Jessee just frowned a little bit as the manliest egg of the group kind of just brushed him aside. Well then it didn't know what it was missing being with the manliest of the men in this group of candidates. He did however glance around and saw one other that seemed to be as confident as himself... without having the Topaz yell at him.. And that was Firogel, hmph what a puny little squirt of a male to he couldn't POSSIBLY be enough to satisfy one of these great and powerful Dragons.
Quickly he walked over, and as if to show that he was better, he placed his hands on the Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg with a little smile. Oh yes this one was a good manly looking one, and would appreciate having such a specimen of a human touching him right? Part of him however was slightly starting to second guess himself. Could the Dragonets actually look out of their eggs and see just what he looked like? What if they thought he was a woman and only the females wanted him?
Linda however kept back away from the eggs and just frowned and winced a little bit when of course the Topaz queen took offense to the boy. She glared at him for causing the mother so much stress... she would have to teach him a lesson later on when it was dark and nobody around... away from the eggs after all. But as she just stood there the Candidate Master showed up and also shoved her hand on the closest egg to her. Gently her hand rested on the Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg and just frowned a little bit.
Inwardly she started to hope she didn't scare or freak the little one out, her hand trembled a little bit. The memories of what happened the last touching when one of the eggs screamed badly at her touch came to surface as she slowly tried to bring her hand away. But wait no she shouldn't do that, she would just let go when it wanted to let her go. But she tried to put an apologetic emotion to the forefront of her mind... in case... in case it freaked out on her too....

i have got so much to give, i swear i do i may not have nine lives, this one feels brand new yes i've lived a good one, i have tried to be true there are some things i never realized, till i met you - - - - - - - - - - - -
D’tri sighed as he saw the candidate’s reaction, and placed a gentle hand on his dragon’s paw. You are still young, and because of this I suggest you take a little more time than just a few seconds to find an egg a dud. Now tread carefully, we will not make you leave the Hatching Sands young man, but I can Not keep her calm a second time. And with that the topaz rider turned away and walked back to his dragon. He wrapped his arms as far around Chahaturth’s muzzle as he could and sent calming feelings and thoughts to her. The large mother breathed out heavily, kicking up a small cloud of dust and sand as she did so. He let his dragon’s muzzle nose and climbed back up onto her large right foreleg, a place he not only felt rather comfortable, but safe as well. And from his vantage point, he could help Chahaturth keep an eye on all of the candidates as they touched her eggs.
Chahaturth looked up and growled softly at Avirith as she arrived. She wasn’t being particularly mean to the smaller green, she was just letting her know that she didn’t want the green on the sands, especially since she was feeling extra protective of her eggs after the last incident. D’tri gave Alyara a weak smile as she approached. Oh I’m sure, as long as Chahaturth doesn’t eat any of them. And with that he gave a little wince while Chahaturth just growled softly. The man sighed heavily and leaned back against his dragon, already feeling exhausted from his fight with her to keep her from eating the young candidate. Both of them were more than ready for this to be over, but each for a different reason. But at least things could start to get better now right?
- - - - - - - - - - - - woo woo, here I come, woo woo, back to you there ain’t no home like the one you got ‘cause that home belongs to you table © derek ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Koroniket Oh a guest? How pleasant. The Plum Cobbler Egg lightly reached out to touch Koroniket’s mind. A soft excited-ness seemed to enter the calm touch that entered the candidates mind. There was something special about this one. The Plum Cobbler Egg carefully inspected Koroniket’s mind, and slowly withdrew itself. It would have to think on this some more, come back and see the Plum Cobbler Egg again later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kyprioth The Tater Tot Casserole Egg playfully hopped into Kyprioth’s mind. Ok, it didn’t know about the whole queen thing, but thank you for the compliment anyways kind stranger person! You don’t have to be sad, the Tater Tot Casserole Egg is always willing to play with you! Though not right now, it still had to find its perfect playmate. But it was sure that Kyprioth would find his perfect playmate very soon too!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Firogel You think you would be strong with the Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg huh? Well we shall see about this. The proud bronze egg quickly pushed itself into Firogel’s mind and started inspecting him. He was a strong young man, but there was still something missing. But the egg just couldn’t put its metaphorical finger on what that was. It left his mind with just one parting look. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jessee One should never second guess themselves if they wish to lead. That was the first thing that the Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg sent to Jessee when he placed his hand on its shell. Obviously this young man did not belong to this egg, but the Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg didn’t push the young man away, at least not yet anyways. Jessee needed to learn to stop worrying about what others think and just be himself. Until then he will not be leadership material. And with that the purplish blue egg took its leave from Jessee’s mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Linda Oh why must these people torment the Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg so? Well at least this one didn’t seem as scary as some of the others, though she had plenty of things to work through before it could even muster up enough courage to try and see if this one was for it or not. So it sent Linda a quiet, soft, hesitant farewell.

Mae did not understand. It was not her who had the problems with who she was. She had made a kind of peace with this. But everyone judged her. Even these eggs.
Her eyes closed a moment, her heart contracting with her own insecurities. She tried to hide from the truth, but the truth was a beast in her face. It was hungry to consume her, to rip her... and harm her.
Her life was a scattered puzzle that as it was solved, unraveled at one end. Answers were few and far... and truth was cold and sharp...
No. Mae was strong. Soon she may not be alone. The first egg had said she was worth something. Firo could shut up and watch her succeed. How dare he doubt her... How dare the world be so dim.
Nevermore! Her head raised. This was her day. These eggs deserved her attention and no one would mess this up. Mae was strong. She was powerful!
--
Mae could see the Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg and how it hid from touches. Very calmly and determinedly she went forward, thinking cheery sweet thoughts. She hardly noticed the soft and hardly audible hum the Harper became to sing. And she caressed the shell. It was ok sweet little angel. Mae would not hurt it. Mae knew the little egg would be a magnificent dragon one day. A dragon who was flawless. You are strong. You are important. You are a dear special gift.
Please, little one, I mean you love and happiness. I will not hurt you. You are a brave little dove. A diamond that was shimmering. Mae liked this egg. It was terrified, ungrudging. Just like she felt in her heart. They were alike. Mae wanted the egg to know that....

Mae Oh no, not another one. The poor Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg could have curled into a little ball if it wasn’t already encased in a hard shell. But this one...this one was different. She was like it, and it was like her. It gently touched Mae’s mind, wondering if she really was the one that was meant for it. It wasn’t sure, and that unsure feeling caused the little violet egg to withdraw into itself to contemplate what it had found within Mae.

“Oi now, right, I fought we said we wouldn't mention that near any one else…” Kyprioth is smiling at least though it’s a bit sad. He’s still not sure if he believes J’dol, also he doesn’t want to stand for six whole turns. He’d be far too old by then he reckons. Still he shoots a grin at Kayath, he’s quite fond of the dragon and shifts himself on the hot sand till he spots an egg that looks like it could particularly use a charmer like him.
Squaring his shoulders he walks over to the Pan-roasted chicken cutlets Egg ignoring the feeling of not being wanted, surely that too was in his mind. Pretty sure he was going insane, why no one told him that egglets were this active in your head! He reached out a hand and touched the egg’s bronze color with a bit more roughness than he did the others. He doesn’t treat it like he does the little ones, and while he’s not particularly after a bronze-after all he doesn’t think of himself as ‘kingly material-he takes the time to admire the color and enjoy the feeling he thinks he’s getting from the egg never the less.
In fact it helps him turn to the topaz lording over the egglets and grin at her. ‘Don't spose yer'd let me set up a tent and camp 'ere wiv yer, pretty Lady.” It’s not a question though, he’s pretty sure he’s not allowed to do anything even like that and he goes back to his touching eyes wondering over to the apple butter pork loin egg. Maybe he’d go touch that one next it looks interesting. Hey he figures if he’s losing his mind might as well lose it with style-grab all the eggs before he goes down the short road of insanity.

Koroniket seemed quite surprised at the reaction from this egg. There was a light probe into his mind, and the unhatched dragon...didn't seem too displeased with the mind it found? There was no exhuberant approval, of course, but Koroniket could just tell it adored him. Must be a female - they all fell at his feet. He gave a little smile, petting the shell. "And I'm sure you're beautiful, missy." Not for him, though, clearly.
He turned away with one final pat, looking for something more impressive. Where would his king be...? The bronze egg was...well, it was bronze. It seemed likely enough. But perhaps it was too likely. This dragon getting business had to be more complicated than this, or everyone on Pern would rider queens and kings. So let's see...
His eyes drifted to the eggs between Chahaturth's legs. If he were a mother (ha what a funny thought) and he had precious eggs to defend, where would he put them? Up close to him, of course, where he could keep an eye on them. Leave the common greens and blues out as bait to keep people from stealing the royals. A bit mercenary, he thought, and he wasn't sure he approved of the topaz's actions - these were babies, after all! Who does that to babies? Still, if that was where the bronze was...
He headed towards the green bean casserole egg. It was close to Chahaturth; that meant it was important, right? Plus it was red. While he wanted a bronze, he supposed he could settle for a garnet; it was next best, right? He strode to the egg, laying his hand on its shell. He was instantly surprised by how...tricky the dragon felt. He raised an eyebrow, eyeing the shell with curiosity.
He found his attention drawn away, however. Being this close to the ruby red grapefruit egg, he felt its attractive aura. He gave the green bean egg one last look and then drifted away, walking to the large red egg. This one had to be something special, right? He pressed a hand to the shell.

Firo smiled smugly, at first, when the egg seemed to approve of part of him, but then there was a rather cold dismissal and the young man was left feeling a tad miffed. Clearly the egg was mistaken, Firo wasn't missing anything, he was just fine the way he was! He remained a moment longer, willing the egg to check again, but it seemed it was all for naught. Finally with a mental groan, Firogel stood and moved instead to an egg that looked almost as promising; The Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg.
Sure, his searching was not the most efficient, but it looked like a good sized egg so he figured it was worth a shot, and it was colourful so he supposed at least he'd be entertained, well maybe not, but he did feel his annoyance calm a tad as he approached it. Alright egg, don't let me be wasting my time. he thought as he placed a hand on the shell and, suddenly, he had the urge to start touching even more eggs. That was.. well that was a tad strange, he was already touching eggs why did he need to do it any more?
"Oh don't you worry Kyp, everyone's too focused on the eggs to pay much attention to some whispers." J'dol grinned at the hushed reprimand from Kyprioth. At least the man had a small smile, even if it wasn't quite as big as J'dol had been hoping for. Well, it seemed Kyp was at least willing to give more eggs a shot, so J'dol considered his little failure of a pep talk to have been successful. He grinned as Ara finally made her way over to him and began calling him on his actions.
"Terrorizing is such a strong word Ara. I much prefer to call it... sharing the love! Yes, that would work. Besides, beautiful, I don't recall you disliking it when I terrorized you." He copied her pose, though he had no tunic with which to cover himself, his face full of happiness. "You know I love it when you go all teacher mode on me." He winked, unable to stop himself from remembering the days of weyrlinghood. Oh he had been such trouble then! "The eggs will choose, they always do.

((Wrote this out before a bunch were posted, skimmed to make sure they’re not too out of place, but lemme know if I’ve done anything dumb here xD))
He was still not used to this place and all of its rules and etiquettes. As he stepped towards the dragon and her clutch, he let his grey-brown eyes scan the area, and the others. This was new to him, yet here he was along with his younger brother... He had intended to simply remain here for his work, perhaps find an adventure or two but the large blue that he had spoken to upon his arrival had promptly told him that he had to Stand. To consider himself Searched.
Well blimey. He shifted the leather hat from his head, running a hand through his sandy blonde fringe as he surveyed the area before him. His eyes fell across his younger brother who promptly toppled over in the presence of the dragon mother. Varlind rolled his eyes and moved towards Kyprioth, distracted from the eggs already. However, he was not the first to reach the young man and he watched as another took Kyprioth’s hand and rested it smoothly on the eggs. The lanky man did not stop his movements, striding towards his brother and Koroniket with a soft grumble forming in his throat. “Sure he can’t do that himself? If you...” He began, but his eyes had risen to the egg the boys were touching, and then beyond it.
“They’re stunnin’... m’lady.” As new to the place as he was, he had not yet seen a clutch of eggs, and their size and beauty were.. overwhelming. With one last, though halfhearted, glare at Koroniket, he began to move away from the boys and towards an egg that caught his eye.
He felt nervous in spite of himself. Unsure of the rules here, knowing he would have to keep the ever-in-trouble Kyprioth protected (or so he felt), and he began to instantly drift towards something calmer. He paused in front of the Plum Cobbler egg, looking towards Chahaturth as he crouched down in front of it. “If I may, uh... your graciousness?” What the hell did you call dragons, anyway? Slowly, he reached out a hand and pressed it softly to the side of the brown-and-orange egg.
He only vaguely registered someone call out slyly to his younger brother, but hadn’t the forethought to respond.

Chahaturth turned her large topaz head around to look as yet another candidate showed themselves, he was late, but at least he had shown up, now just to make sure that he didn’t cause any problems. She crooned slightly at Varlind’s comment about her eggs. Of course they were stunning, they were Her eggs after all. She gave a slight nod of her large muzzle to the young man before turning it to look at the candidate that had nearly squished one of her eggs earlier. At least he hadn’t caused any other problems since then. She snorted at Kyprioth’s question. Why on Pern would she ever let someone that had nearly squashed one of her precious eggs camp near them!? You can tell him that as long as he stays far enough away to not harm my eggs then he may camp wherever he pleases. D’tri just chuckled softly and patted the topaz’s chest.
She says that as long as you stay far enough away to not harm any eggs that you may camp near the sands. There was a soft smile on D’tri’s face as he spoke. So his topaz had calmed down a lot since she had first hatched. The young topaz rider really was proud of his topaz dragon, and he really did love her. Chahaturth turned her head just enough to look at her rider and crooned affectionately at him. That was all that was needed for the two of them to know that the feelings were mutual. So Ara, you are gonna teach the candidates how to behave themselves during the hatching right? A worried expression crossed his face as he spoke to the green rider. One of them had almost gotten themselves eaten already, which made him worried about what might just happen during the actual hatching.
- - - - - - - - - - - - woo woo, here I come, woo woo, back to you there ain’t no home like the one you got ‘cause that home belongs to you table © derek ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kyprioth Yet another individual who thought they were good enough for the Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg. Wait...there was something different about this one. Something that none of the others had seemed to possess. The essence of the Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg seemed to be gently scouring Kyprioth’s mind for something, what that something was...well...who’s to say what an egg wants? After couple minutes of this constant scouring the bronze egg withdrew itself from the candidates mind to contemplate what it had found. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Koroniket Ooooo another victim...er visitor! Carefully, the Green Bean Casserole Egg tried to sneak its way into Koroniket’s mind, leaving behind a sticky trail of mischievous feelings. Well, there was just something not right about this one. The Green Bean Casserole Egg Sent the candidate some soft apologetic feelings as it withdrew from his mind to await yet another victim. Oh how wonderful it is to have admirers. The Ruby Red Grapefruit Egg was quite content that people were braving its mother’s claws and teeth come and visit it. The large red egg quickly started its search of Koroniket’s mind, looking for something that might spark its interest. This young man was rather interesting, but the Ruby Red Grapefruit Egg wasn’t sure about how it felt about how highly he valued himself. The large egg withdrew from the candidates mind to contemplate everything it had found. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Firogel Hmmmm someone else has come to touch the Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg huh? Shouldn’t they be working instead of wasting the day away touching eggs? Wait...this one...this one was different from the others that had touched its purple shell. This one seemed to be more willing to work than the others. Well good for you, you will have to come visit the Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg again so that you can share working advice with it. And with that parting sentiment the purple and reddish-orange egg withdrew from Firogel’s mind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Varlind Ahhhh isn’t it such a pleasant day young man? The Plum Cobbler Egg calmly greeted Varlind when the candidate pressed his hand to its brown and orange shell, in no hurry to get about the business that eggs normally do when they are touched. Though soon enough the medium-sized egg entered the young man’s mind and looked around calmly. This one should learn to relax a little more, then he should come visit the Plum Cobbler Egg again.
