The sharp and sweet notes of a flute filled the quiet forest, creating a bright cheery feeling. A girl, or was that a boy, sat on the bank of the river, short boyish hair ruffled by a gentle breeze. This was in fact a girl, her feminine body hidden by what looked like a man's outfit; boots, tunic and pants. One could see crude, but not ugly stitching clearly from residing the leather to fit. Her eyes were closed as she played her melody, absorbed in her own world. From the Weyr and from the Bowl, Bronze and brown and blue and green, Rise the dragonmen on Pern, Aloft, on wing, seen, then unseen
[/i] [/size] Mae let her arms fall to her side, flute leaving her lips as her soft and tender voice sang a small song. Then... all we quiet as she stilled.

Th’en shook his head as he walked alongside his large green dragonet, it hadn’t really been all that long since he had impressed the feminine dragon, but he felt like it was a lifetime ago. Tyeth already knew so much about her rider that she didn’t need to really ask him what he thought about different things, and the intelligent green wondered if it was like that for all bonded pairs. As it happens neither one of them had needed to ask the other if they had wanted to go for a walk, but it had been Tyeth’s idea to walk through the forest. Th’en wasn’t sure it was actually allowed for weyrlings as young as Tyeth to be wandering so far from the Weyr, but he had walked lovingly beside his utterly female dragon. He looked down and smiled at Tyeth as a thought accord to him.
Really Th'en you are horrid. Tyeth’s voice was cold, but sounded a lot like a teacher scolding a child for being tardy to class, despite that though she rumbled with laughter. Awe come on Tyeth, you have to admit, it is a valid question. He had been wondering if there were any other dragons out there more feminine than his own. You know I love you Tye, despite you being utterly feminine. He gently nudged the female’s leg with his foot as he spoke. She growled at him, but that was quickly changed to a soft purr. Yes Minelove, I know that. I love you too. She gently rubbed her green head against his arm and crooned when he started scratching her eye ridges. Minelove, someone is there. Tyeth stood still with her head cocked to the side as she spoke.

Mae striaghtened up, squaring her shoulders to look older. Atleast it was a man and not a lady, or she would have left...
"Hi... I'm Mae." Her blue eyes stared at him, before she smiled wide. So he was a dragonrider?? She was talking to a dragonrider!
She stood suddenly, putting her flute on her belt. "What a wonderful dragon!" Her eyes sparkled, and if she would have been allowed, she would have hugged Tyeth's neck.
"What her name?" Mae reddened at her rudeness. "And your name, of course?"

Th’en looked over where Tyeth was looking and watched as a boy, or maybe a really manly girl, squared their shoulders and looked back at them. He nodded, a little stiffly, when the girl, at least he hoped he was guessing right by her name, spoke. He started a little when she suddenly stood. Tyeth straightened a little, her feminine neck arching a little more, making her look even more female, if that was possible. Her name is Tyeth, I am her rider, Thaden, now known as Th’en. He dipped his head respectfully as he spoke, and lightly scratched Tyeth’s eye ridges as he introduced her. He couldn’t help but smile softly as Mae reddened though. He didn’t know what to say to make her feel a little more comfortable, and wondered if she had reddened because she hadn’t much experience with riders and dragons.

Mae nodded, unsure what really was supposed to happen next. "Have you flown yet? I bet it's the greatest feeling in the world!"
Her eyes tore from Tyeth and met Th'en's. "That was what I was thinking of earlier... flying on a dragon's back.."
He'd just laugh like the other children and people. Babbling like a child... But she wasn't a child. She was small, boyish, but nearly a women. Sometimes.. Mae wished she was a boy... but now she wished she was a weyrling boy.
"What's it like to.. Impress?"

Th’en tilted his head to the side a little at Mae’s question. No, Tyeth is still too young for me to ride. Tyeth was a larger green, but she was still too small, and too young, for him to even think about riding let alone flying. He smiled softly when she said that was what she had been thinking about before the two of them had come along. He reached down and scratched lovingly at Tyeth’s eye ridges and thought carefully about Mae’s question. Well, I’m not really sure how to describe it. I was shocked, amazed, and in denial that she had actually picked Me. Tyeth rolled her swirling eyes but crooned delightedly as Her’s started scratching her eye ridges again. I still don't understand why my choice surprises you so Minelove. Her voice was sweet and gentle, but only for her rider to hear.

Mae flushed again, realizing her mistake. "O-oh... I wasn't meaning anything... I don't know much about ages or flying or dragons for that matter. I'm a Harper."
Mae held up her flute. She didn't look much like a girl. She, was tan, however paler than other boys and tall. Her tunic did not enhance her feminine looks at all. Only her voice and slender waist and perhaps her roundish chest (however she was quite flat) did.
"I think dragons are wonderful creatures. I'd like to try and be a candidate... maybe one day..."

Th’en raised his eyebrows curiously at Mae as she flushed again. Tyeth cocked her head to the side curiously, an action that normally didn’t look feminine, but when the young green did it; it looked decidedly female. Is she ok Minelove? The young green didn’t know much about human females, and what she saw from Mae made her curiously. It’s alright Mae, we all make mistakes. And I’m sure she’s fine Tyeth, just a little confused right? He turned his head from his dragon to look at Mae as he spoke the last part. She is female, right Th'en? If she is, why does she hide it? Tyeth looked up at her rider with swirling eyes that were the bright colors of confusion. This made Th’en stutter, as he tried to grasp an answer that would satisfy his young dragoness.
Yes she’s female Tyeth. Um...well...um... Th’en looked back and forth from Mae to Tyeth as he failed to think of an answer. Finally he just resigned himself to asking the girl himself, since it was obvious that Tyeth wasn’t going to talk to Mae until she knew her better. Um...Mae? I’m sorry if this is too personal, but Tyeth was wondering if you were female and if you are why do you hide it? He turned away from Mae as he spoke, instantly feeling his cheeks redden as he started repeating the weyrling’s question. He had never learned just how awkward it could be to be bonded to a young dragon, and now it seemed as though he was going to get a crash course on the matter. At least there was no one else around to see him embarrass himself in front of a complete stranger.

Mae frowned, blushed alittle harder and shuffled her feet. "I...I guess its because I've always been rough like a boy a played with boys. I do not do dolls or that stuff."
Mae knew that Tyeth hadn't meant harm, but it somehow bother Mae. Was she supposed to care or try and be more like a girl? No.. she couldn't change. This was who she was, tomboyish and odd Mae.
"Is it bad? D-do I..." She stared hard at her feet, sighing softly. Her style didn't bother them, did it? Was that why she couldn't make friends?

Th’en wasn’t sure what to do, he started scratching nervously at Tyeth’s femininely arched neck. She is strange Minelove, but you may tell her to stop sniveling like a hatchling now. Tyeth’s voice was soft and loving at first, but almost in an instant it changed into a cold, cruel growl. Tyeth be nice! Th’en swatted the green’s neck lightly, but turned to do as he had been told. Tyeth says that you are strange but that you can stop sniveling like a hatchling now. His face was a deep red now, and he wondered if Mae was going to hit him. It wasn’t him that was thinking this, it was his dragoness! In all honesty he didn’t really care if Mae chose to act like a tomboy. It’s not bad Mae, Tyeth is just...well...she doesn’t hold back her opinions. He wasn’t sure if that would help lighten the sting that Tyeth might have caused the poor girl.

Mae frowned. See? This was exactly why she never liked the way women treated her. All about beauty and hair and this and that! Whiny whiny whiny! Gimme gimme gimme! Blah blah gossip nag blah!
It drove her insane! But Mae would keep her opinions quiet. She would not offend the pretty dragon.....
"It is fine, Th'en." She forced a smile, unclutching her fists to hide her growing frustration.

Th’en had a feeling that not all was well between this girl he had just met, Mae, and his young green dragon, Tyeth. Either Mae was very bad at hiding her frustrations, or Tyeth was just that good at telling when someone was upset with her. I do not think she likes me Minelove. Tyeth’s voice was soft and sweet, but Th’en knew that at any moment now her voice could, and would, change to something very unpleasant. I really am sorry Mae. Tyeth didn’t mean anything by it, she just...well...she has issues with other females, especially dragon females. Th’en looked a little embarrassed by what had transpired between his weyrling and Mae, he just felt that Tyeth had made a really bad first impression and wished that there was some way he could show Mae that Tyeth really was a sweet dragonet...when she wanted to be.

Mae took a silent breath, thinking over what was happening. Mae was hardly girlish, or anything Tyeth should envy, or group as a lady. She chewed on her lip a moment. "No, really it is fine... I just haven't had the... greatest treatment from women." And this is yet another example... She thought.
As if offering peace, Mae touched Tyeth's green cheek. Mae had never felt pretty or tough... So.. who was she?? Which was she...?
"I.. I shouldn't have been so testy." Better to apoligize, even if she felt she had done nothing wrong.. Something was upsetting Th'en.
