By the Golden Egg of Faranth By the Weyrwoman, wise and true, Breed a flight of bronze and brown wings Breed a flight of green and blue. Breed riders, strong and daring, Dragon-loving, born as hatched, Flight of hundreds soaring skyward, Man and dragon fully matched.
[/size] [/i] This tune was piped quite eagerly and happily by Mae as she hurried around the kitchen. In her haste and focus on song she's spilled her mug of klah onto the counter and had just cleaned it up. Even after she'd finished singing her continued humming. The sun was not even as bright as she seemed at the moment. Tiide and Violette watched Theirs curiously, wondering why she fluttered here and there. They had no idea she was glad she may actually have her chance at her dream, at life... Mae nearly knocked over her second cup as she replayed the other day in her mind. Oh! It was so... unbelievable! Then she resumed humming in between sips of klah. When would she have her next Harper class? She'd love to learn a new instrument or song...

The Masterharper of Pern had been sitting in the corner of the Dining Hall for some time now, having arrived late the following night. Rather than stumble about and try to find a room to stay in, since it was only a few hours until sunrise, he chose instead to head to the kitchens and wait for the day to start.
It was, then, that Galedren was present when a young girl entered the kitchen, singing quite joyously. The Harper smiled. Obviously something exciting had happened to the girl! He almost laughed when she spilled a mug of klah, but instead kept silent-- he was rather curious as to what would happen next.
He guessed she must be an apprentice Harper, which made him a bit sad. There was no true Harper at Trelis Weyr to teach her, and, well... he couldn't stay for very long, either. He just wanted to visit his brother and see what the situation was between the Weyr and what they were calling The Obsidian Rebellion.
And yet still the girl kept humming! It pulled at his heart strings, to not teach her. Well... he may as well give her lessons while he was at Trelis, for however long that may be. Pulling out a worn gitar, he began to play the familiar runs and notes of the song she had been humming.
"Speak up!" He called. "Sing louder and harmonize with me!" Letting his fingers dance over the strings, he began to sing...
"By the Golden Egg of Faranth By the Weyrwoman, wise and true, Breed a flight of bronze and brown wings Breed a flight of green and blue..."

Galedren clearly caught Mae by surprise! Her eyes were wide with confusion and curiousity, but was soon replaced by a smile! Oh, he sang and-- Wanted her to join?
She listened to the man's strong voice, watching and studying his face. She'd never seen him before...
But now it was her turn' " Breed riders, strong and daring, Dragon-loving, born as hatched, Fllight of hundreds soaring skyward, Man and dragon fully matched."
Her voice was no where near the brass and warm sound of Galedren's but it had a sweeter bright appeal.
Who was he? After she sang, curiousity got the better of her and almost without thinking she asked "Who are you?"
Manners, manners! "Oh, excuse me. I'm Mae." No doubt he was a Harper? A real true Harper?

The girl's eyes went wide. It was obvious that she hadn't noticed Galedren quietly sipping his klah in the corner (as he had intended), and was surprised when he invited her to sing with him. Galedren was, however, rewarded with a smile, and the rest of the song.
The girl's voice was bright, and she had clearly had some training, but not nearly enough, in Galedren's eyes. Playing the last notes, he set down the gitar, and, blinking owlishly, gulped down the rest of his klah.
"Who am I?" He asked. Stroking his beard as if he were in thought, he leaned forward. "Well, that depends. Who are you?" That question was answered almost immediately. "Mae... Mae... the Harper Apprentice?" He ventured. Standing, he smiled. "I'm Masterharper Galedren. Nice to meet you."

Master Harper Galedren! Mae was stunned, the actual Masterharper..... "Y-yes. I am Mae, but I've not been taught much lately. Most of my studies have been... copying or... reciting or reading." Maybe Galedren would not have to know about her struggle with writing and reading? Growing up in Trelis she'd received little schooling and had a hard time reading and writing. She was learning she had a better time memorizing than actually reading.
She studied his face. It was interesting how his cheeks crinkled just slightly as he smiled. "Did you just arrive here? I... I haven't seen you around, Galedren, Masterharper, sir." She flushed, unsure of what title was appropriate.
Tiide chirped and scuttled across the counter to watch the Masterharper. He snuffed at Mae's klah snorting and becoming uninterested.
Mae took a swallow of the semi-warm drink still watching Galedren. He seemed friendly, quite friendly actually.
