Name:
Rayas {R'as}
Pronunciation:
Ray - as
Age:
19 Turns
Season Born In:
Summer
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Bisexual {Female Preference}
Appearance:
Rayas is 6'1" and weighs 164 pounds. He is tall, and thin, with very long legs. He has short, sandy blonde hair that he lets hang wherever it pleases. As far as he can remember, his hair's always been like that. He also has light blue eyes that always seem to shine. He is very expressive, so don't be surprised to see him smiling one moment, then scowling the next. It can be quite confusing to some, but to those that know him, it's just normal. Rayas usually wears baggy clothes because he says they're more comfortable than tighter clothes. He's almost always wearing pants and boots, and will very rarely wear anything dressy. He doesn't like dress clothes because he thinks they make them stand out, something he really doesn't like. He usually is also wearing darker colors like black, dark blue, brown and the like.
Rayas' always wearing boots, even his dress shoes are boots. No one really understands why, not even himself. Even to this day he still doesn’t understand this little fact of his. Not that it really bothers him much anymore; instead he has a few other things to keep his interest. Ever since he had admitted his feelings for Xaemia he has started taking better care of himself. Oh, and he has also started taking more baths. At least now he might have a chance at not smelling like rotten food and dirty dragon anymore. Either way he just looks a lot cleaner, and so far no one has said he smells bad either. He has gained a couple of pounds, but he’s also gained more muscle as well. So now he doesn’t look as thin as he used to, instead he just looks a LOT more muscular, and in certain eyes, more manly as well.
Personality:
Rayas is a very happy and friendly person. He almost always sees the glass as half-full, and loves to cheer others up. He loves making his friends laugh, but doesn't consider himself a clown, though...some of his friends would beg to differ. He can be very goofy, even a little ditsy, but don't let that fool you. He is actually a very intelligent person, even if it doesn't seem like it when you meet him. Rayas is very energetic...as long as it's after eleven in the morning, and before midnight at night. Those are the times when he's really lazy, and doesn't want to do anything. When he isn't thinking about food, which is very rarely, he's usually thinking of ways to have fun. Or get in trouble, whichever comes first really. Normally the later happens well before the former.
Though, that almost never bothers Rayas, and for some reason he always finds a way to weasel himself out of the big trouble. Even though he can be a real clown, he's actually very polite, and knows his manners. He's a real loyal guy, and would never turn his back on a friend. After all, he was taught to treat others the way he wanted to be treated. He's also very respectful, and tries hard not to encroach on another person's personal space. Key word, tries. He's not always successful though, and always apologizes if he hurts someone's feelings, or upsets them. He’s gotten better at learning people’s boundaries, and staying out well outside of them. There are still times when he messes up, but they aren’t as frequent as they used to be, and are a lot less messy as well.
R’as has grown up quite considerably since he has impressed his little dreamer, Virath. He is a lot calmer than he used to be, and even more observant. He has to be now that he has to take care of Virath, and since he feels he has to look out for, and protect, Xaemia and Moth. That’s the biggest change people have seen within this young man. He is a lot more protective of those around him than he used to be, and even though he is bonded to a pretty low ranking male, he still insists on attempting to protect his big little adopted sister, Iirla. Iirla is the Senior Weyrwoman, and R’as is just a weyrling, but that doesn’t matter in this guy’s mind. Anyone that wants to mess with Iirla, has to get through him first, and he isn’t a very easy roadblock to get through either.

History
Rayas was born to the head cook of Southern Weyr, and Brown rider Ar'rex. Needless to say he's spent more time with his mother than his father. His two parents met after a queen flight eighteen turns ago. As far as he knows, neither of his parents have had much contact with each other after that day. His mother returned to her duties as the head cook, and his father went back to being a dragon rider. He does know that his mother has never sought out his father.
Rayas' mother never really told him much about who his father was, except that he was an exceptional brown rider. So he spent most of his free time pretending he knew his father, and acting as though they spent a great deal of time together. Then, the turn of his twelfth birthday, he got the chance to meet his father face to face at the fall gather. Rayas was there to help his mother serve food and drinks, and unfortunately he got saddled with the job of handing out cups of klah and wine.
Rayas was on his way back to talk to his mother when he saw her talking to a strange man. After cautiously sneaking closer to the two adults, his mother finally noticed him, and called him over. He was introduced to Ar'rex, and the man was introduced to his son. From that day on, Rayas has done everything he could to make his father proud of him. When he became a candidate, he thought the man would be happy, but till this day, Rayas is still unsure of whether or not his father is proud of him.
When Rayas' father was declared Weyrleader of Trelis, he did everything he could to get transferred over so that he could stay somewhat close to his father, and prove to him that he would become a great dragon rider some day. When he found out that his request to be transferred had been accepted, it didn't take him long to pack all of his things, and get ready for the trip to his new home, and the continuation of his dreams to gain his father's approval.

The entire time that the hatching had been going on, a war had been waged within the depths of The Unthinkable Happenstance Egg. On the one hand it was rooting for the hatchlings to find Theirs and get free, to stop the anger on the sands caused by the newest blue. The other side though hissed. It wanted blood! It wanted everything to pay! The sound was an irritable thing, echoing louder and louder until everyone in the stands and among the clutch could hear it.
Finally, it quieted. Who had won? A sudden crack rang out, and the two halves split open. From the egg, a pale tail snaked out. It was long and graceful, slim in proportion and most definitely feminine. A moment of awe came after as the head popped up, the equally graceful form opening her wings carefully. She knew the world couldn't be bad! She knew the world couldn't be filled with evil! The amethyst crooned, a sweet bell-like sound. Stepping forth from her shell, she looked at the candidates, ignoring the other hatchlings.
Hers was there, she knew he was there. A'ealMine! Oh My Love! Your Oddeth wants you now! She crooned, her eyes swirling rainbows as the little Istan boy ran forward to try and meet her. However, behind the amethyst another form rose up. Its hide was pitch black, and along it there were markings of a dark purple. The strangest thing, was that she in everyway mirrored her sister, for the thing that came forth was most definitely a girl. She hissed and flared her wings, her eyes spinning a dark red. This wouldn't do, how dare her sister be happy!
Darting forward, the black and purple hatchling went not for the amethyst, but for the rider. Pouncing on the boy despite both Oddeth and Loraketh's protests, the glowing dragonet made quick work of her sister's punishment. Raising her head, blood dripping from her jaws, she hissed a croon as Oddeth keened and shook her head, blinking between. That served her right! Loraketh roared, her wings flaring as she shook her head. A mother did not harm her children though! The dragonet chortled knowingly.
Her tail snaked around her front feet as she flicked her wings to free themselves of the blood. Well, that was interesting. Her markings glowed...strange, but nice. Looking at the candidates, the dragonet hissed and began to stalk toward to them. Now which one would pay next? She was so close to continuing her chaos, so close to...what?!? The dragonet's head snapped around as she glared at the white female. Had she not rid herself of her sister? Yet no, this one was not her twin. This one was another, but she would still taste her fangs as well.
Grabbing the white, the dragonet tore at her wings finally letting go after Loraketh shoved her away. Screaming back, the dragonet tossed her head. There was nothing wrong with her! She was beauty and terror and chaos all in one, and she was not ashamed of that. Everything came to an end, and she was what dictated that end! Oh yes mother, I am everything you wish you could lock up inside of yourself. Her words were both the sweetest sound and the harshest at once, and they echoed throughout the surrounding area. It has only just begun.
On the opposite side of the sands, the Ebony hatchling keened at the loss of its sibling. Everything had started so wonderfully! Bowing its head in shame at not being able to help, only to wish, he nudged the maimed form of his white sister. He would get her help, but he had to go to one of those Pink Things first. Running over, he tossed his head side to side as he looked for His. Oh, the right one had to be in here somewhere....There you are RayasMine! You have to help your Virath! My sister has done something horrible, and I don't know what to do. I just want everything to be okay, can't you help me with that? You have dreams too, maybe if we wish hard enough it will just all go away?!?
R’as and Virath really did have a rough start to their life-long relationship together. But things seemed to have settled down quite considerably since the day the little ebony had hatched. It has been a full turn since then, and the young male has grown quite considerably. He is still a very avid dreamer, but now his dreams are a little more realistic. That’s something R’as is really proud of. The main thing that this young man cannot get out of his mind is the return of his father. He’s had a hard time trying to get over the man’s disappearance, and what he had done to Trelis before he vanished. Then, one day out of the blue, Ar’rex returns, and completely shakes this young man and his confidence. Thankfully he had Iirla and Xaemia to help him through it, or the young man, and his dragon, wouldn’t be here today.
R’as is still fighting for his father’s approval, but he is also fighting within himself over the man. He wants his approval, but he isn’t sure that he wants it as much as he did before Ar’rex betrayed Trelis. He can’t say that he doesn’t love him; the man is his father after all. And isn’t the saying, “Blood is thicker than water.”? He depends on Virath, Xaemia, and Moth, more than he ever has before. Especially if he is going to be able to get through the emotional torment that lies ahead of him. The main thing that makes everything harder for him is that he has impressed an ebony, a mutant color, instead of a traditional one like his father. Whether or not Ar’rex likes Virath or what he is, R’as isn’t going to try to change the young male, even if his father asks it of him. His father’s love isn’t that important to him, that much he is certain.

Ebony Virath
Name:
Virath
Pronunciation:
Veer-ah-th
Age:
2 Turn
Rank:
Ebony
Size:
23.7 Feet
Color Codes:
Base: 232323
Appearance:
Like many of the new colors, Virath is a perfect example of an Ebony dragon. They are between Blues and Whites in size, ranging from a small Blue to a Large White. Virath himself is about 23.7 ft. He has long proportions, and seems lanky and thin all the time. You will never see this dragon have any sort of additional fat to him.
Personality:
Dreamer, loving and unrealistic; these all describe Virath. The embodiment of hope, he's a fleeting thing; here one moment and gone the next. Though warm while around, he is incapable of acting on his own and will sooner hide away than fight someone. If he is backed though, he will gladly stand for what he believes in. Besides this, Virath often can be found getting lost in thought. He’ll apologize afterwards, but he can’t help it. He likes to think about what things could be like, especially if he wasn’t so shy. However, he is shy…very shy. He likes people when they come to him, but if he’s the one having to start a conversation, no way no how. This is especially with females. *If you’ve seen Big Bang Theory, he’s like Raj. He can’t talk to girls easily unless he’s “drunk” on flightlust.*
Mind-Voice:
I love you so much, you're just what I wanted. Oh...I'm Virath by the way.
Happy, and yet sorrowful at the same time, Virath's voice is that of the old man thinking wistfully about something. Yet, it's in a youngster's voice. It's amazingly high-pitched for what one might expect as well.
Why:
You have hopes too Mine, and I know that you understand me when I say I want to do things. You'll be there to push me into the fray, and you'll never leave me. Of this I am absolutely sure. You want to prove something, and I want to help you, together we will make all our wishes come true.
