It took everything in his power not to rub at his temple as one of the girls, the one who hadn't bothered to give her name, came storming up to her, clearly unhappy about sending her pets away. There was at least one in every group; stubborn, headstrong, believed they were the centre of the universe. In other words, a troublemaker. He knew her type. They would rant and rave about they were above everyone else, how they could ignore the rules because they were magically better than everyone else. No doubt she was trying to prove some sort of point by approaching him, but if she wanted to be taken seriously she would be going about it the wrong way.
He ignored her, looking out over the pots as some of the other candidates began doing as they were told, and soon enough she was turning to leave, no doubt expecting him to respond. His 'daughter' approached soon after that and with a quick pat on the head he thanked her for her thoughtfulness and took the klah, gulping it down thankfully. As she introduced herself though, his expression warred between a tiny smile of pride at how grown up she acted and a scowl at being addressed as Papa in front of his class. He would have to have a talk with her about how to address him at work, but at the moment he had better things to do than pick on an eight Turn old girl about titles.
"I can't have any until after the lesson," He replied quietly as Iro came to stand by him. He wanted to have some, but truth be told he didn't quite trust the strength of whatever was in the cook's skin. It wouldn't do him any good to lose control mid-lesson. "I never said who it would be fun for, look at all the joy this is bringing me." The expression on J'degar's face said it all; he hated this and he was, without a doubt, going to hunt down Samara for skipping out on her duties and landing him in this spot. "Now go help out so we can be finished with this faster." Another glance out over the group. It seemed most had sent away their pets and just about all of them had begun finding places around the pots.
"The first and most important thing about being a rider is not your flying ability, it is your ability to follow orders." He finally called out to the candidates, standing in a place where he could see them all without having to turn to see any of them. He wasn't trying to single out any of them really, the ones who would be singled out were doing it on their own. "For those of you who are willing to follow instructions, congratulations, you're one step closer to being a rider. For those of you unable to follow simple instructions, you will be paying a trip to Candidatemaster Samara's office after the evening meal today to discuss the end of your candidacy."
That was a partial lie. It would take more than one transgression to be kicked out of candidacy, but the threat was there. Not to mention he would likely get to dish out some punishments. Oh joy!
Firo rolled his eyes as Linda approached their 'master. Leave it to a woman to act out against such simple instructions. No doubt she was only confident when she had a fair of flits to protect her. Maybe if they were forced away she would cry! Wouldn't that be a sight to see. Of course, Annaliese got an outright glare of hatred from Firo. That stupid girl not only stole his father, but now was worming her way into the lessons too? Infuriating! He didn't particularly care where he ended up pot wise, so he picked the nearest one. He wanted to act out, comment on Linda's pathetic behavior, but he knew it would only land him in trouble right now, and he was going to show how a proper candidate behaved!
"You should come make numbweed with us," Cayin grinned at Geso. Lehr blinked back from between, landing on Cayin's shoulder after dropping the handkerchief in the young man's hand. He was breathing heavily, having tired himself out carrying the large piece of cloth and Cayin reached up to rub him lovingly. Of course, that was when J'degar spoke about going to the candidate's office. Oh no! He had gotten in trouble again! With a groan, he willed Lehr to go to the sidelines and move towards Liam's pot.
"I'm in trouble again Li..." He sighed sadly as he tied the cloth around his mouth, well aware of how horrible numbweed could be.
