Ka'mond and Abyrath had spent the day lounging on an isle off the coast of Trelis, midway between both his home and the Rebellion.
Ka'mond was relaxing against a shady tree, nearly alseep, lulled by the sounds of crickets and the croak of the summar toads. He was drifting off into a dream, his head sagging onto his chest....
Am I pretty KaMine? Abyrath's question jerked Ka'mond awake. "...huh?..."
He rubbed at his eyes, squinting in the hazey dusk to see Abyrath's tiny figure, gazing intently at the stars.
I said, am I pretty? Would another dragon like me?
Ka'mond wasn't sure where this was headed, but he didn't think he liked where this chat was going.
Of course I think you are pretty, Abyrath. Don't I always tell you that? You are the most beautiful amethyst on Pern.
She snorted, looking at Ka'mond with violet , oh yes, quite purple eyes.
"A-Abyrath?" Ka'mond's heart begin to drum in his chest, and his throat suddenly felt dry and closed. No, no, nononononononononono. This wasn't... couldn't be... happening!
Abyrath, everything's ok. You are ok. Come on, lets go to sleep. We can have lots of fun in the morn-
His purple dragoness clearly wasn't listening, as her wings nearly smacked Ka'mond in the face. And they would have if the boy hadn't ducked. Ka'mond couldn't breath, he couldn't think. Air, air, breath, easy now. Females rise all the time, surely this was no different, right?
Ka'mond sank to his knees, suddenly aware of Abyrath's flightlust. He clutched his head, this his stomach, and curled into a ball. Oh, please make it stop! He felt like his blood was boiling, and was overwhelmed by his bonded's intense desire to mate. Abyrath dove upon a wild stag, snapping its spine with a savage cruelty never seen before. She ripped a chunck of flesh from the beast, and tossed it in the air to swallow it. BLOOD IT ABYRATH! BLOOD IT! Hissing at Hers, she let the meat fall and bloodied the buck. Abyrath....
Abyrath beat her wings, surging into the air. The stars thought they could outshine HER!? Ha! She was so much more dazzling than stupid little glowy blips in the sky!
She roared, a loud and powerful sound. She was perfect! She would prove that!
Come all dragons! Come adore me, Abyrath, dragoness of grace and beauty! Come and show me how I'm worthy, how you are worthy of me, tonight! Let the stars light our way, let their light be our costumes, the night air our stage! Come dragons of Pern!
Ka'mond rolled his head to try and spy his dragoness, and horrorified of what he saw.
Abyrath turned her wings and drew near to Rindell , yes, the Rebellion. She roared and made her message clear and known. Abyrath has risen!
......ABYRATH! NO!
No! Not Rindell, not the Rebellion! They had agreed they'd stay in Trelis, with Asaara, and Croyeth... Asaara...
Ka'mond beat his head with his hand. Ah! Beastly, lustful thoughts... His vision blurred with that of Abyrath's, his body part of her... Yes, fly higher, dive, dip. We are one. Ka'mondAbyrath. We are one....

Ferrth probably should have been back at Trelis at this hour, asleep in his weyr. He couldn't help it, though. He was restless, and felt the need to stretch his wings, so he had decided to take a little flight past some of the isles near Trelis.
He hadn't expected to meet anyone else around, but he caught sight of an amethyst and bugled a happy greeting to her. He was sure he recognized her...ah, cute little Abyrath. Though not really that little now, or cute. More like beautiful, the way she turned and whirled in the air. A little belatedly, he realized she was rising, and the blue's eyes spun with excitement.
He heard her challenge, and grew concerned when she turned in the direction of Rindell Island. That couldn't be good; those dragons were trouble. Surely she didn't want one of them for her first mate? Abyrath, my sweet, he crooned, making his presence known. There's nothing worthwhile in that direction. Turn around and I'll show you the sort of dragon that can match your dance.
Back at Trelis, Hirion was deep in a conversation with a new--male--friend when Ferrth's emotions hit her. She gave a slow smile, and her companion didn't complain at all when she decided to take their conversation somewhere more...private. She hoped the rider of whatever dragon Ferrth was chasing had made similarly satisfactory arrangements.

You were my conscience, so solid, now you're like water And we started drowning, not like we'd sink any further But I let my heart go, it's somewhere down at the bottom But I'll get a new one and come back for the hope that you've stolen
It was dark, the stars were out and Banemith was asleep. Suddenly, he heard a roar. His head shot up and he roared in response. G'daro shot up from his bed, sweating heavily. No. Not again. A mating flight.... he thought to himself. He tried to stop him, but it was too late. He was airborne.
Banemith killed a herdbeast and blooded it. He gazed upwards at the sky, searching for her. Then he saw her, heading towards Rindell! He roared in anger; he would not let that one bronze that tried to steal his beloved Peniath or anyone else win! He shot into the air and soon he was right behind a blue that was chasing her. I shall chase, my Abyrath! he called to her. Hopefully, he would win and sire his very first clutch.
I'll stop the whole world, I'll stop the whole world From turning into a monster and eating us alive Don't you ever wonder how we survive? Well now that you're gone, the world is ours

I don't wanna feel the way that I do I just wanna be right here with you I don't wanna see, see us apart I just wanna tell you straight from my heart
Abyrath twisted, looping in a wide arch. She was beautiful! She was free! She was absorbed in herself, at first, but quickly noticed the two Trelis dragons joining her. Her violet gaze noticed Ferreth, her friend, quickly, head cocking at Banemith. She'd never met him one on him, the brown, only glimpsed him once or twice. She roared, flaring her wings and nostrils. Welcome Ferreth, BluePrince, and brown Banemith. Let us see who is most worthy. Her amethyst body spirled behind the two males, weaving teasingly between them, her tiny figure slipping just out of reach. Abyrath felt wild, beastly, happy. Every emotion was electrified, intense, confusing... Wouldn't be fun for a rebellion dragon to join this game? She crooned, hopefully. Surely they are not truely evil? Flightlusting or not, Abyrath was Abyrath, innocent, curious Abyrath.
Hey, I can't sleep I just can't breathe When your shadow is all over me Don't wanna be A fool in your eyes When all we had was built on lies

Banemith's eyes swirled with a lustful purple as he followed both the amethyst. He crooned as she flirted with him; she was indeed beautiful! He wanted her so bad, unlike Peniath, which was pure luck, and the two queens, who rejected him for someone else. He nearly touched her with one of his claws, but she was quick and agile in the air.
He pumped his wings faster as she rose into the starry night. Soon, he was right behind her. He wondered if he should follow the tactics of Kaith, the winner of Kayath's maiden flight, or use his own. He decided in a split second, slowly beating his wings into a steady rhythm. Abyrath! You are more stunning then the stars themselves! The cosmos fail compared to you! he crooned.
But then a question entered his mind: should a rebel dragon join in the fun? He hissed, his eyes now swirling with rage. NO! I will not allow it! he roared. But then he remembered that his beloved Peniath was a rebel, but he did not know until he visited Rindell once. He thought it over and he came up with an appropriate answer. Abyrath, it would be fun for a rebel to join, but it's just that I am not comfortable around this certain rebel... I hope that you can work around that. he crooned softly.

Ferrth glanced jealously at the other dragon as brown Banemith joined them. She would be his...hopefully. His eyes flashed red, but then Abyrath spun and flew between them, drawing his attention back to her.
Crooning flirtatiously, Ferrth dived towards the amethyst, trying to grab hold of her and the flight, but he missed. His heart beat faster as Abyrath mentioned the Rebellion. No! He'd been told those dragons were evil, weren't they? That's what Hirion had been told, and surely he could trust his rider.
Abyrath, the rebel dragons are hardly worthy of your brilliance, Ferrth told her with a croon. Please, let me show you how I am worthy of you. Or Banemith, even. The last part was said grudgingly, as he was still feeling competitive, but better the brown than a rebel dragon.

This is the summer of love I feel my heart is dancing If you wanna dance with me Get ready there's a party tonight We gonna dance so free Let's do it for the very first time
Abyrath dove again, looping around yet again. Only two males, which would normally bother a female, but not her. Both were strong males, brave and bold and handsome. It would be a hard choice. If what you sing is true, Banemith, then you are quite charming. Prove to me you are not just a flirt. Abyrath crooned, backwinging playfully. And you, Ferreth, I am glad to see you here. The boys had distracted the amethyst from her journey toward Rindell, and she drew nearer to her suitors. Such pretty males, who to choose? This is the summer of love, Ohooh I feel my heart is dancing. Summer of Love Ohooh It makes me feel alive.
Abyrath let out a cry of freedom, of happiness and joy. Tonight was her night, hers alone! She flew between Banemith and Ferreth, able to dodge them, but easily in their reach. All the boys on the floor Are you ready for the time of your life?

If that is what you wish, my Abyrath, then I shall prove to you that I am more than just a flirt! he replied and with that, he spiraled out of her view. He rose up high, hidden in the clouds, but instead of trying to catch her early, like he tried with the Senior queen, he dove to her level and spread his wings into a glide next to her. His gaze met hers and he spiraled out of view again. When he reappeared, he was right behind her again. He hummed a soothing melody to himself as he followed her.
Meanwhile, G'daro found the Amethyst's rider and the blue's rider as well. He looked to the stars, searching for him. Then he found him, right behind the amethyst, with the blue in tow. He gulped, his dragon has already participated in three mating flights, the first one a victory. Would his dragon be able to keep up?

Ferrth's chest puffed up with pride when the amethyst said she was happy to see him. She remembered him; that was good. He clearly remembered her, though he didn't remember her being quite so pretty the last time they'd met.
He was a large, but agile male, and since Abyrath apparently wanted her suitors to prove themselves, he began to show off. He spent a lot of time practicing his flying skills, and he whirled and did loops in the air; he even climbed high into the sky above them and did a corkscrew as he dived back towards Abyrath.
He was tempted to try to catch her again, right now, but she was able to dodge too easily, as she had already shown once. He flew alongside her across from Banemith, not being pushy, but close enough to finish the flight if it came to that. At least they had distracted her from the Rebellion. That was good.

Abyrath knew who she wanted, her choice was made. She gracefully arched backwards, flying almost on top of Banemith. Their wings were mere inches from touching, but their flight was synced. Take me now, baby, here as I am Hold me close, try and understand Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe Love is a banquet on which we feed
Come on now, try and understand The way I feel when I'm in your hands Take my hand, come under cover They can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now, can't hurt you now.
Banemith, you did not lie. She sang softly, switching to fly right under the brown's belly. She wanted him to catch her, yes. Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to lust Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us
Abyrath nuzzled Banemith's neck with her head, giving him a violet sideways glance. Yes, he was the one. He was hers! Both have flown well, but Banemith is mine. My King. -- Ka'mond peered upwards, glad Abyrath had chosen a Trelis dragon. Good job, Abyrath.

Banemith was gliding along when all of a sudden, Abyrath was above him. His eyes, returning to the violet of lust, looked into her eyes and he knew, he had won. When she flew below him, he grabbed her and together they spiraled. He licked her cheek and nuzzled her in response. You chose wisely, my Abyrath. he replied.
On the ground, G'daro fell to his knees. NOT. AGAIN. he screamed in his head. He sighed and stood up. Guess this means I'll be at Rindell for awhile. he thought. He took the amethyst rider's hand and led him to his quarters. Even though he was a boy, he would work around that somehow....

Abyrath clung onto Banemith, entwining their tails. They were one, brown wrapped with purple, seperate but together.
She pressed closer to him, so close she could hear his mighty heart beat. She closed her eyes as the rose then fell...
--fade to black--
Ka'mond felt hot, sweat on his forehead. W-wait, n-n-noo! He had not realized Abyrath's choice had a... male rider... O-oh....
He took a breath. This was tradition, he guessed.... He'd make do...
