Hirion had always enjoyed a good Gather, with everything there was to see and do, but she had to admit she was a little preoccupied with her thoughts at this one. She wandered among some of the stalls, checking what was for sale, but not really looking to buy anything.
She was thinking about the Games and how she and Ferrth placed in them, and how it would affect their wing assignment, and there was still the fallout to deal with from the battle against the rebellion...She wasn't entirely sure what to think about the Obsidian Rebellion, actually. From what she had heard about them, she wasn't exactly wild about their plans, but she couldn't help thinking there was more to it than what she had been officially told. She looked around her, wondering if some of the people she was passing by even now might be secret members of the rebellion, or sympathetic spies from the Weyr.
Eh, don't think about that now, Ferrth advised her from his perch outside the gather grounds. Just take the time to enjoy yourself.
The twenty-turn-old smiled at her dragon's words, and tried to take them to heart. She glanced around her, keeping an eye out for familiar faces, but otherwise didn't pay much attention to which direction she was going.

Hirion wasn't the only one with a lot on her mind. Yufa too had spent the better part of that day thinking about not only the Games and future wings, but also about the Rebellion. She may not have been a completely member of the Rebellion, but she and Braymoth had a role to fill at all times. Recruiters, spies, whatever Noita needed them to do, Yufa and Braymoth would do their best to comply.
With how many rebels there are hiding amongst the crowd, I'm sure we can get away with a break. I don't feel like looking anymore today. Yufa sighed, looking up at the sky where Braymoth circled, lazily watching his rider travel around to the different stalls.
It only took a moment to look up at her dragon, but that brief moment was all it took for Yufa to stumble into some poor unsuspecting shopper; a weyrling like herself, soon to graduate as well.
"O-oh my! I am so sorry." The garnetweyrling dipped her head low, "Please accept my humblest apologies."

Hirion was startled back into paying attention to her surroundings by someone bumping into her. She only stumbled slightly, and she turned around to see who it was with a friendly smile on her face. It was perhaps an odd way to meet someone, but Hirion's extroverted nature ensured that she rarely resented the chance to meet someone new. She recognized the other girl as a fellow weyrling, though one from a different clutch and therefore not very familiar to her.
"Oh, it's alright. No harm done," Hirion waved off her apology casually. The weyrling was certainly polite, more so than Hirion for sure, and she got the feeling the other girl was Hold-raised just from her manner. "You're graduating soon too, right? Nervous?" Hirion asked lightly. She certainly was, even if she wouldn't admit it.

"Oh thank Faranth," Relief washed over her features as Hirion waved her off, though she was mildly embarassed at having bumped into the other woman at all. Oh yes, and just standing there like an idiot when she asked you a question is so much less embarassing. Yufa jumped in surprise as she realized she hadn't answered yes.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, I do hope to graduate and join the wings soon." She smiled softly, "I... I suppose I am a little nervous. It's to be expected though, isn't it... to go from Weyrling to Rider I mean. Are you nervous?" She brushed out a wrinkle in her dress and noticed Braymoth swerve off to land somewhere outside the gather stalls. "Oh, how rude of me, I haven't introduced myself. I am Yufa, of Garnet Braymoth."

Hirion gave a confident smirk. "Me? Nah, not at all." This was, of course, a blatant lie, and she just hoped it wasn't too obvious on her face. It was still nice to know she wasn't alone in it, though.
Ferrth tsked disapprovingly in the back of her mind. You've been so self-conscious lately. Get over it.
Shut up, you, she replied good-naturedly.
She glanced up after Yufa introduced herself and noticed the garnet dragon overhead; she assumed that was Yufa's Braymoth. "Nice. I'm Hirion," she said with an outstretched hand. "My dragon is Blue Ferrth. Pleased to meet you."

"I'm envious. To be so confident before the graduation... You and Ferrth must be an excellent pair." Yufa tended to avoid outright eye contact, so she missed the fact that Hirion was lying. She was simply impressed that a woman could have such outward confidence.
"If I may be so bold as to ask," the weyrling paused, hoping she wasn't being too nosy, "Do you know which wing you're aiming for?" She felt an amused chuckle from Braymoth through their link. Well aren't you the bold one today. I'll beat her blue and get the better wing anyways, so why does it matter?. Yufa sighed inwardly. You could use a lesson in modesty Braymoth.

Hirion grinned, pleased at Yufa's comment, and ignored Ferrth's mental snort. "Oh, we do alright. I'd kind of prefer to get in the high-level wing, actually; it's dangerous, but I don't mind that. But I suppose any wing would do. The way I figure it, there'll be plenty of places to be filled in all the wings, with people leaving for the rebellion and so many of us disappearing during the training for between."
She regarded Yufa curiously. "What about you? Hoping to become a wingsecond or third someday, or would you be happy just being a wingrider?"

"Oh my, you definately are brave. I think I would prefer the lower wings..." It wasn't necessarily that she was afraid of the dangers of the high wing. She actually dreamt of being a dragonhealer and being able to help the injured pairs. Braymoth wanted the high wing though, so the topic never went over well. Yufa jumped at the mention of the Rebellion. Had they been found out? Idiot. You should figure out her stance.
"What do you... think of the Rebellion... if you don't mind me prying?" She asked rather timidly. She was used to leaving this part up to her more confident garnet. She couldn't rely on him forever. "Oh.. I could never think of such a position, I'm.. I'm not worthy of such an honour. To just be a wingrider is more than I could ever hope for."

Hirion noticed the way Yufa jumped at the mention of the Rebellion, and she looked away when she realized she was staring at the garnetrider oddly. Was she just naturally nervous about it, or was there something going on with the other weyrling?
She only met Yufa's gaze again when she asked Hirion about the Rebellion. Hirion raised an eyebrow curiously and thought about it. "I'm not sure, to be honest. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about it, especially after the last battle...But I've also seen how some of the people in the Weyr treat the new colors," she added with an apologetic look at the garnetrider. "I can't blame the leaders for wanting to protect their dragons. I guess I'm lucky I Impressed a blue." She didn't stand out much in a crowd, so it was easier to stay out of the conflict, even though she wasn't sure she was satisfied with that. Ferrth rarely was.

"They're fighting for those of us that can't fight." Yufa replied sadly. She didn't necessarily approve of the ways things happened; she would have much rather the two sides avoided battles, but that seemed to be impossible. "I wouldn't trade Braymoth for anything in all of Pern... but there are times I wish his hide colour didn't label us as enemies..." She glanced to where Braymoth lay and there was a sadness to her posture.
"I hope the Rebellion's ideals at least, come out of this." She wished for a day Braymoth and her could join a wing without getting angry, mistrusting glares. She supposed she did deserve it right now... Braymoth was a spy. Yufa watched the other girl closely.

Hirion nodded thoughtfully. "I find it hard to believe any dragon could really be so dangerous...but I guess that's how people are." She sighed.
"I'd like that too--not that I'm ready to run off right now and join the Rebellion, or anything like that," Hirion added quickly when she realized she might be sounding a bit too approving. She had the feeling Yufa pretty much agreed with her, especially with her riding a garnet, but one could never be too careful; they were in the middle of a Gather, after all, and they were not the only ones around.

Yufa couldn’t help the slight giggle that escaped her, like the tinkling of bells. “You wouldn’t be the first to run off.” She got a far away look then, full of sorrow and, perhaps, loneliness as she thought of her brother and his escape to the rebellion. She had seen more than a few friends leave and there were times she wished she could just follow them. Her apprenticeship was more important than comfort though, and she was willing to ignore the harsh stares of Trelis’ mutant haters.
“You’d be surprised how often Braymoth is contacted by pairs looking to switch over,” She mumbled quietly, rather wary about speaking out in the open about it.

"Really?" Hirion asked, her mouth opening in an "O" of surprise. "Does that mean some of the weyrlings who were lost between...might not actually be dead?" Hirion asked after a glance at their surroundings. It would be nice if it were true; the last few classes had taken heavier losses than it seemed like they should have--the Rebellion would certainly offer a happier outcome for some of them than dying in the cold of between.
She was surprised, but also pleased, that Yufa seemed to trust her enough to share such a fact with her. She hadn't really considered that some people who fully supported the Rebellion might still live in Trelis Weyr. That was certainly an interesting turn of events...

Yufa glanced around aswell, a tad nervous. She hadn't meant to give away the fact that many of the betweened pairs were alive and well. Of course, the garnetrider was worried that Hirion might not be as supportive of the Rebellion as she hoped... she couldn't go around blabbing her job to just anyone.
"It wouldn't surprise me if many were still alive." She replied, "Our weyrlingmasters are good at what they do and the numbers were just so abnormally high." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ears. "I'm glad some have the choice to go where they want." Not like her... she was trapped here if she wanted to learn healing.

Hirion was actually a little disappointed that Yufa's little theory wasn't a sure thing. "I think it would be nice if it were true," she said. "I don't necessarily want to join up myself, but it'd still be a better fate than dying, you know?"
She nodded as Yufa continued. "That does make a lot of sense, too." This conversation had certainly given her a lot to think about. Ferrth, too, as he was naturally listening in through Hirion. She could tell the blue liked the idea of being a secret rebel, but she wasn't sure he'd like the reality so well. She'd probably want to take the time to discourage him. And to think, before Impression, she'd been the reckless one.
