on her chest, belly, and the underside of her tail. The paler coloring is also noticable on her front claws. Her only other marking is a strange ring-like marking around her eyes, with thin lines extending out from it like sun-rays, both in a brighter and more pure green.
Personality: For all that A'tide will insist that he does not need a protector or a mother, Ninianeth will never quite believe it. She is an extremely protective dragon who is convinced it is her job to look over her rider, protecting him from the harsher opinions in the world, as he does for her when it comes to her own winglessness. Even if A'tide never appreciates it, she'll just keep on trying. She is exceptionally stubborn as well, not the sort to admit she is wrong easily, and very determined. She hates to give up, viewing it as a weakness in herself and proof of her own helplessness. This makes her a very hard-working dragoness who wants to prove herself to others. She is brave in the face of danger--perhaps a little too brave, sometimes, when there are people watching, and she is not always as careful as she should be.
She likes to act tough, 'Neth does, and is always the first to announce that she and A'tide are the best, and no one else's opinions matter. She isn't exactly malignant or vicious, but she doesn't always realize her own strength and scariness and sometimes is more intimidating than she means to be. She is a little vain as well, always showing off her freshly-oiled hide and her swimming skills, and she is not shy at all about asking the male dragons if they think she's beautiful. This toughness and devil-may-care attitude is largely an act, however. She is constantly worrying about how others see her and wants to prove to them she can be useful. She doesn't like to show how much it bothers her that she is wingless.
'Neth isn't shy about talking to other dragons, even bossing them around if she possibly thinks she can get away with it, but she is not as chatty around humans and refuses to talk directly to any human unless they've earned her respect. She'll be sure to tell them how much of an honor it is she's chosen to talk to them when she does so. She tends to ignore animals, not particularly fond nor distrustful of them, but she took an immediate dislike to Zexx--she sees the guide-dog as a rival for A'tide's affections and thinks the canine is doing what should be her job, nevermind that she's already proved to be a very bad guide even when she can accompany her rider.
Mind-Voice (If applicable):
--I do not care what the others think. I only need you. Together, Mine, we will be better. I could put a Queen to shame if I tried.
-- I will protect you. I can not let a person hurt you. You can be upset and testy, but you are Mine. I will be your guardian. We are strange to everyone, but we are strong.
-- Don't do that! I know what I am doing, and you should listen. We are best Mine. Even if I cannot flame thread, I am useful.
-- I am pretty. I am rght Mine? I know you cannot see... but you love me?
-- Just let me show you this image! I can be your eyes, Mine!! [/color]
Ninianeth has a very deep (at least for a female) voice. She is quite persuasive and commanding really. She constantly is praising Hers, and telling him over and over how perfect they are for each other.
