D’tri groaned slightly as he shifted under the sheets, his arm was tingling in a very uncomfortable way. Finally he decided that he might as well get up and see what the issue was. He sighed as he started to struggle to free himself from the tangle of sheets that seemed to surround him. He rolled over slightly and felt something warm and hard behind him. At first he didn’t understand what he was feeling. It wasn’t until he freed himself half-way from the sheets that he realized that there was a man in his bed, a rather attractive one at that. For the moment he had forgotten about his tingling arm, that is, until he tried to move it. He hissed in pain and clutched at his arm as all at once the previous night’s events came flooding back to the forefront of his mind, which only made him groan and lay back down.
Chahaturth growled slightly as her rider’s thoughts started to intrude upon the peace that was her sleep. She wasn’t ready to get up yet and she sure as Faranth didn’t want to deal with a whiny rider. She attempted to cuddle up closer to Maerath before sighing softly and relaxing once more. Her wing was still dripping green ichor but it wasn’t as bad as it had been as the bronze king had helped her back to the Weyr. It was currently extended slightly away from the large body of her bronze. Hmmm, yes that sounded nice to her. She crooned softly and partially opened one swirling eye to gaze at the large form of Maerath. Just as Her’s had woken up next to the large male’s rider, she had woken up next to him, just without the confusion and entrapment the man’s sheets had caused.

S'bel had experienced many flights in his day, though in the past few turns his bronze dragon Maerath had lost all of the flights he had participated in. The rider chalked it up to sheer bad luck, since he had simply been doing his duty. Each time his dragon flew for duty, he lost, and so did S'bel. He lost Alyara to duty. Lost Iirla to love. And now, when he finally decided that he could let his dragon fly for duty, but still love R'vin... his dragon won.
It was a rather large surprise to the bronze rider, then, when he heard a groan from beside him, and found himself in a bed that was not his own. Thankfully, his brain engaged quickly, and the events of the previous night and early morning returned to him. D'tri. He thought to himself. I'm in bed with D'tri. Duty never seemed so fine! After all... it was his duty to chase and catch Queen and Sub-Queen riders, and D'tri was certainly a good looking man. As D'tri hissed in pain, S'bel sat up.
"That'll be the Wing, then, I suppose," he murmured, gently shifting so he was a bit further away from the other man. He didn't exactly know how the Topaz rider was going to react, and he wanted to be able to move quickly should the reaction be violence. "If I may?" Gently brushing back a lock of D'tri's hair, he inspected the arm carefully before softly resting a large calloused hand on the muscle. He knew he wouldn't be able to do anything, considering the wound was Chahaturth's, not D'tri's, but he could at least be concerned, right? "How is she?" He asked quietly.
Maerath, it seemed, did not want to wait for D'tri's answer. She is injured, but fine. She is with me. Did you expect any less? The bronze raised his head regally, before he laid it back down, curling slightly around Chahaturth. She would need to see a dragonhealer, no doubt, but... that could wait. S'bel winced. "Maerath says she's okay, but she'll need to see a healer... if Maerath and Chahaturth will consent, of course. I don't believe he's likely to move any time soon. You... probably shouldn't either, if your arm hurts. I... apologize, if any of that is... my fault." He winced again.

This had been Chahaturth’s first flight, and in turn, D’tri’s. No matter what anyone had told him, or had tried to teach him, would have prepared him for anything that had happened last night. He turned his head just enough to watch S’bel as he sat up. The topaz rider nodded his head and smiled at the bronze rider. Sorry to have woken you S’bel. His voice was soft, so as not to anger his injured topaz lest she harm herself even more. Since everyone was pretty much awake he decided he might as well sit up and get moving. He felt himself start to blush a little when he felt S’bel’s hand brushing some of his hair back before resting his large hand on his arm. He knew that S’bel meant well, but until Chahaturth was seen by a healer the pain in his arm wouldn’t get any better.
Chahaturth snorted at S’bel’s question and crooned at Maerath’s answer. I will see a healer later, do not worry about my wing. It will be fine. I have my King to keep me safe until then. She yawned, shook her head slightly, and then rested her head back down again. She knew she would need a healer, but that could wait till later. For now she was more than content to stay right where she was at by Maerath, and was soon resting peacefully once again. D’tri just chuckled and smiled as S’bel winced. She says she will see a healer later, but she has her King to keep her safe till then. He smiled fondly across the bottom of the bed at his large dragoness. Oh no don’t worry. It’s not your fault S’bel. He felt the heat rise in his cheeks as he spoke and tried not to let it show.

To be honest, S'bel had no idea that it had been Chahaturth's first flight, and thus D'tri's. He probably should have known, or suspected, given the dragon's age and colour, but he hadn't really been concentrating on that. He hadn't even really had time to react to D'tri being back at Trelis Weyr before his topaz had risen, Maerath had chased, and they had won. It was an odd thing, really. S'bel wondered briefly why D'tri had come back, but thought better of asking.
The bronze rider noticed D'tri watching him, and he smiled in return. "You didn't wake me, D'tri. I was already awake." Or at least part way. D'tri sat up, and blushed at S'bel's touch. S'bel was no maiden, and no stranger to flights, and what happened during or after, but he felt heat in his own cheeks, and looked away in shame. How long had it been since he had felt a blush rise on his face? Years and years. He drew his hand away quickly.
Maerath thrummed at his Queen's pleasurable croon, and curled a bit tighter around her, being careful of her injured wing all the while. Our children will be marvelous. The bronze told Chahaturth with another thrum. Strong, like me. Beautiful, like you. Resting his head back down next to hers, Maerath let himself rest, completely content. S'bel did not look at D'tri until he spoke again. "I know it's not, but..." He shook his head. "I'm sorry anyway."

Then again, he was almost positive that the entire Weyr had been pretty much unprepared for the young topaz to rise for the first time. To be brutally honest the topaz’s rider hadn’t even been ready for his own dragon to rise when she had. That’s good, I didn’t want to wake you when you seemed to be sleeping so peacefully. He tilted his head to the side slightly as he watched S’bel blush and look away, then the man took his hand away rather quickly, and D’tri wondered if he had done something to upset the other rider. He couldn’t help but smile at S’bel’s apology. I’m fine really, you don’t have to apologize for anything S’bel. I mean it. He reached out to lay a hand on the bronze rider’s hand as he spoke, smiling broadly all the while.
Chahaturth sighed contentedly when she felt Maerath thrum and curl himself tighter around her. Yes, they will be the best the Weyr has ever seen. She crooned proudly as she let herself relax into her bronze king’s large side. She could already see her children exceling where all the other clutches had failed. Obviously this was just a wistful mother’s dreams but no one could blame her for believing that her children would be the best, especially since they had been sired by the king of kings, bronze of bronze. They had been sired by Maerath, the bronze King of topaz Chahaturth. Now how many clutches could make that boast? None as far as Chahaturth knew, which she believed would give her eggs a better start in life. D’tri couldn’t help but laugh outright at the thoughts and images he was getting from his dragon.
