It was several hours after the hatching of Aristide's new fire lizard before he realized he still didn't know what color she was. He only knew she was a female because of the feminine feel of her mind, and baby flitters were so small anyway it was virtually impossible to tell based on size. Not that it was particularly important to him what rank she was, but it was one of those things he'd better find out sooner rather than later. Especially if it could lead to clutches he could sell for marks.
She had hatched in his room with only himself, Zexx and Kaleo for company. Zexx unfortunately could not speak, and though Kaleo occassionally sent him flashes of sight from the huntyre's eyes, the lunar was allergic to being helpful and never did so when it could actually be useful. Regal was beginning to wake again, anyway, quickly becoming hungry, so he thought now was as good a time as any to figure it out. He plucked her up from where she lay on his bed and cradled the fire lizard in one arm while Kaleo claimed his shoulder for a perch.
He let Zexx stay behind this time; his usefulness as a guide-dog was limited still due to his age and since he was only planning to go down to the kitchen, he knew the route well enough to get by on his own. The halls were likely to be nearly deserted at this time of day anyway, but there was always someone around the dining hall. With two flitters accompanying him, he made his way down to the dining hall. Regal had fully woken up by now and was making her hunger known with her voice.
Aristide raised his own voice to be heard over her. "Anyone around here want to help a blind man feed a fire lizard?"
