He didn't really want to help her out. Not at all. But he did understand that she wouldn't leave him alone until she got what she came for. He grunted as she shook her head, obvious in her disapproval of his guess. Well she was an idiot if she thought he was going to guess until he got it right. As the flit hissed at him, he glared right back. His look was wary still however, and he kept glancing to the one on the branch above him.
"Look brat. I ain't gunna play yer guessin game. I don't really care what y'named that mutt." He rolled his eyes, movign a hand to pat his leg, a signal Gray recognised as easily as her own name. The female stopped in her games, panting a moment, before trotting back to her owner's side to nuzzle into Korvin's side.
"See, she has a name, but a signal works just as well." He rubbed Gray behind the ear in praise of her good behavior. "Oh n' keep yer little snakes away. Gray won't hesitate t'snap 'em outta the air."

Talian didn’t want him to play a guessing game, she just wanted him to get what she was trying to tell him. But seeing as none of her pets could speak and neither could she for that matter, things were getting a little more complicated than she would have liked. She looked over when she heard the man pat his leg and watched amazed as his dog came trotting back to him. She wanted Princess to be like that, but she still felt that the little pup still needed a name that others could recognize her by. Then he started talking about her firelizards. She still didn’t understand why he kept calling them snakes though. She looked over at Chef and had him send the man a picture of a tunnel snake and gave the man a confused look. Again she didn’t know if he would understand her or not but it was worth a shot.
(((OOC: Again I am really sorry Zi.)))

He scratched at Gray's jaw, amused by the way her tongue was hanging from her mouth. It had felt like too long since she had been free to simply play; Boar wasn't always the playing type, and though he would entertain her occaisonally he was still trying to fight off his illness and hadn't had the strength to play in a long time. The thougt made Korvin sad... somewhere in the back of his mind he was beginning to accept that the old male might not recover, but another part of him still held out hope. He shook his head as the girl's sharding flits invaded his mind once more. However, unlike the previous times, he understood what the image was this time - a tunnelsnake. He hated the things... slippery, sneaky... he had woken up many a night after getting bitten and he had lost caches of food to the buggers before. All in all, tunnelsnakes had become his mortal enemy. What was the relevance to their... 'conversation' though. Or was the stupid brat offended because he didn't use the fancy name for her pets. Ah.. that was probably it. Korvin supposed he could just say his guess out loud and let her glare at him if he was wrong again. "A snake's a snake. I don' care if they've got wings or extra legs." Sure, firelizards hadn't really bothered him except for the mind invading, but they LOOKED similar to tunnelsnakes (if a bit more colourful) and he didn't like them. A thought hit him then and he looked at Talian as if he was measuring her up. As far as he was aware, the Weyr had harpers to teach the kids 'important lessons'. If that was true, was this girl old enough to attend those lessons? No harm in asking, he supposed. "Why don' ya just write 'er name down?"

Talian rolled her eyes at the man and shook her head at his words. She really thought he was hopeless but she had always been taught to keep trying and she figured that as much as this man might be a lost cause, she might as well give it one more try. She looked at him curiously as he spoke, and a light-bulb seemed to have light up inside of her eyes. But that’s when she realized she had nothing to wright with, or on for that matter. She plopped down on the ground and sighed sadly. How was she supposed to tell this man anything if she couldn’t even write?! Ruby crooned softly to Hers and crawled down into the girls lap. Princess had trotted over and was now sitting beside the young child with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth and she looked quite pleased with herself actually.
Talian scratched the young pup’s ears just has she had learned Princess liked with one hand, and with the other she gently stroked Ruby’s garnet back. Chef was still on the branch above Korvin’s head. The man smelled funny and he wasn’t exactly sure why. He wanted to taste him, but the feelings he got from His held him firmly to the branch. He was still chittering to himself and turning his head from side to side as he looked and sniffed at this strange man. Talian wanted to tell the man that she couldn’t write her puppies name because she had nothing to write with, but if she could talk then she could just teach her dog its name herself and she wouldn’t have to have this silent argument with this strange man with the pretty gray dog that seemed so smart. She wanted Princess to be like that, but how could a mute child teach a dog to be that obedient?

From the way the girl sat down defeated, Korvin could assume she either didn’t know how to write, or just couldn’t do it right now. Maybe it was that she had nothing to write on? The hunter, of course, had no writing equipment on him; he didn’t know how to use it anyways, but many a night had been spent scratching out rough maps on the floors of caves.
“Here, y’can write can’t ya?” He grumbled, picking up a nearby stick and tossing it at her. “Dirt’s as good as anythin’ else fer this.” He just wanted her gone! He didn’t know how to handle annoying women who didn’t know how to speak their minds! Though, admittedly, Talian was trying. Gray stretched and lay down on the ground, watching the pup with curiosity.
{Sorry its short ><}

Talian looked up at Korvin when he spoke and nodded. She was curious as to what this strange man had in mind when he had asked if she could write. She jumped and barely caught the stick he had tossed at her. Ruby wasn’t at all happy at the sudden disturbance and had taken to the air when Talian jumped. She landed on the girl’s head and started chittering angrily and hissed at the man that had caused it. Princess yelped a little at the commotion but was otherwise unaffected. Talian nodded her head vigorously at Korvin’s words and then slowly started to write her canine’s name in the dirt. She jumped up and down happily and clapped her hands when she had finished, but this time she was a little more careful not to disturb her garnet firelizard too much.
