B'den's lips turned down at Skye's snicker. There was no way he was that bad. What was she laughing at? He crossed his arms. "Well, yeah," he said slowly. "If you want me to."
While she seemed to relax when she was talking about her parents, B'den hadn't been harper-trained for nothing; he could tell it wasn't something she liked talking about. In fact, she seemed downright nervous about his reaction, though he could understand the reasoning behind the way she grew up. "Well, obviously it worked," he said with a shrug. "You know what they say about all work and no play, though..." He smiled.
To tell the truth, he hadn't been that much different, even if the goal he was aiming for was to be a Harper, rather than Impressing a dragon. He'd spent as much of his free time locked away in the records room or the classroom as he did with other people. Getting Searched and Impressing Kohenkyoth had been largely accidental.

Skye looked at B’den and was very surprised that he didn’t seem inclined to laugh at her like everyone else had. She wasn’t expecting such a calm reaction to the fact that she didn’t really have a normal childhood, and that she didn’t really want one. She tilted her head to the side at his words and wasn’t exactly sure how to respond. Not entirely no. Now she felt like a little child who had just gotten caught doing something they weren’t supposed to. In all her turns she had never felt quite like this before and wasn’t sure she liked it either. Kivith, on the other hand, was more amused than her rider seemed to be. Then again, there was a lot about the woman’s peculiarities that amused the small green. Oh well, one way to look at this situation was that B’den now had Skye’s attention.

B'den raised an eyebrow. "'All work and no play makes Skye a very dull girl,'" he quoted with a grin, then shrugged and continued. "Or B'den a dull boy." He noticed she looked surprised at his response and figured he'd elaborate.
"I grew up in the Harper Hall, and I admit I spent a lot of my free time locked away looking at records or practising music. I didn't always get along with the other kids in the Hall. Getting searched was kind of by accident; actually, I mostly accepted because I knew it would annoy my father." He grinned. "He doesn't like dragonriders much."

Skye raised a confused eyebrow at B’den and shook her head a little. So you had never really wanted to be a rider at first did you? Her voice was soft, but it was obvious that she was intrigued. It seemed to her that he really did love his dragon, but why would someone want to annoy their father so much that they would attempt to become something that obviously displeased their father. She shook her head, and realized that Kivith was right. She really did learn something new every day she lived. Now she was learning that surprises came in all shapes and sizes. She looked over at the dancing tent and then back at B’den. Shall we at least go enjoy the music? She was more interested in finding a place to sit down so she could learn more of this strange green rider.

B'den shook his head. "Not for a long time. It gets kind of complicated. I'm sure you don't want to hear my whole sordid history, though," he said with a grin. He nodded gladly at her suggestion. His legs were beginning to get tired from all the walking around. Kohenkyoth had it good, being able to lounge around in her weyr back home while simultaneously listening in on the conversation.
"That sounds good," he agreed, as Kohenkyoth gave a mental snort at his thoughts.
Exercise is good for you, B'den, the green stated.
Quiet, you.

Skye tilted her head curiously at his words and wondered what he meant. She smiled as they neared the tent and, trying to be funny, bowed slightly to B’den. After you. There was something about her voice that sounded a bit teasing, and she wondered if he would catch it or not. She knew more than one man that would rather swim through dragon dung than let a woman hold a door open for them when it wasn’t really needed. Be nice Mine, he is being nice to you. Kivith was shaking her head at Hers and had been keeping an eye on what was going through their bond. Skye just ignored her dragon’s words and waited to see what B’den would do.

Skye seemed like a fairly quiet person, and B'den found himself wondering more about her life, but since she hadn't seemed eager to talk about herself earlier, B'den thought it best not to pry. He did like her, though, from what he knew so far. He realized, as they approached the tent, that he should probably move ahead to hold the door for her, but despite his quickened steps, she got there before he did.
He grimaced as she bowed and waited for him to go through; she had gotten there first, though by custom it would have been his job. In the end, he compromised; he frowned disapprovingly at her, though he hoped the light tone of her voice would let her know he was teasing as he said, "Alright, but let it be known it's under protest. I was trying to get there first." He winked at her to soften the blow further as he stepped through.
It's a silly, pointless tradition anyway. She's a smart one, Kohenkyoth interjected--the first positive thing she'd said about Skye, and B'den was a bit surprised.
