Junior Weyrwoman Rikula of Gold Majoriith
"I am nobody's pet!"
PB:Anna Popplewell
Name: Rikula
Pronunciation: Ree-cool-uh
Age: 21 turns
Season Born In: Winter
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual *Largely uninterested though*
Appearance:
At about 5ft 6in, Riku isn't exactly short. However, she is not tall either, though she may seem like it. Her stance is very open and she holds herself proudly, but it is not because of vanity. No, in fact Riku could care less about her appearance. Throw back her almost waist-length hair into a pony-tail or braid, even if it's dirty, and have clothes on her that don't smell awful and she'll be fine. Her outfits can be, and often are, thread-worn and patched up with perhaps a smudge or two on them, but she could care less. As long as it keeps her comfortable, it is suitable. The reason why she seems tall and confident, is because she is. She holds herself with pride, not in looks but in self, and that can make all the difference when bartering in the Holds and Weyr.
Some might say Riku is a pretty young woman, and truth be told, she actually isn't half bad. She has delicate pink lips that curve slightly at one side in a smirk. Her complexion is the kind that will glow a pale moonlight hue in certain lighting, yet show a golden kiss when in others. Riku's body structure amazingly isn't that of a twig's, though she is small. Instead, she has muscle and curves to her, and has a hourglass shape that often is accented by her clothes. Which, speaking of often are either tunics with earth toned pants, or occasionally a tough material made dress with a corset-like structure usually accompanying any outfit she wears. She always has a more proper stance, and no, by proper she would never mean as in the kind Hold girls try to have. Instead, it is to help during archery and knife fighting practice by keeping her straight and steady. The leather also helps to protect her middle section from any sort of danger she may come across.
Her hands are slender and feminine, but are quick and nimble at work. She can string a bow and pluck it with the ease of a Harper strumming his instrument. The only difference is, she uses hers to kill and defend instead of entertain. That is another thing, unless made to, and even then, Rikula will have a small dagger hidden in her boot. She wears brown leather riding boots that go up to just above the ankle, and she takes very good care of them, almost as much as with her bow. Her bow, yes her appearance can't be described without this essential piece. It is a part of her like any other appendage.
The bow is made out of a dark wood, glossed over and sanded to form a curved edge that is strung with the best she can buy. The handle portion is wrapped in leather as well, and Riku has carved a few decorative markings into it that look like vines. The quiver matches this, and holds arrows that are tipped with wherry feathers that have been died red usually, otherwise they are left alone.
General appearance by itself cannot completely describe Riku though. No, there are smaller details that one must look further into to really understand what makes her her. The lips, as stated, curve slightly into a knowing smirk. Her green eyes, a hazel mix of gray and forest leaves, are playful and yet serious all at once. However, one side normally shows more than the other, and if you look hard enough they will flick from one to the other depending on her mood and who she's talking to. Besides facial features like these, Riku often is always tense, so much so that she gets headaches from the tension in her shoulders and neck. She will never be found completely relaxed, because her training never allows her to. The young woman is always looking for exits, she is always looking for opponents, she is always making strategies. It's just too hard a habit to break.
Personality:
One might expect by simply looking at her that Rikula is a stone in terms of personality; and for the most part, they'd be correct. She doesn't allow herself to trust others easily, because trust often can lead to betrayal. The last thing she would want is to be betrayed, or to be used. Because of this, she goes around the world with a steely gaze and stoic sort of serenity. Nothing seems to phase her, you could be bleeding and she'd sooner make a sarcastic remark while bandaging you up than feint at the sight.
That is one thing that most people quickly figure out about Riku. She may seem serene when she is simply sitting there, perhaps even gentle if she's looking at a child, which often reminds her of her now dead sibling. However, the moment her voice hits, the normally sarcastic remark proves that she's as sharp as one of her arrows or knives. Riku pays attention, she watches, and she learns. Then, she uses what she's gathered to cut any opponents down to their "proper" size. Long ago, the young woman decided no one would ever take control of her, and so far she has ensured that. After all, when most of your life consisted of watching your back because you had a crazed uncle trying to capture you, you tend to never let your guard down.
It's probably why she doesn't trust anyone. Rikula can't afford to. Since she grew up always on the run from Rikolu, and she could never tell when someone was friend or foe, Riku had to quickly become a good judge of character. She's witty because of it, and uses her, what the some call "street-smarts" to gain the upper hand whenever possible. However, Rikula has some bad points naturally to her because of this intelligence and almost readily deceptive nature. She can't stand letting a challenge go, and it will eat at her for days afterwards if she does. Because of this, she will often go after anyone who does challenge her with a vengeance, and gladly laugh in their face when she's proven them wrong.
In the chance that she looses the challenge, she always has an escape plan in case there is a price to pay; and if there isn't, she often will nurse her hurt pride for a few days or longer. The only thing that she seems to care about, because Rikula certainly isn't all that concerned for her own safety, is her bonded. She is something to be protected and cared for at all times, and she comes first no matter what to her. She could want something with everything she has, and yet she will give up everything to make Majoriith happy instead. It's the only creature, dragon or human, she will do this for though. The only other being her brother, which now only adds to her bitter nature.
Even though Riku isn't a people person necessarily, and she can be stone-like and untrusting, there is a strange phenomenon that the rare person will see. Riku, though she normally gets just as antsy around them, occasionally will have a soft spot for young children. Especially babies. This also bleeds over into caring and training animals. There's a tenderness that never is seen with anyone else but her dragon there, and it is something she hides with great care. Besides this, the other strange thing, is even though she hates to be around groups, particularly when any sort of political function is involved, she can step up to be a leader when needed.
She doesn't like it, in fact Riku detests it, but she will do it. If there is a leader needed, she will rise up. This is simply because she can't stand chaos, it's too insane, and horrible things happen because of it. Riku always said that she didn't want to impress a high ranking color. However, deep down if the call is there, she will answer. She can't allow herself to stand at the sidelines and watch her world crumble...it is for that reason that she believes Majoriith chose her.
History:
To explain Rikula's history, you have to understand her background. Her mother was a simple farm girl living at a nearby hold to Telgar Weyr. Not a Major Hold, just a simple, small minor one. Their father was the Lord Holder's oldest son. They weren't meant to be married to each other, and tradition in the hold stated that their father should have married someone that his parents matched him to. However, Riku's mother and father fell in love anyway, and her grandparents decided that they couldn't tear them apart.
Riku's Uncle, who was also fond of her mother, did not like this at all. The younger son of the Lord Holder couldn't do anything about it though, and watched in fury as his older brother took the woman he wanted and had a family with her. The man was devious, and he took turns to plot his revenge. The entire time Rikula and her brother were growing up though, things were seemingly peaceful. Rikula took after her mother more and often would go out hunting with her, and grew up hating the idea of being a pretty little treasure. It was the last thing she wanted, and even today she refuses to say that she was once a Hold Lady's daughter.
She learned to fight instead, and took to training with the hold guards. When she was 15 turns, her Uncle finally set his plans into motion. He sent paid men to kill her father while out on a run to the nearby Weyr, and even though they made it seem like an accident, the family knew. Their mother, in grief, took her own life. Though Riku wouldn't look deep within herself enough to understand, this is the start of her distrust for everyone but her younger brother. When her Uncle came to her, saying that he had arranged a marriage between her and a son of a nearby Major Hold, Riku stabbed him and ran with Kikunae.
For the next 3 turns, they moved from place to place in an attempt to stay out of their Uncle's reach. Often, their three cousins would help them, only to spite each other by ratting the other sisters out. After a couple of turns of this, Rikula severed any and all connection with them. It was on her 18th turn that she and Kikunae stopped close to Telgar Weyr, the very one that they grew up around. A bluerider had found them on a search though, but they weren't from the Weyr, they were from the growing Rebellion. Riku was prepared for a fight, and rightfully so.
However, the girl still refused and as the bluerider feared, he had to use force. In the end though, the rider was killed and it was Kikunae that was injured. He died two days later. Alone now, and filled with hatred forboth the Rebellion and dragons alike, Rikula did all she could to give the rebels and even the Weyrfolk around the Weyr grief. Usually, it was through things like breaking down wagons with tithes. One day though, a dragon from the actual Weyr found her instead, and it was quite the odd little interaction.
Rikula hid herself away for the most part after that. It was easier for her to just disappear. However, she couldn't hide from everything. When the touching came around and a candidate dared her to touch the Gold egg, the most recent daughter laid by the Gold Maelath of Junior Weyrwoman Iskra, she found that she had an instant need to check on it. Never once did she stop thinking about the egg after that, and the girl found herself needing to stop by to check on the clutch via the stands frequently in her day.
Her only escape was when she went out to the woods to practice with her bow and arrows. Even then, she found that she was not entirely alone. On one of her outings, another candidate found her and amazingly they got along fairly well. When the hatching came around and Rikula almost was mauled by a wicked green, that same candidate was the one that stepped in front of her to take the beating instead. The boy ended up impressing a dragon of the clutch after that, and Rikula was left to wait out the rest of the hatching.
It wasn't until the end that her egg hatched. It was the same one that she had felt so strongly about at the touching, and true to form a Queenlet hatched from the golden shell.
Since then it's been a whirlwind of lessons and training for Rikula. Poor little Majoriith is still the polite and quiet, almost fearful Queenlet she was...minus the little part of course though. However, little by little, Rikula is turning into a leader. Whether she wants to or not.
When word came about Trelis Weyr having lost their only Goldrider and it was decided that Iskra, one of the Junior Weyrwomen at the Weyr, would be sent to be their new Senior for a time, Rikula never thought her own Senior Weyrwoman would choose her to go with the Goldrider. It wasn't just that Rikula would be the active Junior Weyrwoman of Trelis....but she was to be groomed to be the new Senior whenever another Gold egg was laid, and once that one was taught, Iskra was to return to the old Weyr.

"I can't put my feelings for her in words, it's just not possible. She's everything to me, and is the only reason why I put up with all of it."
Name: Majoriith
Pronunciation: Mah-jor-E-th
Age: 3 turns
Type: Dragon
Rank: Gold
Size: 48.6 feet
Color Codes:
b8ac38, e3dd7e, b07e0a, 898230, 977b16, and eeef7b
Appearance:
Primarily a rather fade bronze-gold with lighter yellow-gold and an orange gold color with flecks of green gold on her wings, Majoriith actually has a very calming affect for those who look at her. Her face marking is a bit interesting and somewhat like a mask, which she often wishes she can wear.
She is a rather blocky and solidly built gold, though her limbs are long and graceful. Her wings are long, but look rather dainty as the bones are thin, well formed, and light. She has a lot of muscle and strength packed into her body which will give her great stamina in flight.
Personality:
Majoriith doesn't have the typical authority of a queen. she lets herself be pushed around by others. She will need to learn from Rikula if she is ever to be a real queen. She is so sweet and motherly and wants to take care of everyone. However, she will stretch herself thin in doing so. Majoriith is timid, very very timid. Except in one case. When it comes to protecting her Weyr, her bonded, and those she loves.
When it comes to protecting those she cares about, Majoriith will change instantly into a thing of regalia and cool determination. She doesn't take no for an answer, and the general shyness that people get accustomed to tends to entirely slip away into nothing. It is in these moments alone that Majoriith proves to be a true Queen and not just a worrisome dragonet...not that she's anywhere close to being a dragonet anymore.
Mind-Voice (If applicable):
Do we have to go? There are people out there......but must we? ....fine.

It doesn't matter Girath, you know what we were told to do. Bring them back, and do whatever is needed if they give us trouble. I really hate this sort of thing.
Riku, who had heard the blue because he had spoken to them all, shook her head and refused to come. She of course could not read the human's mind though. "I'm no Queenrider you overgrown firelizard! You're insane...a green perhaps, but they're useful and actually work. Stupid Queens and Sub-Queen even just sit around and wait for the next flight. They're nothing but tools for the Bronzes to use."
Come then, we will see who is right.

Mine, don't hurt her Mine. She is not one of them. She is good...and so troubled. Let's bring her to the Weyrwoman and Leader!
The green dragoness that had found her crooned to her rider and finally the woman gave in. Rikula, captured and with arms tied had no choice but to come with them. "Come on, if you're going to off me, just get it over with already!"
The rider dismissed the girl's reaction and retorts though and kept leading Rikula through the Weyr until they met with the leaders. When the words were said "you should stay with us", of course following a long debate about whether or not the Weyr was to be trusted, Rikula could only say yes. What could she do? She wasn't about to wait until her uncle found her again.

The Golden shell split open into two halves to reveal none other than a dragonet of multiple gold hues... Some more green, more orange, more of a... pale color. She looked at her brother. He was HUGE compared to even the gold. But he looked at her with a soft croon. And she looked at him, not sure what to do. He was strange.
The little gold stood there, looking a bit worried. She felt... insecure... But it was only her that kept things calm right now. So many eyes were on her. Even those of the large female gold behind her who put her head down and gently nudged her.
The gold looked at her and seemed to give a sigh before going towards the female candidates. Oh... where was hers. They were all so hurt. Oh... was Hers okay... Hers had to be okay... She keened softly and stepped towards where Hers was. Oh... oh she was unhurt! Thank Faranth!
Oh RikulaMine! I was so scared you were hurt! So many are! Oh Rikula! We need to look after my siblings! Please... Let's take your Majoriith off these sands.
