Kiona was done with her daily chores for the day for the new Fishercraft Master. It was near dusk and a cool sea breeze emerged from the ocean. The girl appreciated nature and liked to spend time alone with the sea and everything in it. She breathed in the ocean air and smiled. It reminded her of a beach in some remote area on Pern. Kiona saw a dolphin come up for air, jumped and went back in with a faint splash just within earshot. She was excited because the candidate never saw a sunset before, or a sunrise for that matter. A sea gull cried over head which flew to the cliff near by to roost for the night. Nothing could make this evening bad, well all except the new Master.
The new Master approached behind her as she was about to sit down on the dock to enjoy the sunset.
"You girl! Get to work! I need you to cook for me!" He shouted.
"No. I will not be a drudge again. Cook for yourself!" Kiona rolled her eyes and hissed at him. Now that she was free, Kiona would not be put in that position again. "You have two hands and an able body!"
"You will pay for you insolence!" The Master reached for his whip on his hip and whipped her. The girl tried not cry out but he kept on doing it over and over again. Kiona let out a cry of pain. At first it was quiet, but the more he did it...the more she cried out.

Why are we out here again PanMine?
The greenrider shook her head, unwilling to say exactly what had been on her mind when she had packed a small bag of food and decided to go out for a while. No one would notice that she was missing, not when riders were constantly popping in and out trying to find candidates willing to join the rebellion. They had eggs on those sands though, however Panille could honestly care less. She just needed out of the place she had gone to to get out of her old "home."
Speaking of candidates, there is one down there perhaps...somewhere.
The dragoness circled the area, her toxic green wings beating against the air in strong downward sweeps. How long had it been since she had found a candidate to grace the sands? Well, too long. After all, she and Hers used to be in charge of the candidates back at Ista, and then of course those same Weyrling at Trelis before she left. Escaped. I escaped Trelis, I didn't leave. Well, she didn't entirely escape, she had wiggled her way out and was chased with her...friend, lover? What exactly did you call the thief who she had followed here? Panille wasn't quite sure, and again she decided to not care in light of thinking of something else.
It's a girl, I can tell that much. I'll let you off, just make it quick. I'm growing bored.
Yes my dear Iliath, I'll try to placate your needs and be in as much of a hurry about this as possible. Probably will pick out the wrong one and everything. The green snorted as she flicked her tail, her breath ruffling the red waves of her rider's hair. Something is wrong...what's that noise...why is someone...she's in pain! The green hissed low, her tongue snaking out to taste the air as her eyes grew red. Panille narrowed her own eyes, knowing full well what the dragon had heard, it had reached her own ears as she grew closer to the source of the sound.
Pulling a dagger from her belt, the rider rounded a corner and kicked her foot into a box of fish sending it scattering into another closer to the fisher and the young girl he was hurting. "Hey, dimglow, piece of tunnelsnake filth! She's been searched, so get your grimy hands off of her before I make you....unless you wanna see just how close I can get this dagger to the middle of your head...or better yet, between your legs should hurt much more and keep you alive while feeling that pain too." From where the green had landed Iliath let out a high pitched scream, the sound shaking the objects nearby. "Excuse me, I thought I told you to let her go."

Kiona was down on her hands and knees now it hurt so bad. Each whip mark stung like someone drove salt into it.
"Mind your business, Woman!!" He hissed. "Searched, eh? This little one isn't going anywhere. The girl has work to do!"
"He lies! I'm finished with the chores for the day.." Kiona's eyes pleaded for help. She was wincing from the pain of being whipped so much. The marks on her back were cut deep from him using that weapon too much. A twisted grin appeared on his face. He was enjoying this way too much.
"Shut-up, girl!" another crack of his whip to her back. Another cry out in pain. "Cook for me!" He commanded. His voice was booming in her mind. Every time it sounded, Kiona winced. She didn't have enough strength to fight back so she tried to run toward Iliath.
"Where are you going, little missy? I'm not through with you yet." he started to wrapped the whip around her ankle.

Roxikanta was comfortable on her mighty Garnet's back, they circled the little town. There wasn't a big reason to come and land until- Hold on Mine. I am landing. That...that child needs aid. NOW!
Red body plummeted down, growling lowly and quite viciously. Red haired Roxikanta landed neatly onto her feet, eyes mimicking the blazes of her bonded's.
"Get away from her." Steel and ice were in her voice. If the man came at her, she had a very mad 33 foot Garnet, and a handsome dagger at her side.
"You better pray to Farenth right now, to have mercy on your soul." Her jaw was clinched, she wanted to take that damn whip and wrap it round nice and tight on his neck.
Gingerly, she stood between this bastard and Kiona. If he took a step closer, she'd kill him. Then she knelt near the girl. "Listen to me, I am going to take you to my home. Rindell. You will be under not only my protection but the weyr's."
"Raise that whip one more time and you'll ge in my Garnet, Auerosth's, belly" That was a lie. Auerosth would never hurt anyone, not to the extent of eating. He'd much rather play. But right now his fangs were bared and he was snarling toward the man.

Well if he won't eat the mite I certainly will!
The devious laughter that rolled from Iliath's mind as she bent and curled her tail around the child was a dark thought that passed to them all. Panille simply sighed and shook her head, thankful at least for the arrival of the second dragon. "Honestly Rox, I thought you'd never get here. Iliath said you two might be in the area." She looked from the other red haired rider to the man who had the whip in his hand. "Now, I was hoping you'd just play along real easy like and just let us take her.....obviously we might have to play a little bit. Oh well, that's just fine by me."
The wicked grin on Panille's face was one she hadn't worn in a while. However, this was the rider who had been raised in a "family" of mis-matched kids that all had their own issues, this was the rider who had followed the oldest of that group into his battle for vengeance, shards this was the rider who flirted money away from men and had kidnapped children because she was told. Oh no, she hated men like this, it reminded her too much of her past. "Maybe I'll just kill you because I want to....that sounds great." Taking a step forward she twirled the dagger in her hand.
Not as a good as a bow and arrow, but it will work most surely.

The Master Fisher saw the two riders and one got in between him and Kiona. He narrowed his eyes at the Garnet rider. He looked in her eyes and dared to raise the whip. A crooked smile appeared on his lips. He thought they weren't going to do anything because the riders were female. He thought wrong. The Master Fisher thought that all women were weak and the males would prevail over everything.
"The old Master wasn't like you!" Kiona spat angrily. There was that smile again on his face again. "He was kind and would never hurt his students."
"He was weak, just you femalesare. I have been known to break the strongest woman like I will with you, girl!" He tried to barrel through the Garnet rider to get to Kiona.
"That girl isn't going anywhere!" he hissed. He reached for the candidate and grabbed her arm. He started to pull her towards him. "I'm going make sure you don't runaway on me!"
"NOOOO!!! Please!! Let go of me!!!" Kiona cried out. She tried to pull away but she has no strength left.

Auerosth roared, actually snapping his jaws to sink arm length teeth into the man's back or arm or leg. Any part of him. You are a disgrace. I will kill you. You will DIE! This is your final chance.
Roxikanta stepped forward. "Release her."
Inside, her dragon's rage scared her. Auerosth never ever had acted this way...
She was not even a foot away, ready to snatched Kiona to her chest. She drew her dagger now. This is your final warning!!!!
Rider and dragon combined their voices "each sharing emotion and bodies and mind. Blood would spill.

"Couldn't have said it better myself Rox."
Panille could swear she was hissing right alongside with her green, Iliath's eyes a murderous red and the only thing keeping her at bay was Pan's will on her mind and body. He deserves nothing less than death. Let us tear him one limb from another! How dare he think us so weak, so pathetic. He is the pathetic one, he should learn! Now, Pan was all for teaching that lesson, but she wanted to do so slowly, not quickly. However, that wasn't entirely up to her now was it? Roxikanta and her Garnet were here and so was the girl.
"How about you take the girl and leave the man with me Rox? Trust me...he won't be getting off easy...not at all." A devious little grin crept across her lips as she took a step forward, her dagger twirling as she pulled out a second and held it in her other hand. "You know, I think playing a bit beforehand will be a good thing...except it will be you who's breaking, not her. Oh, definitely not her. She'll be giving a home, and she'll impress because if she's strong enough to survive you she's strong enough to bond to anything. Now, you'll let her go, and then you and me are going to have a nice little chit-chat."
The man wasn't going to go through another day alive, that was for sure, it was just a matter of how much longer he'd live as far as Panille was concerned. Spitting on the ground, the rider shook her head and took another step forward, Iliath snaking her tail behind her and cracking it against the earth like a whip. Oh, do let my talons sink into his flesh...that sounds so inviting.

The Master Fisher's eyes went wide as the Garnet just missed his leg. He thought of running but then again he wasn't very bright. Instead, his hand aimed for Auerosth's muzzle with his eyes closed. Weather he hit him or not, he didn't know. He screamed like a girl and ran as fast and far away the dragons as he could. Of course, being as scrawny as he was it didn't help any.
The man didn't look back. His arms were flailing and his legs were going what seemed like a mile a minute. He ran to several houses which he knocked on the doors.
"Help! Help me! I'm going to die!! Help!" he shouted. None answered his pleas. No doors opened. The residence knew what kind of man he was and wanted no part of his troubles. He soon panicked when he realized that he had no help from Nerat Hold. Without his whip, he was a sissy. He was powerless without it. He ran aimlessly throughout the night until.......

Roxikanta shivered as Auerosth snarled. Stop. We've done our part. Let us go.
For a moment, Auerosth focused blood red eyes on His, as if he would attack. Her eyes widened and she backed a step away. The fear sent over the bond hit the Garnet, his eyes turning confused whirls of yellow and blue.
Roxikanta tried to hide her shaking hands, and pulled Kiona to her. "I have you now." No one will ever hurt you again. We-I promise.
Dragon and rider spoke together, pledge ending in an almost quivering whisper.
Rox had returned her dagger, thankful she had no need for it. Now. It was home. This child... She'd developed a certain.... understanding. A likeness was what they shared. Worthless. Abandoned... Rox knew the feelings. Even the maid work. "I know the way you feel. I... I want you to know I understand. And I'm here... I'll always be your protector." And I'll be your friend!!
"You don't mind a dragon flight do you? That's the only way to get home."

Iliath wasn't so lenient, and she wasn't one to let someone go so easily when Hers was still seething with rage. No, the Garnet might have missed his mark, but as the man ran she took to the air and slammed into him, the conditioning of dragons don't hurt humans having been worked out of her through the turns as much as it never was in most Garnets. The man's screams were ended soon enough, his body going limp as his heart siezed from the terror of having a 20 something foot creature pinning him to the ground.
He wasn't worth the life.
"Enough Iliath, he's also not worth you getting your pretty hide bloodied. Come back now." The dragoness hissed at the lifeless body beneath her and slinked away, watching as some of the Holdsfolk finally came out and gathered the body, not particularly being careful about how they held it and certainly not shedding any tears over it either. Looking back at the girl and the garnetrider, Panille shook her head. "Gather your things. What is your name? I'm Panille, that's my green Iliath. I swear she won't hurt you." The green crooned a gentle note at her rider's words, acting the part of an angelic creature.

Kiona hid her face in Roxie's shoulder. She didn't want to see how the fisherman died, just the knowledge of the fact he was gone. Her entire body stung from the constant whipping. She was starved and dehydrated. This poor girl had been through quiet an ordeal. She was scared, hungry and tired. Plus her freedom had been taken from her in less than two weeks before Roxie and her dragon came. Every step she took felt like walking on needles.
After the incident was over, Kiona looked up in Roxikanta's eyes and gave her a huge hug. The girl nodded, silently. She felt a connection with Roxikanta, a kindred spirit. Kiona was all for leaving all of this behind. Kiona pushed gently off Rox and stumbled where the dead body was and sighed. Kiona clenched her fist and pounded it in the dirt. She was angry and rightfully so. The Candidate shook her head as thunder sounded in the distance. The girl went back to Rox and her dragon.
"Keep me safe, please?" she whimpered a little as she snuggled her face into Roxi's chest. Before the two dragonriders came, she had lost all hope. Now, that hope had been restored thanks to Rox and Pen. She owed a lot to the Garnet and Greenrider and their two dragons.
The ocean breeze tousled the girl's hair. "We better go...." she breathed in before getting the rest of the sentence out. "...before that storm hits the Hold." Her voice wavered a bit. The candidate gave a quick nod. "I am willing." she answered Roxi's previous question. The candidate gave Pan a quick hug and started a quick pat on Iliath's muzzle for thanking them as well.
Kiona reached out for Auerosth and Rox as she began to collapse. She could stand on her own but not for very long. The girl was thankful to be alive.
"....Kiona" she answered Pan's question as well.

Any other person might have shrank away from the girl, but... Rox just knew. Kiona... finally she had freedom, and frankly the girl had no idea what came next. Yes, there is a storm coming. RoxMine our friend shall ride the saddle. You can sit and hold my neck. I shall not drop you....
"Well Kiona, shall we go home? Auerosth will get us there safely." She wiped a tear from the girl's cheek with her thumb. Yes, things would be ok. Kiona's next words shocked Roxikanta slightly. "Yes...yes I promise."
She smiled and nodded. Thing would be all right...

Kiona nodded her head silently. Her stomach started to growl as loud as Auerosth's when he first arrived. The girl was exhausted. She yawned.
"....so hungry....hurts...." Kiona groaned in pain. She tried to stay awake, fearing that of she fell asleep she would never wake up. The girl was strong willed and stubborn.
"Home...." she said thoughtfully. Kiona didn't say much but that was to be expected. She was off a bit to say the least. She needed help and quickly.

Auerosth let out a worried whin, leaning down to sniff Kiona. Mine....MINE! Don't let her die. She's my friend, my sisterfriend. I like her and I want to keep her. Didn't we bring food? The garnet shuffled nervously, panting with an upset look on his face. His muzzle dipped into the bag on his side and pull out a snack they had brought. It was alittle dried meat, and water. Not much but certainly enough to hold the girl during their quick poof home. Rox was gentle in setting Kiona down, clearly hesitant to let her go. Her set the food in the girl's lap and went to the bag again. They would have to between. A long dragonflight would prove too hard to Kiona and the last thing they all needed was the girl to pass out of the saddle...
The red-head found a coat, a funny looking thing but a coat all the same. When Kiona ate alittle they'd leave. Rain drops sprinkled very faintly, making Auerosth sneeze. The droplets tickle my snout! He settled and pawed at his large red nose, snuffling and snuffling.
