Chahaturth panted and groaned as yet another egg fell from her to the hot sands. She had been pacing around in large circles for the past hour before her eggs finally decided that they were ready to be clutched. She had worn a rather large rut in the ground where six eggs had already been laid. She hissed as yet another egg was laid on the hot sands. She screamed out, both out loud and silently in her rider’s mind as the last egg was laid. D’tri screamed and covered his ears as Chahaturth screamed out. The entire time Chahaturth had been on the sands D’tri had sat on his bed his kneels pulled up against his chin, his arms wrapped around his legs, silent tears falling from his eyes as he squinted against the pain he received over the mental bond that he shared with his topaz dragoness.
Chahaturth hadn’t planned on waking anyone up, except maybe her rider. But then again, she hadn’t expected to feel so much pain either from her small clutch of eight eggs either. But it was over now, it was finally over. She groaned tiredly as she lay down and arranged her little clutch around her. She laid her large head down on her large front paws, careful not to harm the eggs that were resting between them. She was finally finished, the next generation of dragons had been laid; the hardest part of her job was now finished. She sighed and gently touched her rider’s mind before falling into a restful sleep. D’tri was still rocking himself on his bed, but at least now the pain was gone. She did it...she actually did it. There was a proud smile on his face as he spoke.
- - - - - - - - - - - - woo woo, here I come, woo woo, back to you there ain’t no home like the one you got ‘cause that home belongs to you table © derek ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chahaturth's Eggs
Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg: It is very obvious as to what is inside of the Pan-Roasted Chicken Cutlets Egg. After all it is a typical bronze in color and is at the very edge of the clutch and appears as though it is guarding all of the other eggs. Those that walk past this egg get a wary feeling, as though whatever is inside of the egg doesn’t want them to get too close. But those that are brave enough to actually touch this egg get the feeling of great pride and accomplishment. As though the dragon hidden under the bronze shell is proud that they were brave enough to take the chance and touch its shell.
Apple Butter Pork Loin Egg: The Apple Butter Pork Loin egg is a kind of purplish blue egg with a few splotches of a redish orange coloring all over its smooth shell. This mid-sized egg sits near the middle of the clutch, and tends to give of a gentle calming feeling to any and all that walk past this egg. When a person touches this speckled egg though, they get the sudden urge to do something. It is almost as though whatever is inside of this egg wants the person touching it to get to work and stop being lazy, no matter how hard working they are.
Ruby Red Grapefruit Egg: This very large egg is a ruby red in color, with pale pink heart shaped spots all over it. It is a very smooth egg, and the feeling that a person gets from touching this egg is one of a calm, protectiveness. It is almost as though the inhabitant is more than willing to protect everyone that nears it. Whenever anyone walks by this ruby red egg they feel a kind of pull coming from it, as if it is trying to get you to come near it. This isn't always the best idea since it sits close to Chahaturth's large front paws.
Green Bean Casserole Egg: The Green Bean Casserole Egg is a very dark red, with a light brown circle around the top and bottom of the egg. It also has very pale yellow vertical stripes down the sides. When people walk past this egg, they feel as though it was trying to reach out, and trip them. A real sense of mischief seems to come off this egg in waves. Yet whenever someone touches it, they feel a sense of quiet forgiveness, as if the egg was trying to say sorry for being so mischievous.
Plum Cobbler Egg: The feeling you get when you approach this egg is a gentle calmness. As if the inhabitant is in no hurry to be free. This egg is medium in size, and seems to be quite content to sit among the smaller eggs. It kinda looks as though the Plum Cobbler egg is protecting, and guiding the smaller eggs. This medium sized brown egg has lighter green and orange polka-dots all over the egg that kinda give it a friendly look. When a person touches this egg they feel a calmness envelop them. It isn't sudden, but gradual, and it seems to make a person relax.
Tater Tot Casserole Egg: The Tater Tot Casserole Egg is a soft off-white, with dark brown rings all around the egg. The rings start at the top of the egg, and circle down to the bottom. When people approach the egg, they feel a slight playfulness coming from the egg. It is almost as though it wants to just run around and have a good time. Yet whenever people touch it, they feel like the egg is trying hold them there, and doesn't want them to leave.
Fig and Blue Cheese Tart Egg: The Fig and Blue Cheese Tart Egg is an extremely dark grey that looks almost black in color with dark yellow zig-zaging lines all over it. The feeling that people get when they walk by this egg is that it is actually trying to blend into the shadows. It sits away from the rest of the clutch, and seems to be hiding from everything and everyone. People that touch this egg feel as though the creature in side of it is trying to hide from one's touch.
Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg: The Blackberry Cheese Pie Egg is the third smallest egg of the clutch and seems to be hiding behind all of the others because it sits almost hidden by Chahaturth’s side and the other eggs. It seems to go pretty much unnoticed by just about everyone and everything, which seems to suit this egg just fine. But whenever it is noticed, and someone does touch its solid violet shell, they get the feeling that whatever might be inside the shell is either hiding from their touch, or there is nothing there at all. But if a person is persistent enough in keeping their hand on the violet shell they will eventually feel a slight, hesitant greeting.

Mae sat striaght up in her bed, chest heaving and eyes wide. Screaming... Dragon screaming!
She could hear the pain in every note, almost feel the hurt. Anybody besides Mae likely would have turned over and covered their head with a pillow, but she would do no such thing.
The young harper jumped from the sheets, leaving the bed an un-made mess, and threw on a tunic, pants and boots. She did nothing to her boyish hair, mind you.
Pip let out a sleepy meow, yawning lazily. "I'll be back later Pip, be a good guard kitty." Merrow?
Mae disappeared out of the room without a second look at her kitten, who blinked her different colored eyes confusedly.
---
Mae was very careful when slipping onto the stands. The screams had stopped now, meaning the mother was done and no doubt asleep. The brown headed girl leaned over the rail as far as she could to look at the glistening eggs. Her heart was beating wildly in her chest, every limb shaking from the dizzying excitment. Eight beautiful eggs sat on the sands. And she was first to spy them.
With beaten hope, Mae fancied one as her possible lifemate, knowing very well she may not ever Impress. But... she could hope. And she smiled. Yes, she would hope. Nobody would stop her, not Firogel- Her lips frowned. Most certainly NOT Firogel. Mae's face reddened with anger. She wished she'd not run off and had slapped or hurt him somehow instead. No wonder a dragon never picked him. He was too selfish--
Mae stopped herself. This was a happy time, not time for such rage. Firogel would get what would no doubt come to him sooner or later. No doubt.
Mae hummed a very soft song, as if to lull the eggs or the Topaz mother into a peaceful sleep. Yes, this was a time for hope.

Firogel knew a thing or two about mother dragons, namely that you didn't disturb them right after they clutched, especially in the middle of the night. As it was, he had come only to peek his head in and see if all the screaming meant she had laid her eggs. Sure seemed like it anyways, though from where he stood he couldn't make out the number of eggs hidden under her. He was about to turn around and leave when he heard something that sounded like humming and noticed movement in the stands. It was that sharding waste of space girl! "Psst! Idiot!" He called out in a hushed whisper, trying to get her attention. "Get out here!" As much as he didn't want to speak with her at all, he'd rather deal with mae than a very angry dragoness. Besides, maybe if he was lucky he'd make her cry again. Bolstered by the notion, he waved her over again.

Mae heard someone else, and whirled around. Oh great! Speak of the bastard devil!
Mae's eyes narrowed, her hum cut short. Who did this boy think he was? Thinking he could jibber and jab and stick his fat nose whereever he pleased?
"I can see why you have yet to Impress. Saying anything nice would kill you. Dragons don't want to bond to misogamists."
Mae's voice was cold and low, careful not to disrupt the topaz. Oh how she'd love to give Firo a good sock, or... hit him where it hurts. That would be a low blow, but she would like to see him hurt. But Mae was not like that. No, she was better and more mature than him. Firo spent his time hating everyone for whatever sore ass reason he had. Mae knew one day he'd get his punishment, whether it was in afterlife or delivered by her.
"You can't get enough of me can you? You seem to follow me like a sick little puppy. Is poor little Firogel lonely?" Ok, so maybe Mae had an immature comment or two. She sneered, face looking hardened. If he thought she was going to cry again, he'd better be prepared. If anyone was to cry, it sure as Hell would not be her.

Oh Faranth, it seemed she had found a backbone since their last meeting. Firogel groaned to himself as she attempted to insult him. Ha! As if a puny little girl could actually hurt his feelings. He nodded his head, a serious, thoughtful expression on his face.
"You know, you are absolutely right. How did a pretty girl like you become such a guru of the minds of hatchlings?" His sickengly sweet voice was, of course, entirely sarcastic, and even though he was speaking in hushed tones it would probably be obvious. Then again, he doubted Mae understood sarcasm, or even knew what it was. She was just a silly young girl after all, they couldn't be expected to know much. He snorted to himself as she dared suggest that he would want her for company. Well, he supposed he could just call her an idiot and leave, but he'd be damned if he left before watching her cry.
"Oh yes, terribly lonely. I thought I'd come find you, since you are the epitome of love and warmth. Oh lovely lady, do come over here and give your favourite puppy a belly rub. Its what you want to do, isn't it?" He sneered then, "To run your hands all over me. I wouldn't be surprised if you are nothing more than a little pervert." Where she got her following comment though.. that one did confuse him. He hadn't seen her since the first time she cried because of him... well unless he passed her in the corridors, he supposed, though if he did he hadnt noticed. "Oh I get it, you want me to follow you around don't you?"

They were not the only ones who had noticed the Topaz start to lay her eggs, Linda wasn't able to sleep because of yet another nightmare from the last hatching. But it was good for her as Hana started to croon softly and hum as well. It confused Linda a bit, there were no eggs around she knew of ready to be hatched but there was that one topaz getting ready to.... Almost immediately she took stock of her supplies in her pouches before she ran out of the candidates quarters towards the hatching grounds. She wasn't the first though as she noticed Firo was there and he was tormenting... an other girl....
Linda just smirked as she walked up behind Firo to try to drap her arms around his shoulders in hopes of freaking him out. "Awwwww if you wanted to play you should have told me...." But she tried to move away with a grin to hopefully not get attacked by him but turned towards Mae. "Don't mind Firo, but anyways did the mother allow you inside the cavern and up there? If she didn't well... I am a healer but I can only heal so much...."

The clear sounds of distress from the Sands didn't seem to bother R'sren at all - he was already awake and busy, his hands occupied with a knife and bit of wood, whittling to have something to do. Moryth, however, was far less comfortable with such noises; he paced back and forth on his side of their weyr, wings brushing the walls with each turn. Finally, he stopped. He knew, of course, what was happening. It was just that the topaz was clutching. That's all that was happening. He told himself that several more times. It didn't calm him, though. It sounded violent and that had him on edge and-
"Just go look, already. Hard enough to turn a dead tree into a dragon without you blustering all over." R'sren didn't think "blustering" was the right word, and from the disapproval he felt from Moryth, could tell that the dragon didn't approve either. But he didn't care, and it got the ebony to shut up, at least.
Moryth stood still a few more seconds then gave a decisive nod and walked to the edge of his weyr. He launched himself from the ledge, flying swiftly towards the hatching grounds. He swooped in low, landing silently on a ledge near the sands. He dipped his head, a polite bow to the topaz in case she was not entirely asleep. Then he considered the eggs. Eight of them, and they seemed well-formed. He was no expert on eggs, of course, having simply come out of one, but...to him they looked nice.
What was less nice was the vibe coming from those three humans. He darted his gaze between them and the eggs and sleeping topaz. Curling his tail around his feet, he sent a gentle nudge in the direction of the three minds, sure they would sense the edge of caution there. If not, they should get the message when they saw a black shape glaring at them, eyes gleaming yellow and orange.

Firogel was a proud young man, and he considered himself to be, overall, an observant fellow. Apparently he didn't quite live up to his own expectations, as his attention was so focused on Mae that he didn't notice Linda come up behind him. It could have been because she moved with a natural grace and stealth, but far be it for Firo to actually admit that she had any skill in anything. So it was, that due to his bout of tunnel-vision, the arm Linda draped over his shoulder actually caused him to jump before he spun around in fear that he had been caught by someone important. Upon realizing it was Linda however, he shot out his arm to wrap around her waist and pull her back before she could move away.
"Didn't you know my weyr is always open for some playtime with you Linny," He smirked at her as he spoke, having leaned in close so he could whisper in her ear. After all, for all the trouble Firo was likely causing in his 'talk' with Mae, he actually had no intention of waking up Chahaturth; the last thing he needed was an angry dragoness trying to rip his limbs off after all. "Oh hush, idiot, I'm actually being the good guy here. I was trying to save her life but the girl is a dimglow and didn't want to listen. Her aside, oh troublesome one, you have a 'date' with me tonight. That thing is ready." He paused and glanced about the hatching sands, trying to figure out if it was the topaz, or someone else who had sent the feeling through him, and soon enough he spotted the black figure.
"I'm no coward, but I don't think we'll be allowed to stay here too much longer." He mumbled more to himself than anyone, though no doubt Linda could probably hear him. Firogel may have been a complete and utter twat at times, but he had a healthy respect for dragons, and he knew that orange eyes were never a good sign.

Now that was hilarious, Linda just smirked a little bit when he had jumped and spun around to face her. It was just priceless, she wasn't expecting THAT much of a freak out from him. She had actually thought he would have noticed she was coming at least a little bit but nope... He just was not a match for her apparently and that just made her feel all smuggly warm inside. At least she wasn't really getting that rusty while living in this Weyr, which made her a little proud of herself too. All from just trying to freak out Firo, oh dear maybe she was overreacting a little bit. But nope Firo reached out and held her close to him before starting to be an arse again.
Linda rolled her eyes and smirked back at him. "Uh huh.... always open yet your here huh? making me all lonely?" Her voice slightly held a bit of sarcasm as she tried to feign as best as she could. What could she do to him while he was this close, it was a rare opportunity at best of course... But what would do well enough that it wouldn't bother the mother too much? Maybe something that didn't let him scream out but the only thing she could think of was... But wasn't that too bad to do to someone unless in an emergency? Nah this was Firo it was of course allowed.
Linda just kind of smirked as he mentioned he was the good guy here, whenever he tried to be "good" he tended to be even worse. But a date with him tonight? thing? Oh yeah that one dress, she just frowned a little bit before she spoke up "Oh yes not tonight though would probably have to be tomorrow. You open then hmmm?" But now Linda frowned, he still wasn't letting go so to make sure he did... Her knee went right up towards his crotch, she tried to not do it too hard though because it might make him have to go to the infirmary. Knowing her luck she would be stuck on duty and she didn't really want to be... With that done she wiggled away from him with a smirk and placed her hands on her hips.

Loathe as he was to admit it, her words did send the briefest shiver down his side and he was left giving her a curious look. Either she didn't realize what she was saying, or she was finally learning a thing or two about how to use words. Well, he was teaching her out of the kindness of his heart, so obviously she had decided he was worth listening to and had improved just for him. Yes, surely that was it.
"Well aren't you the little tease," Firogel smirked, his voice having a bit of a purr to it as he spoke. Really, she was going to be the death of him. "Here I thought you could sneak into a weyr like it was nothing... I suppose I overestimated you. I would have returned you know. It would have been such a pleasant surprise to find you waiting and willing for some fun." Oh he was going to get himself hit for that. Perhaps he'd even be lucky and Linda would be the one to wake up momma dragon, wouldn't that be the icing on the cake. He pondered his availability for the next day.
"Gotta move my things back to the barracks now, so come look for me there." He added with an offhand wave. In the end he was tired, and now with the efforts of packing up the necessities and moving to the barracks he really didn't have the energy to deal with her dress tonight. Yes, tomorrow would certainly be a better idea. he wasn't paying her much attention aside from speech, so her tactic for escaping his grasp caught him completely off guard. Firo bit his lip to keep from crying out, though a quiet squeak did escape him, and, likely to her annoyance, buried his face into her shoulder as his legs threatened to buckle. She wiggled out of hsi weak grasp though, and instead he leaned against the wall.
"Th-that was cold... stupid wench." He grimaced, clutching at himself as if that would somehow alleviate the pain. Groaning, he leveled a glare at her. He would need payback for that.

It was dark on the dark, hot, hatching sands, but one thing was clearly visible. Swirling red eyes glared angrily at the young humans in the stands. The air seemed to shake with a loud growling that was coming from the large topaz form curled protectively around her eggs. If you little pests can’t learn to keep your noises down I suggest you leave my sands! Chahaturth’s voice was a hiss as she spoke to the three humans. She turned her head and softly crooned to the ebony that had come to check on her, at least he seemed to have some manners that these humans were severely lacking in her opinion. She turned her head a little further to look down at the eight eggs that she had clutched, and crooned to each of them. She was so very proud of herself. That’s when she remembered the sire of the wonderful eggs she was now curled around, and wondered if he would come visit her soon. Hopefully he would bring a tasty treat for her too. Otherwise she might just have to settle for the noisy humans that had woken her.

S'bel didn't entirely wake up until his dragon shoved him from his bed and onto the floor. The rider yelled, and flailed wildly for the half a second before he hit the cold stone floor of his personal weyr. "Stupid, wherry-brained---!"
My children! Maerath bugled. She is clutching!
Without another word, the bronze shot from the weyr like an arrow, away across the Weyr, toward the ocean. S'bel's eyes narrowed. Shouldn't he be going toward the eggs, not away? He reached for his dragon's mind, but Maerath either didn't want him there, or was too concentrated to notice. S'bel shrugged, and pulled on a clean tunic before shoving his feet into a pair of soft-soled boots.
Padding down to D'tri's weyr, he knocked lightly before letting himself in. "D'tri...?" He whispered. He had heard about the pain of clutching mothers, and the man winced as he saw tears on the topaz rider's face. Sitting lightly on the bed next to the other man, he raised a cautious hand to gently brush away a tear from D'tri's face. "It's alright, I'm here now," he murmured.
Maerath dove, claws extended, and plunged into the water of the ocean. When he emerged, hide shining from the droplets of water still clinging to him, a large fish was clutched in his talons. Bugling his success, he turned and headed back to the Weyr, and his Queen. When he reached her, there was an ebony keeping her company, and... humans! His eyes swirled red, but he greeted Chahaturth first.
My beautiful Queen. I have brought you the bounty of my hunt, a great fish from the sea.
Setting it in front of her, he winged back to a large ledge, where he perched, folding his wings before settling down. Turning his eyes that were steadily growing more red to the humans, he roared. I suggest you heed her warning, humans! My Queen is not to be disturbed! Flaring his wings, he roared again, to show them that he really did mean business!

Who knew a clutching female could scream so loud! Aridani slipped out of bed quietly, trying her best not to wake her roommates. She could see the worried eyes of her amethyst watching her move, and sent a silent thought to Simenath that everything would be alright. {You're going to see him, your love, right?} The voice was more tired than worried, but mostly Simenath just worried that they were breaking a rule of some sort.
Quietly, rider and dragon rejoined outside and a quick flight was all it took to land on D'tri's weyrledge. The amethyst crooned down quietly at Simenath, in awe of the clutch, while Aridani dismounted and stepped into the weyr. She had no voice with which to announce her presence, so instead had to rely on Harmony to chirp and squeak and call out to D'tri.
Aridani couldn't say for sure what she had expected to find, but another person in D'tri's room was certainly not it. Well.. the screams from Chahaturth had been loud enough to wake her in the barracks, so perhaps this man had just come to check up on him? What a kind man! {Hello StrangeMan and AriMine'sLove! AriMine has come to see you.} As always Simenath spoke for her rider, speaking for both D'tri and S'bel to hear.

Linda didn't really listen to what Firo had to say, he was just trying to rile her up while saying she should show up and take care of that dress. But finally it seemed her knee did the trick and she got out of his hold. A smirk spread across her face and she just winked at Firo before she started to look around at the other people who showed up... An ebony rider? They were slightly common weren't they... but she didn't have much time to notice or figure things out as the mother Topaz started to snap at them. Linda just frowned, she should have stayed away and just watched from afar to help only when needed. Though it seemed the sire of the clutch brought her some food which would help to calm her only to warn them as well.
Taking a very deep bow towards the two, Linda started to speak up softly. "I am very sorry for the disturbance Great Topaz, I will take my leave then. But if you need a healer at all you can call upon me and I will do my best to assist you." With that she gave a respectful nod of her head towards the other Dragon's present before she started to leave the hatching grounds.

D’tri looked over as he felt someone sit on the bed next to him. A small half-smile appeared on his lips as S’bel wiped a tear from his face. Then a familiar voice entered his mind and he turned to see Aridani joining him as well. Hello my little Harper, and thank you for bringing her to me Simenath. He held out his hands for Aridani to join him and S’bel on the bed. This is S’bel Aridani, his bronze is the one that won Chahaturth’s flight. He was obviously not in the right mind right now, to tell the truth, neither of them should be surprised that he was half crazy at the moment with the amount of pain his dragon had shared with him. That was definitely not something anyone could have prepared him for, though he wished someone had tried at least.
Chahaturth glaringly watched as the candidates left the stands, glad that her King had joined her in chasing them away. Thank you my King. It is a lovely fish. She crooned as she began eating the fish that Maerath had brought her. Now that those annoying pests are gone you can properly admire our children. A proud croon escaped her bloody lips as she turned from the fish to look lovingly at the clutch of eight eggs that were now arranged by her side. She looked up at where her bronze was now perched trilled at him happily before turning back to her fishy meal. She contentedly growled softly as she tore apart the fish with her strong jaws, spilling blood and other more, uninteresting parts of the fish on the hot sands where they were basically cooked with a satisfying sizzling noise. If dragons could smile with sheer joy, well she would be smiling from ear to ear as the saying goes.
