Well, things in the rebellion were certainly different than in a regular Weyr. Nymari sighed, trying to enjoy the feeling of the wind in her hair as Iyiath flew them to the meeting place. Today was the day she would be meeting her new mentor, the rider who would be teaching her and Iyiath how to between on their own. She supposed that was one of the things she missed about the Weyr; weyrlingmasters. Here, her lessons were always with a different teacher, though most often Panille.
Truth be told, she hated this mentoring business only because she didn’t trust people right off the bat, and yet here she was being forced to completely trust a random stranger to teach her how to between, something that, if done wrong, would kill her. She hated it. Relax Nym, it’ll probably be fine. The mentors haven’t set us wrong this time. Maybe we’ll get that nice greenrider from last time?
The amethyst swerved, angling to land as they approached the meeting area. They were early, they usually tried to be, and after a moment Iyiath was backwinging to land. Slipping from the amethyst’s back, Nymari glanced around a moment before dropping lazily into the grass. Hopefully she could get a quick moment to relax before this mentor arrived. Of course, she kept her eyes and ears alert for the rider’s arrival.

K'dri wasn't happy. Oh, no. He was not happy at all. Things at the Rebellion were totally unorthodox and unorganized, and broke all traditions, as far as he was concerned. There were no Weyrlingmasters! None! Training of Weyrlings was done my individual mentors, and this time... it was him!
"I never signed up for this..." He growled as he tightened the riding straps on Myth's saddle, and pulled on a wherhide jacket. He would be teaching Nymari, of all the sharding Weyrlings, how to between today. "And of all the weyrlings to have to train!" He snapped. Myth only hummed. He was delighted at the chance to see his friend Iyiath again.
K'dri glared at the blue, who simply hummed again. "Oh, shut up," the rider muttered, affectionately rubbing his dragon's eye ridges. I am simply excited to teach, Mine. And to see Iyiath again. He is a very nice dragon. K'dri shrugged, and slung himself onto the blue's back. "Well, I'm not much of a teacher, so let's get this over with and pray we don't get them killed." Of course, he should have expected this. He was a "Second Knight," or as it was traditionally called, a Wingsecond, so it was natural that the higher-ups would want him to teach someone. He just wished it didn't have to be Nymari! He'd be distracted the whole time, and that would not help at all, with such an important lesson. If he taught her wrong, and she missed her mark, she could die. No distractions! Myth said, just as he had before to Iyiath. Stepping from their hollowed out hole-in-the-wall personal Weyr, Myth let himself catch a thermal and winged his way across the main camp to the training ground. Both K'dri and Myth, however, were able to spot Iyiath's bright hide from a good distance away. Slowing, Myth turned in lazy circles until he landed next to the Amethyst, crooning a greeting. K'dri slid from his dragon's back, removing his helmet and goggles as he did so. Resting the helmet under his arm and against his hip, he approached Nymari. "Doubtless you're as unhappy to see me as I am to find I'm supposed to teach you, but we're going to have to get over that. Someone has to teach you to properly go between and the advantages it brings in aerial combat, and I'm it. Did you bring your wherhide, helmet, and goggles?"[/blockquote] [/blockquote]

She heard the sound of wings long before she saw the blue hide, though the moment she recognized which particular blue it was her face contorted into a look of horror. Oh Faranth this had to be some sort of cruel, cruel joke! Had she really been paired up with him of all people? The horrible, kiss stealing, pervert of a man now had her life in his hands?! She groaned and rolled over in the grass, waiting for Myth to get closer before finally rising and giving Iyiath’s harness another check. If she was going to die, it at least wasn’t going to be a harness malfunction.
“Unhappy is an understatement, you perverted old man.” She snapped, uncomfortable more than angry. She wouldn’t put it past him to do something sneaky and underhanded to make her blush again, and she was not looking forward to the next few hours. She couldn’t even run away this time! She was wholly and truly stuck with him today. Oh come now Mine… he is not that bad, and Myth will make sure we are safe! The amethyst had come to trust Myth quite a lot; he was always trusting of any dragons that didn’t make fun of his gender or hide.
“I didn’t take you for the teaching type,” She added after a moment, scooping up her helmet and giving a dramatic point to it and her jacket. Of COURSE she had come prepared for her lesson. She was actually a hard worker when she wanted to be, and she certainly didn’t skip out when Iyiath’s life was on the line. Really though… what had she done to deserve this punishment?! The amethyst was in no way sharing her unhappiness. He quickly bugled a greeting to Myth, his body wiggling slightly in excitement.

K'dri snorted. "Perverted old man? Please. I'm not old. I'm simply older than you. And yes, unhappy is certainly an understatement for how feel as well." He should have expected this, but no. He had figured he'd be teaching some young male, not Nymari. "But fate's a cruel bitch, so let's get to work."
Indeed, this was a cruel, cruel joke, a disgusting twist of fate. "You're right. I'm not the teaching type. But I'm a sharding Second Knight, and this is apparently punishment from some higher power that wishes me to suffer. Put on your gear." Of course, he had known she would have it, but it was always best to check.
K'dri was also sure she would have double and tripple checked the harness, but he walked over to inspect it anyway, blue eyes noting every detail. Pulling on a few straps and buckles, he nodded. "Nice job with the harness," he told her, patting the girl on the shoulder before he realized what he was doing. Shards!
The man jumped as Iyiath bugled a greeting to Myth, who returned the sentiment with a rather long, unnecessary roar. K'dri glared at his blue before shaking his head. "I'm to understand you have gone between only once before, with another's picture to guide you. That's the first step, so get on that dragon's back and get up in the air."
Buckling his jacket, he sighed. "When we're in the air, I'm going to let Myth give you a picture. We'll jump a few times, to a few different places, with you and Iyiath using Myth's picture as a guide. No stunts, got it? This is dangerous business. If you've gotten the hang of it after a few jumps, then we'll work on going between on your own, with your picture."
K'dri didn't wait for a reply, but stalked away, pulling on helmet and goggles once more before he vaulted onto Myth's back. The blue lifted his wings and took off, circling, waiting for the Amethyst and his rider to get into the air before sending them a picture. [/blockquote] [/blockquote]

“Considerably older than me, old man.” She rolled her eyes. Truth be told she just didn’t want him to know how uncomfortable this made her. Although, she did suppose she at least knew this mentor. That was mildly calming, if only a little bit. She rolled her eyes though and continued sarcastically. “And here I thought you liked me. What a letdown.” Nonetheless, she made quick work of pulling her helmet and goggles as he looked over the straps. She knew it was his responsibility to make sure she had done it right, but did he really need to analyze so closely?
She tensed immediately the moment she felt his hand on her shoulder, and there was no way he had missed the subtle movement that meant she had a knife in her hands. “Did you expect any less of me Sir?” It was hard to stay annoyed with him as he jumped from Iyiath’s bugle though, and Nymari couldn’t stop herself from laughing. That such a stern man was so easily startled was, well, funny!
She was too busy laughing to give a proper response to his instructions, instead just giving a mock salute before pulling herself up into place and buckling herself in. Shards, she severely hoped this guy wasn’t going to kill her. Should we use our own image to be sure NymMine? The pink dragon mumbled privately to his rider. He may have trusted the dragon, but if His was uneasy then he was uneasy. No, you big lug. I’m all for shirking out of chores, but he must be a wingsecond or whatever for a reason. We’ll use his image and hope to Faranth he doesn’t want us dead.
The young amethyst spread his wings and took off after the blue, moving into a position to the side and behind of K’dri, as they would in a regular wing. Well, he hadn’t specified whether they were to follow behind him or anything, so hopefully this would be fine. Somehow she didn’t doubt he would be quick to reprimand if need be. He has sent the image Mine. Iyiath mentioned quickly before passing the image on to his rider. She studied it nervously, once again hoping things would go well before having Iyiath sending their mentor the message that they were ready. Hopefully, this would not be the last time she saw the light of day.
