She couldn’t help but grin as the bluerider laughed. She had to admit, he looked younger and seemed so much more approachable when he laughed. She could almost drop her guard when he looked so friendly. Almost. The moment didn’t last long however, in the blink of an eye his face was expressionless once more. It had almost been quick enough that Nymari almost doubted it had been real.
“Much appreciated.” She gave a joking curtsy as she replied. He may be a scary old man, but it seemed there was some fun left in him. Of course, then he went and opened his big mouth and the smile dropped from her face to be replaced with a cross of disbelief and mild nervousness. He had to be joking of course. There was no way he managed to convince every girl who passed his way to have fun with him. At the same time though… some of the girls here were pretty weak. He could throw one over his shoulder and kidnap her if he wanted. Nym shook her head. There was no way he was that bad… right? Either way, he was getting uncomfortably close now.
“Something else would be lovely.” The doubt was there in her voice again, as if she didn’t believe he wasn’t going to try something now. Her expression didn’t mirror her voice however. Her eyes were sharp and rebellious, and her entire being screamed confidence. “You know what would be really fun? If you stayed where you are, and I stayed where I am, and then we chatted about all the exciting things life has to offer.” As it was, he was only a couple strides away from her now, much to close for her preferred style of fighting.
In the air, Iyiath squawked in surprise as Myth blinked behind him to tag him back. That wasn’t fair! Not at all! He twisted, chasing after the new position of the blue, trying to use his speed to overcome the blatant advantage betweening brought. He would have tried to blink himself if not for Nym’s mind pressed against his own, keeping him in check. “He doesn’t have to play fair you know. Iyiath is getting exercise anyways and that’s all that natters to me.”

Once again, K'dri took note of how his laughter made Nymari smile. Odd... people usually did seem friendlier when he laughed... he couldn't for the life of him figure out why, however. It was the strangest thing! Thankfully, his laughter died quickly, so he didn't have to ponder that particular conundrum for long.
She gave a curtsy in return to his bow, and he grinned. This time, however, his grin was not cruel or scary, but... somewhat friendly. He was finding himself warming up to the Weyrling rather quicker than he warmed up to anyone, and it was rather terrifying. But then, they did share a love of knife fighting... maybe that was it. She was, however, also rather sarcastic and dry, which he liked... Shards! His eyes turned to ice again. He couldn't let her get him off his guard.
"Something else? What do you suggest?" Her answer followed rather shortly, and he couldn't stop himself from laughing again, this time for a longer period of time. "You call that fun? I think you've been a Weyrling for too long and have forgotten what the word 'fun' means," he countered. After all... he had his own idea of fun, and it involved putting Nymari in a totally uncomfortable position. By this time he had figured she fought by throwing her knives, so he took another step closer. "Even if I don't stay where I am... what are you expecting to happen? The world to end? I doubt it will."
Myth trumpeted happily as he outwitted the Amethyst. Age brought wisdom! But then K'dri's mind forced on his. Fine, no more jumping between? He'd just have to tire Iliath out with his superior endurance. After all, he could last almost all the way through an entire Threadfall, and the Amethyst was still young and hadn't had time to build up that kind of stamina. K'dri shrugged. "I don't want the dimglow going between too much and rattling his already rattled brains is all," he replied. A lie, of course. [/blockquote] [/blockquote]

She saw it. For just a moment there, the hardness of his gaze disappeared and he seemed friendly, approachable, warm even. It was brief, and he seemed to catch himself quickly enough, but Nym knew she hadn’t imagined it. Perhaps he wasn’t so difference from herself. Maybe he was simply used to being distrustful and assuming others were best avoided. It didn’t really explain why he was so interested in keeping her there, unless it really was because of the dragon. Wouldn’t it be interesting if he turned out to be a big softy underneath it all.
“Well it was worth a shot. I’m afraid I’m a terribly boring person. In fact, you’d be much better off ignoring me.” It seemed he was adamant about getting close and he was beyond correct in thinking it made her uncomfortable, though perhaps not for the reasons he may have been thinking. Sure, Nymari much preferred to have distance between her enemies and herself in order to use her throwing daggers, but she had spent much of her life training to be a guard. She could fight in close combat, she just preferred not to. After all, Nym knew her weakness was in her size, and while she was nimble enough to be able to win now and again, it was safer to kill her enemies before they got too close.
“The world might end for one of us.” She replied coolly. “I simply thought keep a respectful distance was common courtesy. I guess they don’t believe the same thing wherever you come from.” She may have been speaking more now than she had been initially, but she wasn’t going to warm up to him until he allowed her to relax, and with the ever closing distance that was becoming an impossibility. Her eyes sparkled in amusement at the bluerider’s reasoning for keeping Myth from betweening.
“Aren’t you thoughtful?” Still, she reached out to her amethyst anyways, her eyes taking on the look all riders had when they spoke to their dragons. Don’t let him taunt you into wasting energy Iye. Use thermals when you can and lie about being tired if you have to. I want you to keep enough energy to get us out of here if need be. The amethyst rumbled and twisted, adamant about catching the old dragon now. He aimed for the blue's tail, trying to snap it gently in his teeth.
“Now that you’ve shot down my idea of fun, you know it’s only fair to share your own.”

They weren't so different, the two of them. She wasn't used to trusting people, he wasn't used to trusting people... they weren't so different. K'dri was simply hardened. He had a rock-hard shell around him that took some breaking, but somehow Nymari was cracking it, revealing the true man underneath. He didn't want her to see, but she was slowly breaking away his shell... just by being herself.
He couldn't understand it for the life of him.
Myth bugled happily in a sort of draconic laugh. His was having some trouble with Iyiath's, and Myth was glad for it! She was breaking through his exterior and she didn't even realize it! The Blue found himself cheering for Iyiath's Own, cheering for her to find the real K'dri under his skin. His was truly very nice when he wasn't trying to be mean... He hoped Iyiath's would realize that before she shoved a knife in between K'dri's ribs. She certainly seemed to be capable...
K'dri smiled happily, and chuckled. "The world won't end for either of us. Trust me. I'm not going to knife you, and I'm going to hope to Faranth that you're not going to knife me, either. And please. Common courtesy is to, perhaps, shake hands," he told her, offering his hand to her. "And yes, I can be rather thoughtful at times. Can't you?" He teased, eyes glimmering.
Myth slashed his tail directly to the right and cut across the Amythyst's path, abruptly changing directions and avoiding getting "tagged" by the younger dragon. The Blue corkscrewed, folding his wings in for maximim speed, and then spread them again to propell himself up higher into the air, where he could do just as Nymari had said to Iyiath-- catch a thermal. Riding the breeze, he executed a backwards loop, hoping to land himself behind the Amethyst.
"Hm..." K'dri mused. "How about this?" Dropping his hand, he closed the gap between them and gently kissed the girl before pulling back. "See?" He asked, eyes bright. "Fun, right?" [/blockquote] [/blockquote]

“I won’t knife you unless you give me reason to,” She said flatly. Of course she had self-control, it was one of the things a knife wielder needed to survive. After all, she couldn’t go throwing her knives away unless she needed to. Other than his slow approach, which had him just an arm’s length away, he hadn’t given her any reason to take action. Though, truth be told if brandishing her knives would get him to back away, she would do it, but she knew he wouldn’t back down to that. “I suppose I can be when I feel like it.” She rolled her eyes. At least this older rider was pleasant enough to talk to, humorous even.
Myth may have thought such a maneuver was clever, but Iyiath was built for sharp turns and aerial stunts. The young male tucked his wings and twisted his body like a snake to face the other way. The drop in height was something that needed work, as he would have possibly caught the blue if not for the lost altitude. Spreading his wings, he looped back towards the blue for a second shot.
Nymari stared at the offered hand. He was right, a handshake was one of the most common forms of courtesy. Was she willing to put her hand in his for that brief moment. It would open her up to be pulled off balance, to catch her off guard. Would he though? She lifted her left hand, her weaker arm, and was about to hold it out for him when the bluerider seemed to decide she had taken too long. Suddenly lips were pressed against hers and she couldn’t stop herself from gasping in surprise. There were things she had been prepared for; him pulling a knife of moving to attack her, but she certainly hadn’t prepared for this particular type of attack!
As he pulled away, leaving a wide eyed, blushing weyrling, he would no doubt noticed the knife tip pressed against his stomach. He may have caught her off guard, but her instincts were still sharp and quick. It took her a moment to get over the surprise, but finally, with a shake of her head she leveled a good glare at the man. “Yeah sure, if taking advantage of weyrlings is fun.” Which, clearly, she wasn’t seeing as fun at all. She kept her knife where it was, pressing slightly in a way that clearly said ‘try it again and I won’t hesitate to stab you’.

"Don't worry," he replied cooly, eyes dark. "I'm not going to give you any reason for you to stick me with something pointy..." He trailed off, eyes looking to the sky, enjoying his private, perverted little joke to himself. If anyone was going to be doing the poking... he couldn't help the grin that spread across his face.
Myth was rather startled that Iyiath was able to twist so quickly, and stay even with him. The blue longed to pop between again, but K'dri's grip on his mind was firm, so instead he finished his loop, corkscrewing to the side, only to find Iyiath right in his way. Myth was tagged!
She lifted her left hand, and K'dri raised his eyebrows, drawing his eyes down from the sky to the ground. His right hand was extended, and she was extending her left... did she not understand how a handshake was supposed to work? Right hand shook right hand, left hand shook left hand. Was this Weyrling as stupid as she looked? Of course not! He knew she was extending her left hand because she was right handed and had the hunch that she still might need to fight! That was when K'dri decided to kiss her.
When he drew back, he was satisfied to see a wide eyed, blushing woman staring back at him. He was not so satisfied to feel the tip of her dagger pressed against his belly. She was sending her message loud and clear. If he tried to kiss her again, she would stab him. "Don't be so cruel!" He replied breezily. "You're blushing as red as a garnet. You obviously liked it. So put your dagger away and let's try that again, eh?" [/blockquote] [/blockquote]

Had he really just…? She tried to stop blushing, she really did, but it was something beyond her control! But beside that, how could he just go and do that? “I.. no I didn’t! And I will not put away my dagger, you… you scandalous cad!” She retorted, actually giving in to her subconscious and taking a step back; anything to put some space back between them, a hand shooting up to her cheek to feel just how warm her face was.
“I am not the kind of girl who goes around kissing every rider she bumps into.” She looked truly offended by the event, and by his ‘offer’ to do it again, though the look was rather destroyed by the fact she was turning even redder. She couldn’t help it! Sure, she had kissed men before. But it had been after a lot of flirting… not to mention it was people she had gotten to know over time! In the end, she was still a holdbred girl with at least some holdbred morals. “Why would you even do such a thing?”
Iyiath crooned down at his rider with worry, certainly keeping an eye on her now that her emotions were in such disarray. He did, however, put his all into using thermals and quick, snake-like turns to try to avoid Myth, pleased with himself for having out-flown the old blue.

"Scandalous cad?" He asked with a grin. "Who on Pern uses that kind of dirty talk these days?" His grin widened as Nymari took a step back and raised her hand to feel the warmth on her face. Well! He had certainly caught her off guard, that was for sure. Good, good. He hadn't wanted to do anything that she would be expecting, after all. That took all the fun out of it!
At her offended look that simply turned bad, K'dri burst out laughing. "Of course you don't kiss every rider you bump into... that's my job!" He exclaimed with another laugh. "A joke, of course, my dear lady. I'm sure neither of us runs around kissing everyone we meet. That would be simply foul!" Laughing again, he smiled. "And I did it... because I wanted to. Well, and you're pretty."
K'dri grinned again, and threw up his hands in mock defeat. "What can I say? I'm a sucker for pretty ladies."
Myth took advantage of Iyiath's distraction. The Amethyst was keeping one eye on his rider, which left Myth with some open space. Pumping his wings, he raised himself higher than Iyiath, who was still snaking above him, before dropping down on the other male like a bird of prey. No distractions! “Dirty talk? Apparently you need to pay more attention to your harper lessons,” She replied, with a huff of annoyance. As if she would talk dirty to this kind of man! She rolled her eyes at his attempt at a joke, somehow doubting he was as innocent as he was claiming to be. She rolled her eyes a second time as he then went on to validate his actions with a compliment. Well! She certainly wasn’t the kind of girl who would swoon over a compliment! Even if she did like being complimented from time to time. Well, he was likely lying anyways to get her to drop her guard!
“Well then you should go find yourself a pretty lady and leave me be.” She continued. She knew she was rather easy on the eyes, but she was no lady. She was a guard, a killer, and a rider. “Though how anyone would fall for a kiss stealing pervert like you, I don’t know!” Nymari took another step back and allowed her knife to drop away from his stomach. He hadn’t gotten the point, hadn’t he?
On the bright side, at least he seemed to be smiling and laughing more. He was almost bearable when his expression softened like that. His laughter was even contagious enough to bring a slight smile to her face.
Iyiath squawked in protest as the full weight of the blue dragon barreled into him, and for a moment he had to flail to regain his balance. I wouldn’t be distracted if YourOwn would stop doing such nasty things to Mine! She doesn’t like it! He hissed at the blue, turning to land. Surely His needed him to step in!
