PB: Jennifer Lawrence-blonde hair
Name Eiko
Pronunciation Echo
Age 17 turns (+1 since creation)
Season Born in Summer
Gender Female
Sexuality Bisexual, male preference
Appearance
Eiko is not your typical Pernese girl. She's average height at five foot eight inches, but the similarities to the majority of the world ends there. Her body is slim and petite, often seen as fragile and almost sickly even by some. She isn't without her curves though, especially when she wants to show them off and decides to have an actual meal for a few days. What makes the difference however, is her face. Soft and entirely feminine, it has little in terms of angled lines. However, it does hold a set of crystal blue eyes that seem so much older that a sixteen turn old deserves. They're often sad and frightened, showing her every emotion. On top of that, she has platinum blonde hair, not light enough to be called white, but certainly not the mixture of golden browns and dirty blondes that is the normal lighter color for Pern.
It hangs down to the bottom of her shoulder blades, cut into layers to help manage the thickness. Often times, her bangs get into her eyes and she has a habit of blowing them away or running her hands through it while nervous. It seems to meld well with her skin which also is lighter than what most would be accustomed to. It's not the snowy paleness that handlers have from having nocturnal lives, but it is a milky and honey color that refuses to tan. It often is covered by pastel colored fabrics that often are in the form of tunics and tighter pants or leggings. She's not one to wear jewelry either, although she does never take off one necklace, a silver chain with the ring that her father had made for her mother when they first married.
Personality
Eiko is a ghost. She is silent, she is observant, and she is fleeting. There one moment and then gone the next, the obsidianrider is never one to show too much emotion or step into the spotlight of her own accord. She would much rather be hidden in the background where it is safe. More than this though, Eiko is a void, or tries to be, where emotions normally stand. It is her one goal to show nothing at all, simply because it is easier that way. If someone tries to pierce that shell, she automatically gets even more distant, or worse she will retaliate with a silver-tongued retort. The girl is entirely focused on the idea that she is not wanted by anyone, and is only needed when it involves her duties to The Rebellion.
Because of this lack of, social grace as some may call it, Eiko is not the kind of girl to be found in a group. Whether it is tiny or large does not matter, it is still filled with people and that is enough. Most seem to be fine with this, after all an eerie girl who never seems to smile is a bit of a downer when trying to have a good time. At the most, an odd individual may receive a glimmer of acknowledgement such as a twitch or glare. However, because she is being groomed to become the next Lead Obsidian, Eiko is expected to know how to deal with people and crowds. The girl hates this though, and more than anything wishes that one of the other Lieutenants could take over. With D’tri a topazrider *something that Noita sees as a second to her own ranking*, and Aela from Trelis *a place that is too on the fence to be entirely secure about*, Eiko is the only one left for the job…and she’d give it away in a moment’s notice if she could.
Despite what some might call a cold exterior though, underneath Eiko's shell is a million emotions she would rather do away with than actually admit to having. She is curious about everything, wanting to understand anything she comes across. Often this leads her to spending great deals of time in the poor excuse for a records room that The Rebellion has. When it comes down to it though, she flocks to learning in solitude because it is easier than facing everyone else. Eiko’s problem there lies not in that she does not want to socialize, but that she does not know how to do it very well. Whenever the girl has to be around people it often ends in the obsidianrider feeling awkward, and turning the other way. However, she would never be the kind of person to wish bad things on people, unless they have thought bad things on her first. In fact, she wants most of the people she knows to be happy, she is just too socially awkward to try to make it happen herself.
Besides not knowing what to do with people, Eiko has become so anti-social that anything, or one, she meets can be almost too overbearing. Touch especially can be very unnerving for her since she seems to be hyper-aware with this. As a result, Eiko has often drawn away from the idea of love or any sort of intimacy. It is easier to just be by herself alone and safe. Thankfully, this currently is not too much of an issue since she is only just getting to the age where weyrlings can consider relationships. Eiko knows that one day however, Nimarath will rise, and she fears it. To tell the truth, no one that knows the rider would be surprised if the chasing riders find her locked in her weyr, under the bedfurs with a knife.
The only thing that she has found that does not bother her in terms of proximity is Nimarath. Perhaps it is because the obsidian is so quiet and radiates a distinct lack of caring. Perhaps it is because they are two halves of the same whole. Either way, when Eiko needs a sanctuary, she can always find it within Nimarath's embrace…whenever the obsidian is feeling in a comforting mood that is.

"So, you want to hear my story? Not many do...and I tend to not tell anyone, but someone might as well know. Who knows how long I'll live in our world with all this chaos?"
"My family was a small one, just my brother and I, our parents were either dead or didn't care enough to claim us...but it wasn't a bad way to start off life. We were raised in Bay Weyr with the other weyrbrats, and we always looked out for each other. I miss him, but there will be more about my twin later, for now let's not talk about those sad parts.
We would fight occasionally sure, but for the most part it was just one huge adventure. He was always pulling me along, Faranth knew even then I wasn't sociable enough to bring the ideas up myself. Back then I actually had friends, but I was foolish. I thought that they loved me, but they just loved him. Time told that tale... Either way, when we were old enough, my brother and I went into candidacy. I remember that day, how the master came to the creche and picked out the weyrbrats that he thought would do the best at that hatching. Some were old, some were young, we all knew that everyone would eventually stand at least once though.
My brother was chosen, as was I, but nothing happened. I remember being terrified to just be standing there watching everything hatch. He never was scared though, not for a moment, but his dragon was not among them. Turns passed, and the events from Trelis Weyr started to circulate among the rest of Pern. A Gold that clutched new colors, then there was the kidnapping. I remember crying in fear that night when the news came in about the weyrbrats that were taken by Istanriders. My brother held me the entire time. I wasn't relieved even after news came that the Trelisriders had gotten the children back, I still worried that they would come here as well.
The new colors were starting to spread to other Weyrs as well, and firelizards and whers were affected as well. I was intrigued by them all. How could something so simple as color be such an issue? I was so naive then though, I had no idea the politics and desires for revenge that lay underneath. Then threadfall hit. That was the last time I saw my brother. It was Winter, and naturally being on the Southern Continent it wasn't cold enough to turn the thread harmless. Bay Weyr tried, and we did defend much of the coast.....but my brother who had gone out with some weyrlings to help pass off firestone was hit.
He passed away a few days later, and I cried myself to sleep for the next month. I felt numb...so numb...so empty. There was no reason for existing without my other half, and right when I was so ready to give up, something else happened. I was almost 16 turns when she came into my life. The riders had pursuaded me to finally stand once more, and this time there was what the Queen thought to be a Sub-Queen egg in the bunch. I didn't think about it though, I was there for my brother's memory, not for the eggs. I never expected what happened next.
Are you stupid girl? Why do you stand there so empty when I am here? There is much in the word...full of idiots as clueless as you, but still there is much. A war is coming, even my Amethyst sisters can tell that much. Your part is coming Eiko...your Nimarath will be by your side though...I suppose I have to be if I want to live. Oh such a bother.
I could only stare at the Obsidian before me, amazed that the gaze staring back was alight with rainbows. I think I might have feinted in the sense that I wasn't able to process what was happening...I don't remember anything past that point. After that, it was alright...sort of. Nothing too interesting happened except that people fawned over me now that I was impressed to the first Sub-Queen to be hatched at Bay Weyr. It didn't matter, soon everything would change, this time for the worst.
S'vrin, the Istanrider that had stolen the children from Trelis, and Ar'rex a rider from Southern waged war on a rebellion group that had started to form in favor of the new colors. It wasn't far off the coast where the battle took place, and the Weyrs from around Pern either stayed in their mountains hiding, or they went out to take a side. Many, using the new colors as scapegoats, went against the rebellion. Bay Weyr was one of the few that were for it, and so many died that day. As the little bits of The Rebellion that survived flocked to a secret location, the Weyrwoman sent me away to a nearby fisherhold to be taken into a safer place.
It was supposed to go to Trelis Weyr, but news that S'vrin and Ar'rex were staying there now as permanent residents made the captain reconsider. Instead, he took me to an island that I had never heard about before. Rindell Island...the new home of The Obsidian Rebellion. I've been here for a month now, learning under the Lead Obsidian. She's...interesting, and certainly not the...kindest of leaders in some respects. Her views are harsh, and I don't understand them all, but I go by them. This is a better life than what I'd be getting elsewhere I'm sure...I think."
Dragon
Name Nimarath
Pronunciation Nim-R-ath
Age 13-16 months months
Type Dragon
Rank Obsidian
Size 38.7 feet at full growth
Color Codes 4CB7A5
Appearance
The first thing that someone will notice about Nimarath, is that you can't easily focus on her unless she's asleep. The Obsidian loves to use her compulsive nature in order to turn away attention, a trait commonly found in Obsidian dragons..but usually not this much. Whenever you are able to focus on her though, you'll notice right off the bat that she's not the average Obsidian. Instead of the more stock dark silver that Obsidians tend to be seen in, she is pure black. Beyond that though, her hide is rippled with veins of teal starting at her neck and going down her legs and sides, flaring up in tendrils across her wing-sails, and striping her tail. Some say that it reminds them of moonlight on the ocean, others that it looks like lightning at night.
Her proportions are very small for an obsidian, but her abilities in the air make up for that in the long run. Expected to only get to 38.7 feet at full growth, her wings are angled and perfect for agility and doing quick turns and flips that most larger dragons can't dream of. Her limbs are elongated as well, showing a graceful arch in her neck and line for her bodies that is commonly seen in racing runnerbeasts. With how much Nimarath curls up during the day though, most people don't get a good look at her body. For the most part she just flops down on the ground and lounges there until she has to move somewhere else because she's being bothered. It's not that she's lazy, she just has nothing better to do.
Personality
To say that Nimarath doesn't care is an understatement. She honestly does, she just is too lazy to do anything about it. That's not to say that she's lazy in the "I'm not moving one claw" sort of way. Oh no, she will out-fly, out-hunt, and out-manoever her clutchmates any day of the week, mostly without an actual reason too. When it comes to anything to do with leading and doing her "rightful job as a Sub-Queen" though? You better find someone else. She hates to be called on to solve other people's problems, and if they involve her problems as well, she still will tell you to flap off.
The girl's blunt too so don't expect some sweet little ask me later comment. Nimarath will do much more than that; she will snap and assert that oh-so-wonderful control Obsidians have to make you forget, or at least ignore, that she is there in the first place. The infuriating dragon-child actually loves to do this too, it just amuses her to see the other person's reaction to find themselves talking to the air instead of a tangible object.
If you ask her to be serious about something, she won't be. And if you want honest answers, she'll be sarcastic. The only way to get an honest answer from Nimarath is to not want an honest answer, and even then she'll change her mind if she thinks you're on to her. It's all a game that she plays, one that she for once wants to play. The poor dear just gets so bored so easily, and instead of using her smarts to deal with rebellion issues, she messes with others instead.
Mind-voice (If applicable)
....really?
- Amazingly not monotone like some would think
- Slightly airy and fragile/wind through branches tone
- She has a chiming laugh that tends to echo when used
- When vocalizing out loud, she uses chirps and croons, and doesn't trumpet but shrieks *sort of like a banshee from Avatar*
