He had known she had a fire-lizard, but hadn't thought she would actually offer to call it. K'dri was not a fan of the little flitters, thinking them to be an extreme annoyance. If he ever found any eggs, he'd kill them. ...or give them to Nymari, if she wanted them. Either way, there was no chance in hell that he was going to try and get one of his own. They were obnoxious.
K'dri smiled when Nymari refused the dagger, but took it anyway. She was awed, it was clear. "The girliest, and the best, I'll wager. That's the finest blue tempered steel that marks can buy, m'dear." She tested the balance, though K'dri knew it was unnecessary. It was perfectly balanced, and sharp enough for a man to shave with. One of the best knives he owned. Her eyes sparkled, and he grinned.
At her next words, K'dri's eyes narrowed. He would love nothing more that to change the chain of the command, but before he could voice his own opinions on the matter, Nymari had changed the subject, damn her. "Afraid for my life?" He asked, smirking. "How touching. I didn't think you actually cared." And it's not chivalry I'd be dying for, but love. Of course, he didn't say that out loud.
When Nymari started to laugh, he laughed with her, blue eyes shining. She gave him a beautiful view of her body, and he took advantage of it before she sunk back into the water. Moving closer to her, he gently wrapped his arms around her. "He speaks the truth. Fight with us, for death, for honor. Change the chain of command, go to Trelis, live wild... Any of the above sound fine to me... as long as you're there with me." And with that, he kissed her gently, timidly, not trying to steal a kiss, but to get one in return.
After all, there was no reason she couldn't be both rider and woman.

It had never really been something she had planned to do, but Impressing one of the little firelizards had certainly had its uses. She hadn't really bothered to do much training with the critter, as she'd been rather swamped since attaining him. That said, he had a natural inclination to eat the critters in her tent and that was enough for her! She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.
There it was again, something he had never called her before but had now used twice; m'dear. It was oddly endearing, though Nym wasn't quite sure if she liked it or not. Oh how he was putting her mind in turmoil! Maybe it was because she was used to his rough-and-tumble attitude that this new one was having such an effect on her. Did she like it? Of course, but at the same time she didn't, something about a super soft killer just gave her a funny feeling. She gave him a look of utter disapproval as he joked about lives.
"Of course I care, old man! I'm not completely heartless you know." A briefly narrowed gaze showed how annoyed she was that he would even think he meant absolutely nothing to her. "Just because I don't throw myself at you like a lower caverns wench doesn't mean I don't like you, you know. Is that your type of girl, old man? The kind that throws herself at your feet because of a couple sweet words and stolen kisses?" She was mostly joking, still under the assumption that he did those things to mess with her more than out of real attraction. After all, she was almost half his age, troublesome, stubborn, difficult, what there was possibly attractive?
She tensed as he wrapped his arms around her, expecting him to steal another strong kiss as he tended to do. Her hands shot up to his chest, ready to push him away at a moment's notice. When the kiss he 'stole' was gentle, loving even, she didn't quite know how to respond, save for pressing into it the tiniest bit before her mind caught up. She didn't quite kiss him back, but she didn't pull away either. He was being so sweet, so kind, like a storybook prince, everything she had wanted as a child. What did she want now though? Better yet... what did he want? Was he acting kind and soft as a show of pity for her fears and woes, or was it something else? What had caused this sudden change of attitude?
The baby. He was being kind for the baby's sake wasn't he? With a frown, she finally pushed herself away from K'dri, not enough to break his hold on her, but just to put distance from those dangerous lips of his. "K'dri, I... I shouldn't have," She spoke quietly, looking away from him in the hopes that he somehow wouldn't see how red he was making her. She couldn't deny that he made her heart pound in her chest, couldn't deny that his kisses and words, both the gentle ones and the fierce, had an effect on her. She wasn't ready for that.
"I'll stay here, at the Rebellion." She finally continued, "I'm not leaving until I've knocked some Iyiath-hating skulls in." Impressing Iyiath had set her free of the Hold-bred expectations. Had she still been nothing more than a guard, she would have stayed with the father of her child regardless of her feelings, so as not to disgrace her family. Here though... here with Iyiath, she wouldn't be looked down upon for having a child outside of marriage.
"I don't want things to change, K'dri." Rather, she wanted as little to change as possible, especially because the pregnancy was not a sure thing, not until the healers told her she could no longer between for her own safety. She didn't want to become a loving wife to anybody yet, especially a man she still didn't truly know. Sure, she had known K'dri for months now, but it had taken months to truly see a softer side of him; what else was he hiding behind his tough guy act? No... As nice as the idea of having a functional family was, she wasn't ready to give up her hard-earned freedom, not yet. She reached up to cup his cheek, a subtle affection to her touch. She had been right, all those months ago, when she thought he might have a caring side underneath his mask.
"You really want this child... don't you?"

She gave him a look of such disapproval that he couldn't help but smile. At her gaze, however, he was mildly surprised. She actually did care about him. Maybe not as strongly as he felt about her, but either way... the thought was there. He blinked in surprise, blue eyes thoughtful.
"That has never been my 'type of girl,' Nymari," he murmured, shaking his head. The type of girl he went for was stubborn, was her own woman, independant and difficult. Someone that it took time to love, and someone that took time to love him back. He didn't just sleep with anyone, and she should know that by now.
When he moved to kiss her, she automatically went to push him back, so he was surprised when she actually kind of returned his kiss. Faranth, she must really be confused, if she was kissing him back! But then she pushed him away, and it was like the spell was broken.
"Fine. We stay. And we knock some skulls. If Noita and the rest of them aren't going to organize an attack... I will." His eyes flashed with a hidden anger, something deep down that was quite terrifying. It disappeared as quickly as it had surfaced, however, and he turned to Nymari.
He sighed. "You don't want things to change because you're afraid," he murmured. "I understand." I just wish you could love me the way I love you. At her next words, he winced, and turned away.
"Yes," he whispered, closing his eyes.

Attack… for some reason the very idea sent a shiver down her spine, a flash of excitement showing in her eyes as she looked up at him. She was used to being on the defensive, used to guarding her payers with her life. The very idea of being the attackers for once was, well, exhilarating, and it showed in every fiber of her being. She didn’t miss the flash of anger, though it had been so brief she almost thought she had imagined it. As he looked back her, Nymari made sure to meet his eyes questioningly. Had she been the cause of that anger, or was it something else?
“Have you ever been afraid?” The question was quiet as she moved to sit down. At least his strange shift in behavior was helping her relax about being near him, that was a bonus of sorts. At least she was no longer desperately trying to keep her distance. “For yourself I mean, for your own life?” He had spoken of protecting her, of worrying for her, but never before had he mentioned any fears he had for himself. She bit her lip as she frowned, awestruck by the emotion she felt when he whispered.
“He’ll have a father… if he keeps holding on the way he has been. I’m glad.” She wanted a boy. If she somehow didn’t lose it, she hoped whatever evil being had cursed her with a pregnancy would at least give her a boy… someone who wouldn’t have to go through what she went through as a child. It was her way of saying she wanted him involved with the kid.
