Quinton Aaron
Name:
M'ke {Mike/"Big Mike"}
Pronunciation:
m - k
Age:
18 Turns
Season Born In:
Fall
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Appearance:
M’ke is a tall young man standing at six-foot-eight-inches he is taller than most young men his age. He weighs four hundred and forty pounds and most of his weight is sheer muscle. He has a deep, rich brown skin that certainly makes him stand out, even if he wasn’t so tall. He keeps his black hair cut short and doesn’t like it to get long enough to cover his ears. He has soulful, dark brown eyes that are large, shimmering pools of emotion. He is a very expressive person and has an almost a childish innocence about him. It almost gives the impression that he is a very, Very large child that just wants acceptance. He typically wears subdued colors and will often times try to blend into his surroundings. He even moves with a sort of subdued gait that most would associate with a person who is afraid or very shy.
Personality:
M’ke is a quiet young man and is actually very shy. This is because most people have run from him because of how intimidating his size can be, and he doesn’t like the feeling that leaves behind. So he typically tries to stay away from large crowds and will usually skip going to social functions. In truth though he is like a very, Very large, furless teddy bear that just wants to be accepted by those around him. If people would give him a chance they would see that he is actually a little child trapped in a body that is more than a few sizes too big. To those that actually do take the time to get to know him, he is a fun-loving, playful eighteen turn old young man who is extremely gentle. And whenever he does something wrong he is very contrite and does his best to make up for whatever it is he has done.
M’ke is very protective of his friends; then again...most of his friends are normally young children who haven’t learned to be judgmental yet. He seems to have an easier time talking with young children than he does with people his own age or older because of how open children typically are. He can often be found with the children in the Weyr’s crèche giving them piggy-back rides or playing dolls with the little girls. He is like a big brother to most of the kids and enjoys spending time with them and tries to help them in any way he can. He also has a soft spot for small animals and has a hard time turning one away. He has an especially big soft spot for young animals and can’t stand to see one hurt. He’d just as soon protect a young animal from a bully as he would a young child.

History:
M’ke’s father, Malik, had been breeding herdbeasts since he was a young child and had learned the craft from his father. Malik was never exactly a kind person, and had always had a bit of a temper, but his own father was never exactly supportive or loving either, and that’s where the man learned most of his habits. Malik’s mother had died when he was just a young boy, and so he had had to rely on his father for care and guidance. Some say that if his mother had lived through the fever that took her life that he might have been a kinder person. But as there is nothing anyone can do about the past, there was little hope for the poor child. His father used to beat him when he was drunk, and the man was almost always drinking. It came to no surprise to anyone that the man died by choking on his drink.
M’ke’s mother on the other hand was raised by both parents who loved and cherished her. Inaske had always been shy and a little withdrawn, but she had always been so sweet and kind to everyone and everything. She was always helping the people of Rindell with just about anything they asked. Her parents had died at a ripe old age and had left everything to their daughter, though it wasn’t exactly much. Just a small house, some meager furniture, and their measly savings that were just enough to keep up with the little expenses Inaske had. But it was just enough to keep the young woman content with her life, but no matter what she did she always felt like something was missing from her life. That something was a loving husband and happy, playful children who’s smile could always brighten her day.
Inaske had met Malik during one of the village’s annual festivals and quickly fell in love with the hard man that most people warned her against. But for some reason the young woman just couldn’t get the man out of her head, and would do anything to make him happy. In her mind he was a loving man that would never do anything to harm her, and for the first turn that they were married this was true. But as the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” After that first turn Malik started to take after his father more and more each day. He started drinking, and it wasn’t long after that that he started to beat Inaske. Every time he would beat her he would leave, and once he was sober would come home with gifts of flowers and candy and would always apologize and swear that it would never happen again.
But it did happen, again, and again, and again. Night after night he would start drinking as soon as he was finished working with his herdbeasts and would then proceed to beat the poor woman. But she didn’t want to leave, and would always defend him when the other village woman would say nasty and terrible things about him. Soon enough she became pregnant, and for a while things were like they used to be when Inaske and Malik had first married. But then tragedy almost took both the woman and the babies lives. Mike as the baby was named, had been born larger than most babies, and everyone believed that he had almost killed his mother because of his large size. But Inaske was stronger than everyone had originally thought. The three turns that she had endured all of Malik’s beatings had done quite a bit to strengthen the woman.
Everyone in the village was amazed at how gentle, and almost scared, Malik was the first time he saw and held his son. It was as if something inside of him had switched off and now he was a completely different person. He was a doting father until Inaske had fully recovered and Mike was old enough to start working the beasts with his father. Then that same something that had turned off when Mike was a baby switched back on, and Malik started drinking again. With the drinking came the beatings, but Inaske made sure that Malik never hit Mike, no matter how enraged the man might become. Mike learned to fear the man that was his father, but his mother swore that as long as there was breath still in her lungs that she would make sure nothing bad ever happened to him.
Inaske had made sure to keep to her promise to her son, and after ten turns of protecting her son was rewarded when Malik came home one morning with a gift for both her and their son. He had brought them firelizard eggs, something neither of them had ever dreamt of. Inaske’s egg ended up hatching a large green whereas Mike’s hatched a strange black firelizard that Mike named Ebony for his black hide. For quite a while after that things seemed to get better. Malik wasn’t drinking as much as before, and spent more and more time with the herdbeasts. Soon after Mike turned sixteen however, his father became ill. According to the healers it wasn’t anything life threatening, but it did make the man unable to work. So Mike took over his father’s job of breeding the beasts, and as a present his mother bought him yet another egg.
This egg hatched into a rather large amethyst firelizard. He named the purple female Cherry for a couple of reasons, the first being that Mike was eating a cherry pie when she hatched and she had decided to horde the pie for herself once she realized that it tasted nice. At first Mike thought that she had rolled in the cherry juice because her hide matched the color perfectly, but once he cleaned her up after she finished eating he realized that she was naturally the same color as cherry pie, and so he decided on a name. It was only single turn after Cherry had hatched that Search Rider’s from Bay Weyr came to Rindell Village and took a few candidates back with them; Mike was one of these lucky young people. Mike had originally fought with everything he had to not leave his mother.
But she made him swear that he would at least give it a try for a full turn before returning to the Village. Mike swore to his mother, and then left for Bay Weyr with Ebony and Cherry as his constant companions. He wrote to his mother every chance he got, and was soon making friends with the young children of the Weyr’s crèche. At first the crèche workers were rather afraid to have Mike around the children, but when they first saw the children gang up on the large young man and take him to the ground they realized that he would never harm them. This idea was strengthened when he protected one of the smaller children from being bullied by a child that was almost three times the poor child’s size. From that day on Mike was always welcome at the crèche.
Mike was at Bay Weyr almost ten months before the call went out to all the candidates that the eggs were hatching. Mike had just fallen asleep when he received the call, but did as he had been instructed by the Candidate Master and quickly dressed and hurried to the sands. He stood a little bit away from the other candidates as they all waited for the first egg to hatch. It wasn’t long before the hatching was in full swing. Mike was starting to think that he would be left standing, and would be able to go home when what appeared to be the last two eggs hatched. It was a blue and an amethyst, and the two of them seemed to be arguing over something, but Mike couldn’t be sure, that’s when he felt something touch his mind, and at first he thought it was just one of his firelizards, but that theory was soon proved wrong.
Come M,ke, come Mine. Your Riluth is ready to leave the Hatching Sands and is ready to be fed. The hatchling that spoke was soon standing quietly beside Mike, now known as M’ke. At first, Riluth’s voice was boring, and awfully plain, but soon M’ke heard a gentle sweetness in the voice which made the young man smile. M’ke felt as though he was in a dream, not even in his wildest dreams had he ever even thought of impressing a dragon. But here he was, walking off the sands with a large brown dragonet that he hadn’t even seen hatch. I had hatched rather early Mine, but I chose to remain in the shadows so I wouldn't have to deal with those annoying siblings of mine. Riluth shook his great brown neck as he spoke to his rider, which made M’ke wonder just how much his new dragon liked being ignored.
It didn’t matter though, because now M’ke had a dragon to take care of and soon enough all of his time was spent feeding, cleaning, and doing everything he can to make Riluth happy. M’ke rather enjoyed the times when Riluth was happy, mainly because that rare sweetness would enter the large brown’s voice. But in general Riluth just wanted to be left alone, and really didn’t want anything to do with lessons or the Weyrling Master. This rose more than a few problems for the large seventeen turn old young man. It was almost always a fight to get Riluth to the lessons on time, and the fighting didn’t stop there. Riluth seemed to have a really big problem with taking orders from the older dragon and his rider, so most of the time M’ke had to bribe and beg Riluth to just do as he was told until the lesson was over.
It didn’t really surprise either of them when Bay Weyr agreed to send them to the Rebellion when M’ke asked, because they both knew it was because of how much a pain in the butt Riluth was and M’ke had a feeling that the Weyrling Master had pleaded with the Weyrleaders to let them go. M’ke didn’t really care about that though, he would be able to see his mother again, and he would be able to introduce her to Riluth, who he assured he would like. Inaske wasn’t an authoritative person after all, which was a small plus in the brown’s mind. But it didn’t matter for soon enough they were on their way to the Rebellion, and a new life. Neither of them was really sure what awaited them there, and they still don’t really know what the future has in store for them, but they are both just happy that the trip is over, and they can finally get settled in one place. Though Riluth is still eagerly waiting the day that he no longer has to deal with anyone of authority.

Ebony
Size:

Color Codes:
Base: 000000 Black
Paws: 807E79 Friar Gray
Face Mask: 6D6C6C Dove Gray
Appearance:
Ebony is, as his name suggests, an Ebony firelizard. He is at the larger end of the Ebony’s reaching twenty-four inches from the tip of his black muzzle to the tips of his black tail. He is very well proportioned except for the fact that his tail is very long. He keeps this long tail of his wrapped firmly, but loosely, around M’ke’s neck. If he had a normal sized tail he wouldn’t be able to wrap his tail completely around the young man’s neck. True to his color’s standards he is a typical black in color with only two variations on his hide. His paws appear that he has stepped into puddles of Friar Gray paint and never got them cleaned. The only other marking on this black firelizard, is the dove gray, raccoon mask on his face. Otherwise his hide is unmarred by any marks whatsoever.
Personality:
Ebony is a quiet flitter that doesn’t like all that much attention, except from M’ke. He almost never leaves the large man’s shoulders and if he does ever leave, it isn’t for very long. He is shy around strangers and prefers to stay hidden as much as possible. He isn’t the big dreamer most ebony’s seem to be though and for that M’ke is thankful. Though he can be quite playful when he is alone with His and Cherry, he seems to “disappear” whenever strangers are around. In truth he just hides in M’ke’s shirt until they are either gone, or M’ke calls him out. He doesn’t like fighting, and will often run from confrontation. Even if he’s backed into a corner he finds a way to get away and runs back to M’ke so that his large human can protect him from whatever he perceives as a threat.

Type:

Rank:
Amethyst
Size:

Color Codes:
Base: 2A0359 Cherry Pie
Appearance:
Cherry is a large amethyst firelizard stretching fourteen inches from the tip of her purple nose to the tips of her purple tail. She is equally proportioned and is very proud of the fact. It helps her blend in to the crowd. Well, that’s what she seems to believe anyways. She usually sits on the opposite shoulder of Ebony but is also very happy riding in the pocket of his shirts and jackets as well. She is a very plain firelizard and is the color of cherry pies. That’s actually how she got her name...well...that and the fact that M’ke was eating a cherry pie when she hatched and she decided that what was left of the pie belonged to her. After that day however, she seems to be doing a very good job of keeping herself clean. There are times however that she gets dirty and demands that M’ke drop what he’s doing and clean her.
Personality:
Cherry is a gentle firelizard who loves nothing more than having a good time with Her’s and Ebony. They are her greatest friends, and the best toys she has found. She is more social than Ebony, but isn’t as trusting as one might think. She has learned to be wary of strangers because of how mean some people can be. Though she enjoys being with M’ke and Ebony, she also enjoys a good adventure now and then. It’s nice to get out and explore a bit. But she could live without all the dirt that one seems to collect while adventuring. While she really does enjoy being cleaned up and the attention that comes with it, she would prefer to just stay dirt free. She likes to look her best at all times, but that isn’t an easy task when you like playing and going for adventures.

He has a milky brown marking on his face that looks like someone tried to paint a broad stripe all around his face but forgot to do the tip of his muzzle. It actually looks like they forgot to finish his face because they got distracted by his head-knobs. He actually looks like a pretty sound dragon in all. He likes to keep his wings close to his sides so that he actually looks smaller than he really is so that he will attract less attention. It doesn’t matter if it is positive or negative attention, he just tries to avoid it. Because of this he isn’t very worried about whether he is perfectly clean or not either.
Personality:
Riluth hates to be bothered and would be much happier to be left alone than he would with other dragons, no matter how nice or attractive they are. Whereas most browns like being with other dragons, he likes his solitude. This might be because he isn’t a very trusting dragon, and it doesn’t seem that he really wants to trust anyone either. He ignores just about everyone no matter who they are or what rank they are.
Riluth has an especially big problem with authoritative figures, which makes being a weyrling rather difficult. Things would be so much easier if he could just graduate and then be left alone. But he knows, deep down, that even when they graduate he is going to have to deal with those authoritative people and dragons. But he hopes that they won’t be as bad then as they are currently.
Mind-Voice:
Leave me be.
Riluth doesn’t talk much but when he does his voice is rather plain and pretty boring to listen to. It is a monotone voice that almost has no emotion in it, except for the occasional sound of irritation. On the extremely rare occasions it has even been known to be rather sweet. Because of its rarity, the gentle sweetness of Riluth’s voice is something that his rider normally tries to coax out of him by doing whatever he can to please the dragon.
