Mae was just sitting in the fading light, completely dressed in her custom fitted tunic and whatnot. Her hair was messy, ruffled as if she'd wrestled a bear eariler or played roughly with other boys. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across her and the ground. Much to her delight, she looked like a servent boy or an errend boy of sorts or maybe a slim fighter, but a boy all the same. She was surprisingly more muscular than other girls her age, still graceful but much more clumsy.
Mae again looked around straining slightly in the dim light. A flit sat upon each shoulder, like little gargoyles.

Mae wasn’t the only one out and about in the fading light. Firo was making his way back to his room after a long day with the weavers. The journeymen here rubbed him the wrong way, expecting him to do the ‘lesser’ things that he truly had no interest in. Couldn’t they just teach him what he wanted to know and let him do as he pleased?
With a sigh, he shrugged the bag higher on his shoulder, glancing down as if to confirm that it still held all the materials he had taken. He planned on spending the rest of his free time teaching himself. He didn’t pay much attention to what was around him, only noticing the setting sun long enough to gauge how much free time he had, and he only briefly noticed the nearby boy who didn’t seem to have anything better to do than stare off at the sky. Hmph. He walked by.

Mae met Firogel's gaze with her own, nodding back. She would have sat there if she wasn't so bored. Blab blab, dusk, blab blah sunset... booooooriing! She wanted adventure! Dragons, swords, exploring ... of course she knew she'd never get it.
So she followed after Firo, trying to look as if uninterested or not following but failing..
She didn't speak, only squared her shoulders slightly and straighten her back. Both Violette and Tiide protested when she started walking, wobbling and digging their claws into her shoulders for support. She winced but didn't say anything.

Firo glanced back at the sound of protesting squeaks, noticing quickly that the guy from before was now walking behind him. Wait.. was he being followed? Ugh, probably the brother of some silly chick he picked on or something. He certainly wouldn't put it past half the girls at the Weyr to go whining to someone for protection.
"Are you following me?" He called back lazily, curious now as to what the other was doing. He shifted his materials and stopped moving, crossing his arms to glare at the stranger.

Tiide chirped, fluttering alittle. Violette watched Firogel critically, as if rating him.
Mae stopped then forced herself forward suddenly, receiving scolding from her flits.
"I have nothing better to do..." This was likely the give away point, since she couldn't quite mimic the deep or suns of a man's voice. "What are you up to?"

The sound of the voice, though low, was clearly female and caused Firogel to sigh and roll his eyes. Great, he was being followed by a very confused girl, and she sounded to be about the same age as him, if not a bit younger. He glanced back at her.
"Look you, I don't have the time to babysit some dumb girl. Don't you have a boyfriend to bother or something?" As if he was going to tell her what he was up to!

Mae frowned, eyes narrowing. What a dimglow! Breath. In. Out.
She had tensed as if to spring, but suddenly relaxed. Both firelizards had swirls of red in their eyes and lashed their tails.
"Who hurt you to the extent you are so angry and hurtful? Petty jabs don't bother me, so find some other tactic of 'ridding yourself of a dumb girl'."
Oh, but the name calling of dumb struck a sore spot. She couldn't read all that well, or write for that matter... she needed a tutor... How dare he go that far! She'd like to punch him and rough him up a bit...

"Aww, did I hurt your feelings?" He mocked, feigning care as he looked back at her and not taking interest in the two young firelizards on her shoulders. They didn't seem to be too happy with him, but they were tiny and he doubted their claws would do too much damage.
"Oh yes, you sure seem awfully calm and indifferent for someone who isn't bothered by words." He smirked; the red of her flits eyes showed him she was, at the very least, unhappy with him. "You don't seem like you plan on leaving me alone regardless of what I do." He glanced her over, wondering what exactly she thought she was doing. Well, at least her petite build wasn't going to pose any problems if she decided to try to hit him.
"I assure you, you'd be much better off finding another girl to play dress up with than following me around. Now scram."

Don't let him control me.. Mae let a mask seal herself, and put on a cheery grin. "Dress-up? Really?"
She eyed his bag, only able to make out a colorful fabric scrap or two.
"Looks more like you are going back home to sew for your dollies. You are gay right? I mean, dress-up? Really? Do I look like a dress-up Sissy to you? I think you are the one to talk, as you tote around with your ladycraft..."
Tiide chirped a sharp haha sound, head bobbing up and down.
Maw was almost daring Firo to provoke her. A little excersise would be nice.

"Oh aren't you the smartest of the lot, assuming my choice in crafts at all reflects my sexuality." He rolled his eyes. "By the same belief you must obviously go for girls since you dress as a boy, right? Though Faranth forbid you could have picked something better to wear than that..."
He stepped towards her, going to out his way to look her over. "Really, I'm no fashion freak but I think a wher could dress itself better than you. Doesn't surprise me that you don't have enough intelligence to know how clothing works. " Of course a girl would attack sexually in the hopes of hitting a nerve, but Firo was comfortable with who he was and certainly wasn't going to be offended if she believed otherwise.
"Let's be honest. You look like a silly little girl looking for some attention and, for some strange reason, you thought you'd find that with me. So tell me, are you getting what you wanted, little girl?" Yes he was being mean, but Firo was far from friendly when it came to girls. Though truth be told, she seemed like a cute girl all in all. Firo was simply the type of person to try to tear down any girls he met without remorse, even if his insults were lies.

Mae was so tempted to punch or atleast swing at Firogel, how stupid could he get?
"Oh yes, I am. You call me attention seeking, which I very well may be. But you, sir, clearly are twisted and possiblely scarred from abuse. Did a women kick your ass? Is that why you hate women? I am not a useless, silly maid or a servant. I would not be afriad to cross blades with you, if I had one. You think you hurt my feelings, but really, you only cause me to pity you. You are hurting so bad, you want me to hurt too don't you?"
Her gaze was hard, but the same time soft. Did the boy think she cared about her appearence? HA! Biggest piece of wherry dung she'd ever heard.
"And no, I do not go after women, as you seem to think. I hate the things women are usually required to wear, as women. But that's none of your concern."
Mae could tell Firo was definately sexist, but there was a reason he hated women. She wanted to know.

What was it with girls always thinking they could analyze him. Was he not allowed to dislike someone just because he didn’t want to like them? He sighed and rubbed at his temple, a habit he had picked up from his own father. Well apparently insulting her wasn’t going to get rid of her, time for a new plan.
“Oh yes girl. I’m horribly, terribly abused. What are you going to do about it? Give me a hug and a kiss and make all my demons go away?” He smirked at her as he spoke, the sarcasm clear in his voice. He was beyond amused that she would even think of facing off against him in a fight. He was a trained duelist, not to mention incredibly fit even for a young boy. He would have her pinned in moments, regardless of whether she had a knife of not.
“Face it girl. You thought that just because you’re a girl that everyone would be nice to you. Welcome to reality.”

His last comment made her blood boil, and she nearly lunged at him, like a ticked off cat.
"Actually, being a girl has NEVER made anyone nice to me! All my life, I've been picked on. I try being nice, doing things for people.. But apparently, the world is full of...of..."
She began to sputter, trying to decide whether to explode into tears or explode into a rage. What was she doing wrong? Was being friendly or kind to thy neighbor a sin for this dimglow?
Her lip trembled and she just prayed the darkness hid her face so Firogel couldn't see how close she was to falling apart. She tried to find something he'd said to make her angry, and fight back tears with rage and her sharp-tongue. But..but... Nothing made the confusion and the hurt go away.
What was she? Hell, who was she? She didn't know her parents, had only just found her (possible) half-brother...
Her breath caught in her chest, and it took everything in Mae's self-control not to cry. I'm not a baby anymore. I am a growing young lady. A young woman...
"You... you are terrible." Shards, her lips quivered! "You hurt others to make yourself feel good about yourself, don't you? If that is what you are doing...." Mae's voice broke. "Then...then... I guess you've won."
Then Mae turned, hoping to flee. She... she hated letting such a cold person win. If only she could have shown him up, given him his own medicine.. But.. but that was not something she could do now.
Tiide spit at Firogel, and Violette crooned and nuzzled Mae's cheek.

He remained calm as she had her outburst; it had been expected. Everyone had something that would set them off, it was just finding that something that was the hard part. Firo smirked as she stopped rambling and went quiet. No doubt she was crying like a girl. The thought made Firo happy. THAT would teach her to try to mess with him.
“Oh did I hurt your feelings? I’m soo sorry.” He replied sarcastically, not at all sorry about making her cry. That was the thing with girls, they tried to be tough, but in the end they were all emotional wrecks. Hmph. “This was fun idiot girl. Find me if you ever want to play again.” He grinned darkly as she turned, pleased with himself for upsetting her so much.
